I'd say Demons Souls, for the same reason as above. I played it when it just came out, and by christ it was tough at first. I'd heard it was going to be hard, but wasn't quite ready for it to be that hard. Like Dark Souls though, once you knew the mechanics of the game, it got a lot easier.

Overall, i'd say Demons Souls was definitely the tougher of the two.

Played roughly an hour of Demon Souls, that was a learning curve! You come into the game thinking "Pfft, shields"..... that doesnt last long.

Any news on ds2 coming out on the ps4
    after shui yoshida, s statement

What was the statement? I'm VERY curious about this, I had pretty much decided on getting a ps4 for next generation over the xbox1(80). However no Dark Souls 2 would be a deal breaker on the PS4 for me.

Out of interest to people who've played Demon's and Dark Souls, which is harder?

As a melee build Demons is far harder. Magic is OP in Demons. The hardest bosses in Demons are also tougher than the ones in Dark imo. The False King is far trickier than Gwyn but I suppose it's all subjective, some people find Gwyn a nightmare.

After Ornstein and Smough the bosses get a bit easier imo in Dark Souls, I killed Seath pretty easily on my 2nd attempt once I realised how to stop his health regenerating.

I've never played an RPG as a mage before. Might be a good time to start.

Pick the Royal class. You should be able to mix it up a bit and you start with a spell and regenerating MP.

I'd have to go with Demon's Souls being harder as I played that one first. Also I'd agree about some of the bosses being harder. Flamelurker(without cheesing him) and Maneaters spring to mind.

Anyone who liked the Gargoyles fight in Dark will just love the Maneaters. ;)

EDIT: Saying all that, I loaded it up last night and breezed through the first area no problem so it shouldn't be too difficult for someone half decent at Dark Souls. Seems a bit easier to land parries too.

    Maneaters on NG+ were horrible.

We sat again for an hour and a half discussing maps and figures and always getting back to that most damnable creation of the perverted ingenuity of man - the County of Tyrone.

Ive bought the game 4 times and it took.me 3 hours to get past the Taurus demon I just couldnt get good at it
my mate loves it and has over 400hours he has bought it on xbox360 pc and ps3 just to 100% the game

is it weird that I constantly look at people doing speed runs on twitch and im just blown away by how calm and collected dark soul gamers are , im actually addicted to watching them and im a pussy to even try the game again

me mate said to buy it and hell co.op with me to help but isnt it more of a single player experience .
anyway loads of respect to the dark souls gamers for someone that doesn't play it I understand your addiction

I was the same, it's really intimidating for new players even seeing 2-3 hollows is an "ah crap" moment at the beginning. When you're near the end and fighting three Taurus demons in the one area and just wading through them it's all worth it though :D In the later levels you're actually looking for bigger enemies purely for the souls, it's not worth your time fighting smaller ones unless they're in your way. Like black knights, ran like a girl at the first one, you'll be taking them out in one hit later on and complaining you only got 1000 souls off them :pac:

The learning curve is steep but in the later levels it gets much easier as you know what to do, rushing and panicking are your worst enemies in DS. It's also a game where getting right in a bosses' face or under it is usually the safest place, not standing miles away from it.

Don't be put off by co-op, it's one of the main features of both games so should be embraced and would be even better playing with someone you know. Just make sure that he helps you without just beating everything for you if you know what I mean. Then as you improve you can tackle the bosses on your own.

What gear do people usually run? I have the following:

    Thief mask
    Crimson robe
    Crimson gloves
    Painted guardian waistcloth

    Zweihander +12
    Blood shield +4

    Cloranthy ring
    Slumbering ring (no sound)

That's my default setup, change it around for tanking up or needing a spear type weapon for confined spaces, and I look kinda badass.

Current build is Solaire so I've got his stuff. Before that my Mage had,
Logan's top, crown of dusk and xanthous bottom

Balder Side Sword/Moonlight Greatsword, Logan's catalyst/Silver Knight Shield (Most fully upgraded)

Dragoncrest rings or Havels and serpent rings

Crystal magic spells and weapon buff

Love this build, she's a glass cannon capable of huge burst damage or high DPS and dying to a gentle breeze.

Finished it, beat Gwyn on my first attempt lol I shoulda let him kill me and spent more time levelling up, in NG+ now, gonna leave it a while before I play it again though, might play something easy for a while :pac:

Did you have Solaire helping you?

I went straight into NG+ after I finished it, mainly because I was annoyed I wasn't able to save him in my first play through.

No, I dunno what happened him,did it hollow. Haven't seen Siegmeyer either since his left and I met his daugher, I shouldn't have went down there so soon.

You'd never figure out their quest lines fully without using the wikis anyway. Worth doing when you tackle NG+

Congrats, throw up your stats and soul level there. I'd like to see what a somewhat blind first playthrough ended up with.

As a gaming experience that was something else, equal parts thrilling, frustrating and punishing but hugely rewarding as well. From the opening areas where you're all cautious steps and trying to figure out the combat to the epic boss battles later it's never unchallenging and constantly has new surprises for you when you think you have everything sussed.

Favourite area for me? probably Anor Londo, looked lovely, challenging enemies and the best boss fight in the game for me. Worst? goddman Blighttown, nearly made me want to stop playing. Fave weapon was the Zweihander without a doubt, dat heavy attack..

Most annoying boss, the bloody demon in Undead Asylum revisited, just couldn't get the technique down and kept dying, Sif after that.

Best music, either Ornstein and Smough's theme or the Firelink melody, which was relieving but morose as well, which suits the Dark Souls world perfectly, you're safe (well kinda) but utterly alone and everything wants to kill you.

There ya go, this place was a big help and the wiki was a godsend for some of the explanations of the stats and that, wish I'd read it before jumping in and assuming vitality and strenght would be more important than they were. It's like the 1st playthrough is just a practice run really. You leanr so much along the way it'd be impossible to figure out completely blind. I know I missed a rake of side missions and character stuff though.

Definitely, knowing how the routes link together, the shortcuts and that will be way more fun getting around. My build was a bit all over the place there too

I love this, it is really not suited to a zweihander build but you persevered to the end anyway.:D 15 endurance when I can barely function without 30 ha. Congrats again dude, definitely have a look for a specialised build so you can see the difference on another play. :)

I usually have the Cloranthy ring or grass crest shield to recharge my stamina quickly, kept my armour light and dodged as much as I could. It is fun tanking up and just wading into things with iron flesh or power within though. Should spent more time human and gotten into more pvp scrapes but ah well, more reason to play it again. Are the enemies much tougher on NG+? or do they just do more damage? or both lol it being Dark Souls it's probably both

Endurance that low is rare all right.

I finished the game the first time at SL76 and felt overpowered. Did it the second time (different character) at 52 I think and only leveled that high for co-op. First had INT of 45+ and second had STR of 30+.

I have probably 300+ hours on DkS and I have never found this ring D:

Ordered this on Amazon, picked the Prepare To Die edition (that doesn't sound ominous at all....) over the Limited Edition.

Been watching a few video reviews and can't wait to get stuck into it.
