Ok men the order was sent.

10 chips for 8 people (myself included, I got x2) came out at $45 including delivery. So $45 / 8 = $5.50 each so thats about €4 euro per chip to us. Is that right? Maths isn't my strong point :o

    $45 / 8 = $5.625

    $5.625 = €4.13184

    United States Dollars Euro
    1 USD = 0.734550 EUR 1 EUR = 1.36138 USD

So that'd be €4.13184 per chip, don't short change yourself :)

How might be pay you sir? Might you have an install service btw?

Well I'm kinda worried that if you borked one then it's not a simple install, as incase anyone doesn't know, the kerb man is quite a capable console modder. I fit one in the past though (first ever chip install) so hopefully it wasn't a fluke :D

I will indeed install the chip as an additional service :)

Chips landed today folks. So if you want to pick yours up just pm me etc. If you want me to do an install, you'll have to bear with me as I've Augmersons MD2 to mod tomorr, & a rake of stuff belong to o1s1n (from next week I should be free) :)

    Woohoo!
Finally I get my PSone back, but this time it's modified!
Come on Kerbdog, don't let me down!

You're a star. I'll try organising dropping mine down to be modded.

No problemo, as I said I'm swamped at the mo (forgot I've an Amiga 1200 & a Nomad belong to Andrew here too) so it won't be a drive-thru mod :D

There's no rush on any of that stuff I sent out to you. So if you want to prioritise all these ps1 mods and other bits work away!

Are you sure? Well until the PS1's start trickeling in, & the caps arrive from France I'll start picking through your stuff.

Cool stuff, no worries at all. The good people of this forum need their ps1s modded :D

Well there goes my €9.99 PSone :( Chip install went without a hitch, turn on the console & nothing. Verify the connections, all ok. Desolder some of the connections, two little ceramic resistors cracked & fell away (tiny tiny little things).

B0llocks anyway. Really not confident about doing more of these yet. It doesn't help that every install diagram I've seen seems different

Kerb - that PSone you borked, was that in the same manner? I wonder if its a lost cause could I pillage the two resitors from it & try restore my one?

Either way, installs on this have just been paused, I don't wanna break anyones console until I know what went wrong with mine. Stay tuned :(

**** sake, I want to play Tombi!

Seriously though, that sucks. Think it could be an error in the installation guide? Maybe the PSones have security inbuilt to stop this kind of modchip?

Nah its compatible alright, but installation info is so bloody sketchy given the age of the console. It seems there's all different points for different motherboards (this goes beyond the SCPH code).

Soldering is bloody easy too, those ceramic resitors are just not made to be heated more than once it seems. If I knew the solder points were correct I'd mark it down as an installation error, or a prob with the chip or something. But the info is so poor quality, in a knock off far eastern kind of way, that I can't be sure yet what the hell went wrong.

I'm reluctant to go again until I learn more, so I'll look into it & try resolve it. I don't really give a damn about my PSone (it was only a tenner), I just don't wanna bork anyone elses console.

I remember when I got my ps1 chipped my mate had just tried to do his cousins console with similar results. He said it was because of the pins. He thought that number one pin was in the usual location but sue to the dodgyness of the chip it was in another position. Now don't quote me on this as I know very little about these things but my mate knows his stuff and he was able to do mine no bother once he compensated for the odd pin positions

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

That's very possible alright. The chips are cheap, but the same ones you get if you pay more elsewhere. It would explain the no bios screen even, god knows.

I'll scowl through some forums & see what I can dig up.

My mod turned on, but the CD drive wouldn't spin the disk. You could see the laser coming on but just wouldn't spin the disc.
I even removed the chip and still the same.

I'm fairly sure Ciderman wouldn't mind yea keeping his old 'borked' console now, I have another console which I have to pickup and another on route from a seller in Dundalk :) €10, couldn't go wrong!

Let me know what yea want to do - I'm traveling this week though, so it would be next week at the earliest I could get the consoles to you.

There's no rush at all Kerb, and if Cidey doesn't want the borked PSone I'll take it to try salvage my own one :( If it works Cidey, you will have levelled up by one free mod (in other words get that Asian MD to me for some free 60hz goodness).

I have a chipped ps1 that you could use to see whats done to it, once you don't bork it that is:D
Seriously though if you want to just see whats going on with it I'll let you no bother!

Do you know what type of chip is in it? If it's the same as our ones then that would be a life saver. For all I know there's nothing wrong with the installation procedure, but that you were right & pin 1 isn't the normal pin 1. This may have destryoed the chip, may have borked the ps1, the pins may be actually correct, I'm using the wrong solder points,....the info is so sketchy that my blood pressure rises!

Well you can get my ps1 then and check it out the more info you can garner the merrier.
Don't know what chip is in it because it was done a long time ago but the pin locations were different so I know thats what was causing the problems back then

Is it a PSone though? PS1's have different points altogether.

Bah, wrong one for now. Undoubtadly I'll come across an issue on the PS1's though so will take you up on that when the time comes. Raging yesterday I was, not so much in failure, but the damned lack of verified info makes my blood boil. Like it's a chip with 8 wires, it's not difficult by any stretch. I certainly know Kerbdog & myself are capable of installing them without hassle...grrr.

No problem sure when you're doing a big one you can have mine as a sample.

Let me pre-empt Retr0, to save him getting the credit for this.

"EnterNow is gonna sample PDBHP's Big One"

Yes yes very funny Retr0 :D

No spare psOnes unfortunately. But have lots of different model numbers of the old ones of you want to play around with them.
