Saw them two year ago in Roisin Dubh, still excellent!

Heard on another site that the Academy is supposedly closing for a refurb, so keep an eye on any gigs there that you have tickets for in case of venue changes and whatnot.

Any chance of the Ambassador reopening?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,029 ✭✭✭salacious crumb

    None whatsoever.

    It's a shame. I loved that place.

Why? What happened to the ambassador?

Closed down, they hold stuff like Lego Conventions and Santa's Grotto ****e there now

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,944 ✭✭✭✭Links234

Oh I know there was conventions and stuff, but just wondering was there something that happened so that concerts can't be held there any more?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,029 ✭✭✭salacious crumb

It originally closed as a venue because the central library was supposed to move there. That didn't end up happening so they're just using it as an exhibition hall now.

It really is a pity cos it was a great venue. Much better atmosphere than the rather sterile Academy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,944 ✭✭✭✭Links234

Ah, I see. I like the Academy, great sound, and a good size. But yeah, it's a serious pity about the Ambassador, saw Fear Factory there many moons ago :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,681 ✭✭✭✭P_1

Caught Down there a few years back. Great venue shame to see it unused. Interesting about the library, I always assumed that someone from the Rotunda complained about the noise from the place.

Also it might just be the downstairs club part of the Academy that's closing so the venue part of it might be unaffected

Only been to the Ambassador once, first concert I'd ever gone to. Avenged Sevenfold, back when I was 16 or so :pac: I like the Academy, but I've only been there maybe 5-6 times, most of my shows have wound up being in either Whelans or the Pint, though it seems they are being shifted towards the Voodoo Lounge now.
