Is anyone else having problems with Imagines wimax. I signed up 9 days ago and since i got my box last thursday i've had nothing but problems. It wont log onto sites saying the server can't find them. On my iphone when its logged to the house wifi I cant use the tunein radio app cus it is constantly buffereing. I phoned this morning to cancel and was told I would may have to pay €100 cancelation fee. This is after calls to their awful helpdest to try to get it sorted nearly every day!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

:-) You will get use to it. The first 2-3 weeks is a big learning curve. We are suffering under this "bitless" world what they provide, or better to say, not provide...

I went trough same story. You cannot cancel just if you pay lots of money. Better if you try to put your modem, where you get stronger signal, with 4 bar in modem. Stick on window.

Customer service will be very kind, but they never will solve your problem. If you have 4 bar strength coverage, but you cannot browsing on internet, than try to reset the modem. With a small pin, push the rest button for 15 seconds. The modem update itself, need restart twice, and set up your wifi details. (Default is "motorola", but it is open wifi network)

I have had problems since June last year (see consumer section at www.unitedpeople.ie). Right now my internet is down again. Posting via phone. Imagine Wimax service in Drogheda is disgusting. Things are that bad that I will be suing them in small claims court on the ground that they since installation, have not even provided a basic level of consistent minimum service. Time now 9.41 and net still down since eight this morning.

Good luck with that. Since June last year, I have rang Imagine Wimax over 45 times now to try sort out individual problems. 8 Months on and still the same quality of service. DIRE or non-existent!

I have 2 bars on modem and with 3MB paid I can see 4MB on speedometers (and download files with 400 kB/s). Do not need anything more (more bars on modem). I live D6

There is supposed to have been an upgrade to their system which is supposed to bring it up to 10 - that is when there is not so many users trying to connect to one of the two masts around the town (one at ESB station mast and other at Eircom mast).

In theory your supposed to have it as high as possible, as close to a window as possible (or even in the attic as a friend does) and/or facing one particular direction.

In reality all the above might not be possible sometimes. What your left with is something I can say, I have experienced myself a lotta, lotta time previously.

Just to update you all. I'm now with UPC. Got it installed today. All good so far.

I had the mother of all problems trying to get away from Imagine. After getting in touch with Comreg and submitting a formal complaint against Imagine, this wasn't enough to get them into gear I had to threaten legal action and making things very public via the Joe show and Conor Pope. I finally got away from them as a result of being a complete pain in the ass to them. I will never go near Imagine again. A word of warning to all

I'm at the end of my contract and it was after the 6th month I gave up on ringing them and just decided to see out the contract. I cant understand with all the bad reports why people touch them. They throttle torrents which is a pain in the left one. They charge 4 euro for internet security!!! Cheeky sods.

STAY AWAY STAY AWAY STAY AWAY

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 544 ✭✭✭Cerocco

Well got my final bill, it seems Imagine think it is ok to charge me for a full month line rental, wimax usage when i left them on the 3rd. Looked at my internet banking and they have taken an extra €50 more than what was the balance on the bill. I'm telling you my stress levels cuz of this company are through the roof. I can't afford a €178 bill. Jusus, all i can say is to anyone looking to move to Imagine STAY AWAY :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

As I was saying the minimum 12 month contract is up for me in a few days. I'll be keep a close eye on my account to make sure they do not debit again. I'm pretty sure that they will try it though.

    STAY AWAY.

Most people I have talked to say that it's no better than 3g solutions and I'd agree.

    Twice the cost.

If I was you I would cancel your direct debt immediately after your contract finishes. Was in touch with them today. They gave me no explanation for the extra €50 taken out of my account and when their finance girl promised me she would phone back after 'looking into the problem cuz she couldn't see my bill on her computer, convenient' I heard nothing back. I'm strongly considering just calling into their offices and demanding an explanation face to face. Sent an e-mail tonight so i'm waiting for the call tomorrow. To be honest i'm at the stage with this crowd that I want to make my issues with them very public and goin on the Joe Show. I have been treated so badly by them !!!!! its exasperating:mad:

My speed once again has dropped below one meg'. See here: http://unitedpeople.ie/buyer.html.
I intent to take them to the Irish small claims court and request a judge that 50% of my payments to them be at least repaid to me (I have phone and net service with them - problems with both constantly) and order that I am not penalised for leaving their business before end of contract.
    The reason or grounds?

A person when they sign up to a service should expect at least an minimum average amount of DECENT service from their service provider. So far Wimax with this user has failed UTTERLY and I can prove it, to live up to their end of a deal which is advertised daily as something completely different than what one is actually getting!

I can't cancel my direct debit as there debiting my laser card. i will be keeping a close eye on my statements for the next couple of months as I wouldn't put anything by this lot.

I have never heard anyone have a good thing to say about Imagine. I made the huge mistake of joining this Laurel and Hardy set up a few months ago. The only options for me in my street were these or Eircom. Having only recently moved to Ireland from the UK I asked peoples advice and read reviews for both. Both companies seem to get just as back reviews from people, and relatives said to avoid Eircom so I went with Wimax. OMFG what a mistake to make. I can download things ok during the night, I never try any other time as using connection. But the latency for gaming is terrible. I play on a UK server which belongs to a gaming group I am a member of. My ping to the COD Black Ops server will be 160-250 constantly, and I regularly get kicked from servers due to it. Only after around 12 midnight when most people are in bed can I start to get a decent game as the ping drops late at night.
Before we moved here we had 50mb with Virgin :( ping would never be above 50ms, no matter what time of day. People down the road from us get UPC, but our estate doesn't. Please, please, please UPC, let us have it too. I'll dig the holes myself, PLEASE. Or even better Magnet, with their 50mb fibre :)

...Well I am now at the present time getting one fourteenth speed of what I'm foolishly paying for.
0.41mb/s - Thats Imagine Wimax for you.

Got an interesting email from an ex-Wimax worker. For a number of reasons including possible legal ones, I won't post it here but you will find it on the home page of my site at the bottom right.

Hey Biggins, just looked at your page, shocking stuff. My update is Imagine called me today to inform me that they were going to credit my account with €152.50 on Friday. I'll not hold my breath. If I was you with all of the problems you have been having and not getting any joy I would defo go to the Joe show and Connor Pope about it. Have you gone down the comreg route?

I've tried many possible routes except for dragging their ass in to court.
This week as of the first of March, I'm gonna contact every media station and news outlet possible.
They want publicity - they are going to get fcuking publicity if I can help it!

Here is my speed as of the 1st of March.

Once again I'm getting under one fourteenth of the 7 meg service I'm paying for!
...And this has been like this for near a week.

You will have to go all the way with your threat as I had said all of this to them. Imagine are not targeting becoming a big long term player in the market. They are simply looking to make a quick buck me thinks. My contract has expired and I have sent them at least 4 mails to instructing them to get there equipment off my property and not to charge me for the use of their services again. I'll be keeping a close watch on my account.

    STAY AWAY FROM IMAGINE.

Reading that, if I have read it right, they are laying off staff?
If true (and not just an excuse), the disgusting, rotten, dire slow current service is only going to get even much worse!

Tell everyone you know to say away from Wimax!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 109 ✭✭pretentiouslad

Biggins, you say that Wimax is so terrible in multiple threads, but on your website you admit to have downloaded around 70 gigs in under a month, how is this possible with such a poor service?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

    The service is not consistent.

Some will get very poor and some excellent speed.

THEY say I've downloaded that as an excuse at one stage for the drop in speed
(A chance would be a fine thing)
I DID NOT SAY I DOWNLOADED THAT MUCH.
    These are my exact words:
Been in formed that I'm supposedly downloading over 70 gig a month - and as such they say now maybe this is why my speed is slow!
Show me where I have actually said I have downloaded 70 gig - or admitted to such a lie from them!

They have used many, MANY excuses in this regard.

I have never - let me say that again - NEVER!!!! downloaded that much, not even half that!
Its just one excuse they have tried to used - one of many from a bunch of miserable, lying b'stards!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 109 ✭✭pretentiouslad

oh, my mistake... so what you're saying is that they're lying to you? Did you ask how much your usage was and they said 70gigs? Not to be rude, but do you think that there might be a tinge of paranoia going on here? Why would they lie to you, i doubt customer care people really care what you're downloading or if you want to go elsewhere for business?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 34,567 ✭✭✭✭Biggins

I did ask and they said in that one episode (of very many), I was downloading according to the amount they stated.
Now in all honestly - and think about this keeping in mind the LONG list of recorded dire speeds I have - how in hell would I alone, be able to download that much when my speed is that desperate or at many, many times, non-existent!
At the speed they are giving me consistently, 70 gig to download for me would take all year if not longer - never mind in a month!

Why would they lie to me? Because they don't want to admit they cannot follow-up on what they are actually advertising or can't follow-up in good quality of support service.
This has been confirmed to me by one of their staff alone quietly and another ex-staff member who's email I have posted on my site.

As soon as my contract runs out with them - I'll be dumping them (two month approx) like the rotten piece of schite that they are

Just left Imagine for a new service provider and like many others here, they have tried to rip me off one last time.

They recharged me last months bill amount which was already paid and then had the check to charge a reconnection fee when I had already been ported to my new provider.

All in all they charged over 64 euro when my actual bill should have been 17 euro. Thankfully my DD had been cancelled and they can now wait a month or two for there last 17 euro.

Why would someone from Imagine call their company WiMax, when WiMax is the radio technology, and not the name of any company.
Not questioning your problems in any way, just the quoted section on your site seems odd. Do Imagine employees actually believe their company is called WiMax?

To be frank, I don't know what the hell is going on with them - but on my site I name the two titles together so that there is no confusion in case of any other similar services out there.

A few ISPs use Fixed WiMax
There was a Mobile WiMax Trial on 2.3GHz around Maynooth. The frequency is lower than Imagine's so it worked not to bad.

Another company tried Mobile WiMax (like Imagine has) on 3.6GHz, like Imagine is using, and concluded that the band was unsuitable. They do still use Fixed WiMax though.

The Particular service is "Imagine WiMax", company is Imagine. It uses "mobile WiMax" with Mobile and Nomadic modems on an unsuitable band, 3.6GHz, which is only suitable for External roof top aerials.

"WiMax" is the Brand for a family of technologies, some of which work well. The System Imagine are marketing will never work well unless they rip out EVERY dongle and indoor system and SOLELY fit external aerials and do NOT exceed sensible number of installs per mast sector. But they will not.

When proper Broadband is more available in Ireland the "Imagine WiMax" service will close as it can't compete with Nationally available better at Mobile, 3G/HSPA.
