Any recommendations for a gun shop/supplier with a range of 6.5*55 ammo. I am looking to change from RWS to something like Norma and want to try a few cartridges. Thanks.

the norma 120 btips are by far the best factory ammo i have used. used it on sika/hybreds, john lambert had some in stock last time i was there.

+1 on the Norma. Used to shoot the 120 and 140 gr in 6.5x55. The Lapua Natraulis are also a great round but they carry a hefty price tag, in the rgion of €50 per 20.

Other good makes would be Fusion/Federal.

    Norma 120gr BT's. Great round
I sold my 6.5x55 last year so I don't look out for the ammo anymore. But I used to get it from Paul Halloran in drangon co tip.
You will not look back if you use these for hunting. They are just deadly.

Field and Stream in Moy stock Norma 6.5x55 Oryx and Vulkan 156gr.

Tremendous expansion and weight retention. I still have a few boxes and would be willing to sell you one.

Afraid its not cheap ammo though,in the RWS league

I saw 140gr Nosler Partitions in McCarthy's in Prosperous. Think they were about €40 a box. Should be a good round.

Interesting read, can't remember all the details.

depends on the rifle , have had two swedish mausers both prefered different ammo, bullet weights ect , the only way to be sure is to try a few boxes
at that money you cant go wrong

I tried a box of them in my Steyr pro-hunter, couldnt get much less than 1.5" at 100 yds !! Never tried them on deer tbh, federal fusions at €35 do the job for me.

Was up in Tannyoky guns while back, think he could do the 120gr Normas for bout €33

both federal and privi 139g soft point,s are giving me an inch at 100meters in a M38 swedish mauser . never tried the remington or the fusion .but thats off a rest on a bench , hunting is different your not firing five round groups and you seldom get more than one shot , dead is dead you cant achieve much beyond that

The 120gr norma (nosler partition ) are quiet expensive but are very good , I got the chance to crono them on a 627mm long barrel and found them just to be 21fps down on factory speeds which is quiet impressive . When you take the fact that i tried hornady .223s 75gr bthp M on a 609mm barrel and they where 160 fps down off advertised speed .

to be honest i dont bother much with the crono even though i have one , if it falls down dead when i shoot it i am happy and if the cheap ammo will do as good a job hunting at a third of the price all the better , as it means i can shoot three times as much or keep some money for new toys ,the privi kills as well as anything out there if i do my part and shoot straight

I just like to know the actual speed of my round so i can work out a drop chart , But at 2.25 euro a deer i do not mind ,If i drop one or two deer in a day i find it cheap stalking .( not being smart but 2.25 - 4.50 is a cheap day out) For foxing i use my .223 at 30 a box, so works out at 1.50 a fox give or take a miss still a cheap night out;)

good stuff , i try to zero so i can put a round into a four inch circle from fifty to say two hundred and that suits me and my style
thinking of trying your way on the 30-06 though as it has alot more range or i might go with a fixed 10x scope with a mil dot reticule and work out which dot for each range in incriments of 50 meters

How do you find the noslers on paper stickshooter? I was on the range the weekend and best grouping I could get was a touch under an inch ,, nothing wrong with that but the cheaper federals I got a 5 shot half inch grouping all touching.. This was from a sled rest lads I'm not that good;) just found it very interesting the normas are twice the price and the finish quality looks alot better.. Not to mention the tear in my eye every time I pulled the trigger££££:(

I found the 120gr noslers very consistent ,The furthest distance i have tried them on paper was 400 yards , and they have no problem grouping 2" five shot groups . What i found with a lot of US 6.5 x 55 rounds they were down on speeds . Weather they are down on pressure because they use a lot of old military rifles and worried about case pressures .

its because of the old rifles the 93 swedish and norwegian krag were not that strong, the 96 swedish mauser is considerably stronger than what the 6.5x55 was designed for and the case is as strong as most modern cases .. speer number 14 manual gives seperate data for the older weaker actions and the more modern actions 96 mauser and modern sporting rifles check out this http://www.gunsandammo.com/content/65x55-swede?page=1 ..... if reloading were legal you could do alot with the 6.5x55

I did note there was a 6 inch poi difference in hight between the 130 Feds and 120 nostlers so it must be a flatter shooting round for the longer shots alright..
