Can you be a little more specific?

The legalities of moderatos were set out in the CJ(MP)A2009. The law has not changed since. There could be issues with individuals and their respective districts, but thats a local issus and not a "lawful" one.

    In summary:

They are classed as a firearm.
    They are unrestricted.
You must have authorisation to own, possess and use one.
If applied for with a license they are included in the €80.
If applied for after the license is recieved then its another €80 to get one.
As its classed as a firearm in its own right good reason must be given to get one.
The authorisation comes in the form of a "S" in the bottom left corner of the license.
You must have authorisation also to sell a moderator and the person you are selling one to must have authorisation to have one.

Anything else you want to know other than that, or if i've left anything out just ask.

Thing is that does not hold true for every person in every district, so its of little relevance/help to the OP. Best to give the "lawful" stance on things and anything other than that is gravy.

That somes up alot of my questions alright;)

I do alot of my shooting on my dads land, he has alot of horses on the land most of the year, he also has sheep. He asked me lately to get rid of some foxes that have been hanging around, took 1 weak lamb already:mad:. Iv only the shotgun for now, but got a mate with a hornet to help me out, Only thing is the horses went nuts when we fired the first shot.

Would the likes of this be reason enough to warent a mod when i apply for my licence??

I know. You have said that a few times.

    Gravy.........

A few guys I know got theirs for free too

Where does it say in black and white that an authorization for a mod on a firearm licensed costs €80?

The Authorization only lasts as long as the Rifle licence so it is included in the price of Rifle Licence fee.

The "S" is marked on the Licence, not separate to it in all these cases.

If you change a .22/.223/.243 etc for another rifle of same calibre you have to amend the permit.
It's the same effort to amend an "S" on to the Licence.

It seems to depend on the super, some grant them no bothers once you have a just reason for it others though dont like to issue them. I heard of one super refusing to grant moderators on the basis that they didnt work:eek::confused:

The need for a moderator around livestock (imo) is just cause for requiring one and many people have them for just that reason

That is SOP on how to apply for a mod. Tick the box on the FCA1 and you will either get it or not.

I had a cover letter as my authorisation. There was no common policy surrounding what form the authorisation for a mod took prior to July 2009.
A few guys I know got theirs for free too

Good for them, but can you say that everyone is entitled to a free mod?
Where does it say in black and white that an authorization for a mod on a firearm licensed costs €80?

Under section 1 of the firearms act 1925, as amended by section 26 of the 2006 act, and further defined by SI 21/2008 defines a moderator (silencer) as a firearm. Under the Commissioners guidelines, any application for a moderator not applied for with the rifle, must be applied for again with a new FCA1, with a fee of another €80.
The Authorization only lasts as long as the Rifle licence so it is included in the price of Rifle Licence fee.

If applied for with the rifle. If not "legally" you must apply again and pay the €80. If you get this done for free, then bully for you, but to advise someone that it costs nothing is incorrect as they may be made do it the legit way.
The "S" is marked on the Licence, not separate to it in all these cases.

Whats your point? I already said that.

    No its not.

The FCA2 is used to amend or cancel a license. As the moderator is classed as a firearm you cannot amend a license by (technically) adding another firearm to a license. If this was done for you then great, but it was done in error and should not and cannot be done as so.

I guess they believe i should have a licence for a moderator which i have with the special `letter on my licence

    I don't get what you're saying.

You must have authorisation/license for a moderator. Anyone that has a moderator needs to have the "S" in the bottom left corner of their license. If you do not this, then you are not licensed.
