A few ISPs use Fixed WiMax
There was a Mobile WiMax Trial on 2.3GHz around Maynooth. The frequency is lower than Imagine's so it worked not to bad.

Another company tried Mobile WiMax (like Imagine has) on 3.6GHz, like Imagine is using, and concluded that the band was unsuitable. They do still use Fixed WiMax though.

The Particular service is "Imagine WiMax", company is Imagine. It uses "mobile WiMax" with Mobile and Nomadic modems on an unsuitable band, 3.6GHz, which is only suitable for External roof top aerials.

"WiMax" is the Brand for a family of technologies, some of which work well. The System Imagine are marketing will never work well unless they rip out EVERY dongle and indoor system and SOLELY fit external aerials and do NOT exceed sensible number of installs per mast sector. But they will not.

When proper Broadband is more available in Ireland the "Imagine WiMax" service will close as it can't compete with Nationally available better at Mobile, 3G/HSPA.
