Hi all, I am applying for a .223 and moderator. I read a trend a while back where there were reasons given as to why a shooter needed a moderator. And I must say I was impressed.

Would ye mind refreshing my mind please.

    Many thanks

Bit curious ................ if you need a moderator, you should already know why you need it ?

Or do you just want help with the wording of a letter ?

Beware, some Supers are refusing to issue them, on any grounds :(

Here's a few reasons for use

    1. Health and safety - To prevent hearing damage to me and others.
To be aware of what and who is around me when hunting in the “field” and to be able to hear people giving me instructions and warnings.
Hearing protection is not an option under these conditions.

    2. Improved accuracy of bullet placement on animals and thereby given a humane kill.
This is one proven enhancement of using a sound suppressor.

    3. Public safety and peace. To reduce the noise pollution to the public and wildlife in the area if they are within hearing distance of shots being fired as I have shooting permission on lands where this possibly could happen.
On occasion the night shooting of vermin is needed the use of a sound suppressor will reduce the noise pollution to the public and wildlife.

    4. I have permission to shoot on lands for the control of vermin where livestock and horses are kept and at the time of nearing giving birth the sounds of a non sound suppressed firearm being fired will startle and frighten the livestock horses and other animals in the area which could result in loss and death of unborn animals.
The sounds of shooting will stampede the horses that could result in severe injury to myself or the horses a sound suppressor is required on these occasions.

i was reading that letter, and aren't you supposed to give the make, model and serial no. of the suppressor you intend to use?

    What letter?

You tick the box on the FCA1 for "Silencer" then give the details of why you require it on a seperate piece of paper.
Forum Charter - Useful Information - Photo thread: Hardware - Ranges by County - Hunting Laws/Important threads - Upcoming Events - RFDs by County

If you see a problem post use the report post function. Click on the three dots on the post, select "FLAG" & let a Moderator deal with it.

Ive yet to see any moderator that has any serial no., at most a FO might ask you to inform them of what moderator you have bought after been granted it on your license

I know of lads that had to "stamp" serial numbers onto moderators
