I will back this up by saying that there are people in my course who want to go to Harvard to do their postgrads and I honestly think one or two of them would kill someone to get there.

Anyway, like most people have said it's at the very least highly unprofessional for a teacher, male or female, to have a sexual relationship with a student. In some cases I'd almost call it abuse.

I don't know if I ever heard of a guy in a relationship with a lecturer. Or does it happen between gay or lesbian students and staff.

Maybe I am niave, but for the life of me I do not know how such a relationship would get initiated.

Having worked for an elite highly competitive university I can verify this. These kids know no bounds as to what they will do, that is men and women and not just professors and staff but to each other.

Its like a sociopath convention.

[As an aside I also know a fellow alum who now is a philosophy professor who has had two lawsuits taken out against him on the grounds he did not give them the grades they felt they deserved. *Not directly relevent to the thread but to further illustrate how driven these students are. I have a gazillion more frightening examples].
