Advice on this sat tuner card?

    Hi folks,
I don't normally post in this area but I would greatly appreciate some advice regarding a dual tuner sat/DVB/Analogue card that has been recommended to me by my brother in law (http://shop.blackgold.tv/epages/BT3159.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/BT3159/Products/BGT3595)
He has a slick media centre setup with free to air, free sat and UPC all running nicely in tandem.

I'm a bit out of touch with the latest technologies, but I want to make sure this card is Mpeg4 compatible ( is that the correct standard for FTA channels that will be available in Ireland?)

I want to ditch Sky ( I can use the inlaws online Sky to get the sky player channels as well as the usual sources of my fav tv shows)

Will the card I linked above be future proof? Are there any future proof alternatives that could be suggested? HD is a must too.

I have a quad LNB on my sky dish, UPC piped to the back of my HTPC and working really well with the 17 channels ( I can't tune in discovery and C4 if that's normal or not I'm not sure)

Any advice for a former early adaptor whose kids have prevented him from keeping up would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

cards like this aren't mpeg2 or mpeg4, that is all done in software, so you don't have to worry about it for dvb-t or dvb-s, you just need to install the correct codec

i have that card, and it works fine for DTT and FTA sat

going down the same route as you, the blackgold seems to be about the best but expensive. The pinnacle 7010 is cheaper but out of production (they pop up on ebay from time to time) and doesn’t do dvb-s2 which apparently BBC will be switching to sometime in the future but when is anyone guess....

here’s couple of links that will sort out your analogue issues with UPC
