Personally i wouldn't chance it. I was talking to a "lad" a while ago that asked me to shoot some feral goats that were on common land, but coming across onto his. I refused politely.

Found out 3 weeks later he got another lad to do it, and the shooter is now in trouble as the land was not common land and the goats were owned (but not maintained) by a local old farmer.

As you said unless you can written permission from someone, and not the chap you get permission from as its not his to give, then i wouldn't risk it.

Not unless he is the owner of the sporting rights, theres plenty of ground in wicklow where the grazing and shooting rights are held by different people.

You could be done for poaching on the land in question by whoever owns the sporting rights.

If its commonage a number of people will own it but they may or may not have sporting rights. I have been given permission on lands including commanage for my deer hunting licence but when NWPS checked the sporting rights they decided it was unclear who had them and excluded the area from my application. I had permission from three of the twelve owners!! You could check the folio on landdirect.ie, although you'll have to set up an account first and put 120 credit into it!!

its commonage and on the deeds to his land it states that he can graze animals and rights of access to it there is no mention of sporting rights and coillte dont have it I know that.the problem the farmer has that at night these deer feed on his haylage and feed and are gone well before dawn, the NPWS ranger is well aware of this as he grants the farmer section 42 for this, will get the rangers number a give him a bell if he gives the go ahead should be alright?.

if you know the farmer and he wouldnt lead you astray go ahead
you should know by the farmer if you would thrust him or not if its night time when is best to shoot them and it wasnt really exposed or open i couldnt advise on the legal end of things but

i know what i would do

haven said that i dont have a stalking licence so i prob wouldnt appreciate how hard they are to get and how easy they might be to loose

so ill leave it to you to use your better judgement

On that point of checking folios. If anyone wants this done .PM me ;) I might stil have a contact who uses this regurlary.
However ,quite often it wont list the sporting rights either.Especially on property that is still on land registery record numbers.[Dunno if they are online yet]

I actually do have an account for professional reasons and could help if you are really stuck on one or two folios but I would need the numbers to find them or else you'd have to come visit me and show me on the map. Were it dons't say anything about sporting rights on a folio then they are normally considered to be held by the owners but where there are muliptle owners as in commanage it is unclear. It costs 2.50 a go to view the folio's and tbh I would reccomend anyone thats gettting permisions particuraly for deer to get an account and check their permissions, the landowner dosn't always own the sporting rights particurly if the land was part of an old estate or where the land comission had it!!
