AK47 or AK74u?

So whats the best gun to be using?

I've been using the 74 a lot, but I picked up the 47 tonight and I think it might be better. Very fast reloading with the clip add on.

So what do you think?

Also, gameplay and montage wise, would you rather see a lot of the 74 or the 47?

I hate the 74u but at the moment anyway it's 'better' than the 47 in pretty much every way, there's no real advantage to using the 47 except maybe a slight range advantage.

He means the only advantage the 47 has over the 74u is range, apparently. I prefer the 47 w/ extended mags and rds.

I don't know why people put rds on the Ak's, they are the best iron sights in the game.


I've switched recently to the 47 from the 74u and don't see myself goin back. Having way too much fun and great scores with the 47

As someone who has loved the 47 in every other COD game in the past, I for whatever reason didn't take a shine to the BOPS version. Took me 4 prestiges and admittedly putting some proper time into it before liking it.

In saying that, it's quite obvious the 74u is on a different level compared to majority of guns in the game. It's most certainly on the same level as the P90 in COD4 or UMP in MW2. Ok the UMP is on a different level compared to the those guns but you get the point. But imagine stopping power on the 74u :eek:

edit - agree with the above. The iron sights have and always will be perfect on the AK.

double edit - like the UMP, the 74u shouldn't be available fairly early on. P90 it took a good few levels till you finally unlocked it.

74u for objective games , used to use the 47 but there are better a/r then it so use those on the bigger maps.

I prefer the 47, simply because it's an assault rifle - not sure why, but I've always been very fond of Assault Rifles over SMG's (gave up my precious UMP for the ACR back in MW2 :P)

I'd still rather the AUG to the AK though :pac:

I don't know why people put rds on the Ak's, they are the best iron sights in the game.

I don't know why people put sights on just about any gun (except maybe the semi-auto assault rifles)

AK47 in the right hands I think is the best gun in the game. Absolutely hate the 74u with a passion. Should be the last gun you unlock. Cant stand seeing a lad on 10th prestige with a 74u rapid fire going 30-30 on my team.

I started on the 74u, then 47 but I've recently discovered the AUG. It feels like the 47 from MW2 more than any other gun IMO which was my favourite.

AK47 is the best gun in all COD series for me. The iron sights are perfect and the gun is good at all ranges. Spray and pray with the 47 is not an option like with the 74u. I ALWAYS use silencer with the 47, it seems to make it more accurate.

The 74u is only good for rushing, also i get some bad hit reg sometimes with it on PC version of Bops.

AK74u dominates all. The AK47 sucks in Black ops, i always used it in the other cods but its been replaced with the galil which is probably the best AR in the game followed by the famas and enfield. The AUG sucks! way too weak, if you run into more then 1 person you are ****ed! it looks cool but as a gun its pretty crap... and what the hell is with all the submachine guns in the game?

I might do, i moved it to a room out of wireless range. Its an epic struggle to get up and move it back lawl

i quiet like the 74u with dual mag and grip. you get it early enough in the game, and can use it non stop till the aug is unlocked. all you have to do then is flute around with the perks till you prestige again.

Don't think the AK47 is as good in Black Ops as it was in MW2... Ak74u is the SMG of choice.. the simple difference between them is the AK47 will drop someone at distance better, with the 74u is beastly up close... I use that with my "Rusher" class.. silenced so the f*ckers don't hear ya mow down their team-mates....

The AK47 by far. Best gun in the game for me. It has it all. I feel untouchable when I use it. It's a shame all the guns I enjoy using are unlocked at the later levels

Both are class guns, 74u because you can access it so soon into a prestige (level 17) and it can be used with a grip to better it's accuracy and the 47 because it has some very clear iron sights and is just generally very good with most attachments, it's only downside is how late you get it.

I think the guns I've used the most are the ak74u, m16, ak47 and commando and since I use silencers on nearly all my classes I'd vote for the ak47 which has the better range with a silencer. I don't think I've ever gotten a long shot with a (silenced or unsilenced) 74u whilst I'm pretty sure I have with a silenced 47. The speed benefit of a SMG class over a AR class is neglible as you can tailor your setup much more to fine-tune a style of play.

They cannot be compared as they are normally used for 2 completely different things. I use both, depending on the map I'm playing.

they hotfixed the grip so it's not as effective anymore. With the 47, the recoil is straight up and down, really easy to manage, and the iron sights are a beauty.

I've been using the AK47 a lot lately. Because it's an AR, you can put a silencer on it and still take someone down over distance. The AK74u damage drop off and range ability is already lower than the AK47, so when silenced, probably wouldn't even bother taking the long shot on.

I like using the AK47 because it covers everything. Almost effective as the AK74u up close (same rate of fire and damage, but obviously AK74u has the SMG advantage, and rapid fire would give edge) and more effective at long range. Obviously there are better guns for close range, but when most people are running the AK74u, AK47 does the job. I also find recoil more manageable, although they are quite similar.

Most common class lately has been AK47 silenced, Markarov Extended Mags, Flak Jacket, Slight of Hand Pro and Hacker Pro. Only complaint is ammo runs out a bit too quick.

I prefer the 47 myself. In CoD4 I wouldn't put anything on it, it was fine on its own really. In BO, I haven't gotten it in regular MP, just Combat Training, which I play when my net is being too sucky to play proper online, and I still prefer it to the 74u.

Most of my deaths are from ak74 so I know it's power but also know that it's mostly used by players who score 21:18 and never really rack up seriously big scores or killstreaks. They go charging in kill 0/1/2/3 and then die. Which they repeat to varying success for the entire match. Sure there are times where they go 35:12 or something but they could go 11:23 next game. That's mostly unsilenced 74u players, if they had a silencer then they tend to do consistently much better and are far more sneaky.

If you want to bring in higher up killstreaks then a silenced AR is better than a silenced SMG from my experience, depending on maps. Since changing from an unsilenced ak74u to a silenced gun, my kdr is far improved and I can nearly* call in a blackbird a game.

Like others have said, the 74u should win out up close to a 47 but the 47 definitely wins out at range.

* I have now jinxed myself and no such feat shall ever occur.

I hate the iron sights on the 47, they aren't really needed as much on the 74u as its up close and personal
I only use the 74u on Firing Range and Nuketown (which never appears anymore). The rest of the time its the Galil silenced, and might swap over to the Commando when I unlock that again.

i voted for the ak74u , i use it with silencer and grip , i find if i shoot the ak47 its like i have parkinsons im juttering all over the shop that said im not that much better with the 74u , im finding blops really difficult , were as on mw2 i was great , kills a boo boo , it just seem to me blops favs the host .

AK74u is THE best smg in the game.

Ak47 isnt even a top 3 AR.


The 74 and famas are probably the two best guns in the game, along with the G11.


Montage wise i've gotten more quad and multikill sprays with the ak47 tho.


Oh and its the opposite almanu, hosting in black ops is a ****ing disaster, frame rates drop at least 20 for me when i host and i usually just leave because its unplayable

I think the MP5K is how SMGs should be. Nerf the 74u to MP5 standard, and buff everything else.

Thats the wrong way to go about it tho, i dont actually think it needs nerf'd, if anything the range should be took down a little. But nerfing it to 20 bullets will make it almost useless. Already its only on par with the famas and G11, **** even the galil is close enough to it. The problem is its obtainable too quickly, if it wasnt unlocked till level 40s i dont think anyone would be whining about it. Its just that everyone uses it. Its a great gun but it only seems so great because the rest of the SMG's suck dick (Cept the mp5k).

I dont really mind because i rarely use SMG's.

Agreed , if it does get nerfed then i think smg's wil be gone from the game and next month ppl will want the famas nerfed and after that it will be the g11.

I use the 74u a lot but if it gets nerfef , no big deal the famas is just as good.

74u is the best SMG in the game. It wont beat the 47 at range obviously but in every other area it wins. Put rapid fire on the 74u and its kill time is probably the fastest in the game (from experience)

Havent been able to get into the AK47 in this game. CoD 4 and MW2 they where my most used gun, but this game it just doesnt feel the same...Im gonna give it a proper try this prestige when i unlock it. What i DO like about the AK47 is the recoil. Its straight up 100% of the time. You know where its going and you can pull it down to compensate. As for the AUG. I tried to do an AUG challenge there the other day and i gave up after one TDM. The recoil is woeful, the thing doesnt know where it wants to go

The Ak 47 is just a tad weak imo, still a nice gun but that weakness puts me off using it all the time

in your hands, maybe it does feel a little weak. I find it's a savage gun. And the stats are in the high range with the Commando I just dont see it having any real flaws personally. It's my favourite AR.

for last few weaks iv been going through every AR and iv narrowed down to the commando and AUG. I do have the AK47 on a class but I seldom use it

It just isnt good enough to push over the commando or the AUG
