I've always thought modern sticks were seriously lacking in Ostrich Leather, glad to see someone fixed that.

Dave if you live in Dublin and can drive, send me a private message, I'm trying to find someone to take over the job I'm leaving.

Thread derail on the very first reply (which inexplicably includes a full quote of the OP), good stuff.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,206 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

    Cheers guys.
Got through to the second round.
Interview tip:If they say that they think you might get bored as you will be doing less and you are over qualified just reply:
No not at all this means I can be more focused LIKE A LAZER BEAM

    honest words from my mouth:pac:
They were also impressed by my links and Kara throws

    No job for you Dave.

The dole, drinking Lidl beer and upgrading the arcade cabinet are your main priorities.

The arcade cabinet is nearly finished after much pain.
Will update soon.Just need to get my hands on ostrich leather

As resident master of sticks*, I must say I find this Hoon stick distasteful.

The joystick isn't square-and-center on the plate, that stupid "Hoon" logo is actually raised, it's all-Sanwa in white (i.e. crap stick, BORING colour), and there's no separate Home button.

And that ostrich leather just looks fugly.

I'd much rather get this & mod it:

*yes I'm on pad for now...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,206 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Agreed it does look shocking.Thats the point. It's like a stick Ron Burgundy would own if he played SF.
What do you mean stick isn't squared and centered. It looks like its in the exact same place as a TE relative to the buttons

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,703 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

The stick & buttons are too far over to the left.

If you look at the lovely AH3 V3 up there, you'll see that the stick and the 3P button are equidistant from the edges.

However, the Hooh atrocity* is using a ratio of 1:2, thus unbalancing it (you'd have a lot of overhang to your right as you're playing).

To see it done right at that size, look at the Hori VLX:
    hori-vlx.jpg

Or this monster being made for Jeff Schaeffer (no.2 US SF2WW player) by RoninWarrior:
    JeffSchaeferstemplatecopy-2.jpg

it's a pun on AstroCity lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,206 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Ahh I see. Does the TE not have the same distance from stick to left edge though.
Not to derail the thread:)but have you ever tried Sanwa jlw's Kikki (or anyone.) I've ordered them for my cab and im interested to see how they compare to JLF's

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,703 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

I'd say the JLW is closer to Seimitsu sticks than JLF -- medium-to-heavy spring & levered microswitches.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,206 ✭✭✭✭DARK-KNIGHT

hey i have a TE stick but am on the lookout for a new stick..

what would you guys recommend and wheres best place to get them?

remember paying 180 euro for my TE FFS they like to charge that amazon croud

    oh im on xbox 360

    If you fancy something different:
    • Hori RAP EX (Hori snap-in buttons, not perfect but workable)
    • Qanba Q4 -- I'm not sure when it's coming out (and how you can buy it), but it's a neat stick design, PS3/360, full Sanwa, for $160. They have a Q3 model for 360 as well.
    • Hori VX-SA -- Full Sanwa. Has the advantage of being the lightest stick here (2.2kg), so overseas shipping would be a bit lower.

Now the bad news: I have no idea where to buy the latter 2 for cheap :(

    An wireless options??

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,703 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

The Tekken bundle stick is the only one that comes to mind.

Wireless sticks lag slightly and are illegal in tournaments.

While you mightn't be too pushed about tournaments, it means if a stick's good, it'll be wired.

    WHERE?

    It really isn't crazy money.
    • Joystick: 20 euro
    • Buttons: 20-24 euro
    • PCB: 25-50 euro
    • Wood: 10 euro (MDF) to 40+ (exotic woods)
    • Paint: 10-30+ euro (depending on complexity)

Now figure in the cost of heavy machinery (router, saws, etc), bits (router bits are not cheap!), and then realise that each of these custom sticks takes about 10+hrs to make, and then a few DAYS to paint...

Stick makers would really be making more money in an office job.

Yeah, if I was getting a custom stick at some point I'd definitely pony up for a B15. It's expensive but they are the nicest sticks I've seen.
