    Clash X Counter is back!

On the 16th April Clash X Counter will return for its second outing, hopefully we can build upon the success of last time and make this one bigger and better!

This CxC will be host to Super Street fighter 4, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2 and Marvel vs Capcom 3. As well as the main tournaments people are welcome and encouraged to run their own side tournaments, although we must stress for now that these have to remain strictly free.

    Facebook
    Google Maps

The timetable for CxC2 is as follows:-

    Doors open: 12 noon
    Super Street Fighter IV: 1pm
    Marvel vs Capcom 3: 3pm
    BlazBlue Continuum Shift 2: 5pm
    Close: 8pm

    Rules

    FORMAT

All tournaments will be decided by round-robin groups into double elimination brackets. Bracket sizes will be determined by the number of entrants, dividing into either top 8 or top 16. depending on the number of groups, the players placed in the top 2 of their group will qualify for the elimination stages.

Seeding will be determined through previous CxC results, player knowledge and local tournament results. If applicable, they will also be calculated using regional separation, though this cannot be guaranteed.

All matches will be decided best out of 3 games. For the grand final of each game, the player entering from the winner's bracket must win 2 full matches (best of 3) to win, while the player entering from the loser's bracket must win 3 full matches to win.

Button Binding is permitted, Macros and Turbos are banned. Anyone caught using them will be instantly disqualified from the tournament.

    TOURNAMENT RULES

    Super Street Fighter 4:-
    Time Limit: 99 secs
    Rounds: Best of 3
    Character Selection: Open

    BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2:-
    Time Limit: 99 secs
    Rounds: Best of 3
    Character Selection: Open
    No Unlimited Characters

    Marvel vs Capcom 3:-
    Time Limit: 99 secs
    Rounds: Best of 3
    Character Selection: Open

    Prizes

The tournament fee for each game will be pooled together and divided toward prize vouchers for each game. The vouchers will be purchased to the value of 60% / 30% / 10% for 1st/2nd/3rd places respectively. Where possible these vouchers will be for a store of the person's choosing (Please note: Prize support is currently TBC)

    Setups

For active tournament games, there will be a minimum of 2 setups per game. At all other times there will be at least 1 setup of every tournament game. Any unused/casual setup can be used for any of the Fighting games available. We have a wide selection of games and if there are any you wish to play feel free to ask a member of staff to switch a game out for you. If you wish to bring your own game(s) you are welcome to, but we cannot take responsibility if any items go missing, so please keep a close eye on any games brought. We are here to help and will try our best to accommodate any requests.

    Staff Entering Tournaments

Staff members are permitted to enter tournaments under the condition they are not allowed to participate in the seeding or arrangement of groups/brackets. This is to ensure equality and that the member does not place themselves in a favourable group. Staff are allowed to assist in the administration of brackets once they are eliminated from that game and can assist in the administration of groups once their group results have been confirmed. Staff members are still required to pay entry fee for any game they enter

I should be able to come to this and be able to provide the whole recording set up.

However, not a chance of me hanging round til 8, I will prob pack up after MvC3.

Since it had very few players last time around it's the game that needed to be dropped from the tournament lineup to make room for something else, sadly.

Perhaps I'm being an idiot here but is there a lack of an edit button or am I just missing it? Want to update the OP.

EDIT: Well, I can edit this post but not any other posts. :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 567 ✭✭✭Vyze

I think after a day or something the edit button disappears from a post.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 25,872 Mod ✭✭✭✭Doctor DooM

Just PM me with what you want the OP changed to (including any formatting if necessary) and I can still change it.

Recording equipment and possibly commentary would be great but only bring what you feel you can bring. If you want to get a taxi from the station to Queen's SU to save you carrying it all we'll reimburse you for it.

That's mighty kind of you. Bringing the whole kit and kaboodle is not a problem.

One thing I'd point out is that promotion wise, videos with commentary get a million times more interest than those without. It's pretty glaring when looking at the stats.

Going to try to sort out money and if I can I'll be up. One thing I wanted to check was xbox/ps?

    SSF4, MvC3 - Xbox
    BBCS - PS

Hey guys- I just realised I only have one VGA converter. If you're planning for me to project the fights I'll need the players to play on a component capable TV.

I think that's fine but just letting you know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 217 ✭✭Neeknak

Money issues mean I won't be able to attend this but I'm aiming to hit up the next Inferno aswell as q-con the month afterwards. Good luck to everyone who's attending

Yeah man, I'm pretty sure the TV in that corner from last time is pretty much compatible with most inputs.

Also Yreval is correct, MvC3 and SSF4 will be run on 360, BBCS on PS3.

I have a thing for characters whos taunt lasts longer than zangiefs walk from one end of the screen to the other.
Fair play to Dwyer? was that it? whoever he was he sure knew his phoenix combos.
Makes me actually want to learn magneto or something :pac:

EDIT: Can't wait to hear the commentary on how **** i am

GGs everyone, a few organisational slipups imo (SSF4 bracket was screwed up, and I didn't get to play through the Marvel bracket unfortunately - think that one was partly due to all the commentary and recording stuff etc. though).

IMO you guys shouldn't be running tiny groups that have the strong possibility of drawing over and over again, especially when there are less than 16 people in the tournament in the first place - a top 16 bracket with byes would've taken far less time to run and meant all the tournaments would be done a lot quicker.

Anyway was a fun event, always good to go up to Belfast and play with you guys.

You have a few good points there, but I have to say in my defence I checked the SSF4 brackets a few times and I did mess up the order of where the losers of the winner's semis get placed but otherwise (despite some complaints) the initial bracket was properly laid out. I take the blame there for the semi-final placements. but at least it was easily rectifiable.

As for the groups, I'll definitely take that on board for next time, playoffs are a pain in the arse for everyone involved and eats time.

Here's how my MvC3 group went; Doom beat me, Scavenger XIII beats Doom, I beat Scavenger XIII. We repeat the group, and the same result occurs. Then we decide to do a random draw, the winner of which goes through automatically. The other two play each other to advance. Doom wins the draw, so I play Scavenger XIII for the other place. Having beaten him twice before today, of course I lose to him in the deciding match.

    That said, GGs everyone.

BB went that way due to only having 8 sign-ups. We've had other people claiming that running a group of 16 players into a 16 person double elimination is a better format because the groups are used entirely for seeding. Others claiming that single elimination the whole way through would be better than the "extra life" rule used in the finals.

No matter what format is used, someone is going to wish it was run another way. We'll definitely be looking into some way to get past constant 3-way ties in the group stages, though.

Part of the reason for running groups, though, is so that people at least get a few matches for their money even if they get knocked out early.

There's plenty of data available from tournaments all over Ireland for seeding - I get the giving people people their money's worth thing though, I've run groups in tournaments before for that reason. IMO though it's better to run larger groups than a larger number of smaller groups in that case.

Just to reiterate, it's not that big a gripe, and again I enjoyed the event a lot.

Wanted to thank all involved in yesterdays sodium flavoured hype-fest. GGS to Blag, Dreddy, Yreval and Bourke.

Cog - congrats. A victory well earned. Down to losers like a mere mortal but machined it back to the top.

    Commentary was hilarious at times.
