Anybody else having trouble with deliveries from CRC in the last 2 weeks?. My order was "shipped" on the 14th December, still no sign of it here in Dublin. I appreciate that the weather might be a factor but on the same day I ordered stuff from Rose Bikes in German and it arrived 4 days later!!

I would guess weather problems - you are relying on Royal Mail and An Post - the incumbents in two countries not geared up for mad weather - where as the snow probably caused no such issues for the Germans..

    Probably/ stereotyping slightly etc..

    Have you tried calling them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭endurodave

well if its royal mail be prepared to wait of its with parcleforce/gls get onto them or even better take your tracking number and plug it into the couriers sites. but with the weather and season that's in it delays are to be expected !

I've only had 2 days of post here in the last week, so yes I'd imagine it's the weather causing the problems with Royal Mail/An Post. The Germans website probably uses a private delivery service which is why they got delivered.

According to CRC, it was shipped by good old "royal mail" so god only knows when it will arrive. The box from Germany started its journey by DHL but when it arrived in Ireland it was taken over by An Post EMS, who delivered it at 9.30 last Sunday morning. I sent another order to Germany on Sunday 19th, it was shipped on the 20th, and arrived at my house this morning 23rd at 9.30. now that is what I call a great service, and fantastic prices too, check it out at rosebikes.co.uk

Yep had the joy of dealing with the service from royal mail too it took close on 2 weeks for a dvd to arrive from crc at the start of the month.
My advise is so order all you need at once to get the courier service its vastly more efficient. Hope it arrives for you tomorrow.

There is every possiblity that your order went back to the UK to be forwarded here. With the weather here and over there and the disaster that is The Royal Mail it really is in the lap of the post Gods.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,575 ✭✭✭Glencarraig

Well, having experienced Rose Bikes pricing and super fast delivery
(from Germany) I have become their No1 fan. No more CRC for me. If you are thinking about buying any components check out their prices, you will be happy !!

PS, delivery charges for most things to Ireland is only €5.95

PPS, just in case I incur the wrath of the mods, I have no connection with Rose Bikes other than being a very happy new customer.

It just seems to be due to the weather/ backlog in the UK.

ordered from crc on 1st Dec, arrived last Sat (18th)... I rang crc Tues last week, they said give it at least 15 (working?) days for royal mail international. If it doesn't show up by then, they would send out the order again.

At worst, you could be waiting until the new year :(

Postman just called this morning with my delivery. Right on time :)

Ordered on Monday early and it arrived yesterday but that was the express post, guaranteed next day delivery thing was an extra fiver. It was a present though so I was just happy to get it.

Well postman has just gone, nothing from CRC. It is now 10 days since the order was shipped, even with the weather i think its a kinda pathetic service. Unless of course it went via the North Pole and the fat man in the red suit is bringing it tonight!!

i ordered on the 8th and got on the 20th. emailed them and they said due to weather it could be 15 working days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 oneilld73

I ordered on the 10th, shipped on the 13th but apparently it now takes 20 working days to deliver!!!. Dont know if I'll be ordring from them again.:(

Postal times have really gone bad in the past few months. CRC and royal mail = lonnnng time. I think An post have something to do with it. Incoming mail is very slow on their side.
Really annoying if your stuck for a part. I,m looking locally now before ordering.

They can be funny sometimes. I remember one day looking at an order that had been "processing" for two days and I was about to fire off an email when the package landed on my desk...

You should have got them from CSS. They are usually as cheap once they have it in stock. Cables and tools always in stock. UK VAT is going up 2.5% tomorrow night! CRC not so hot anymore.. Decent hike up on prices. Shop now before new year.

have CRC not been charging Irish VAT for a while now?

I assumed that if you buy a good from an EU state and ship into another EU state. You paid the rate of VAT in the origin country not the destination country. I will stand corrected if otherwise.

If CRC is charging Irish VAT rates then CRC should ship from REP of Ireland and my bits should be next day delivery. Not next year royal mail del.:pac:

unfortunately as i understand it when a company in a member state goes above a certain amount of sales to another country they must then from that point charge the VAT of the destination country. CRC sold at UK VAT for a good while but it changed some time back. You can check what price you'd pay if you were in the UK by changing the country

I bought a €1000 guitar, and paid UK tax on it :D

wish they did still charge the UK VAT, it was a nice little saving when they did! Particularly when the euro was strong against the £!! Luckily i got some steals then too ;)

I got my guitar for €950 when the £ was weak, when it cost over €1350 here :D

EDIT: My order has been dispatched at 08:41 this morning.

Yeah, but what Bambaata meant was that when the company's total sales to the other country go above a value, they have to charge the VAT, it's not assessed on a per transaction basis. So possibly wherever you bought your guitar don't sell that much to Ireland across the board.

I did that but after a few upgrades of it I get all precious about it and try to avoid dirt on the road which defeats the object of a winter bike. Enjoy the new bike

Have noticed a long delivery time over xmas too. Although I sent back a pair off spl shoes I bought from them two months previously with a covering letter stating I knew I was past the timeframe for returns but if I could get even a shop credit it would be great and got an email to say refund was being applied. More than fair of them I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 388 ✭✭El.duderino

two months previously timeframe for returns
12 month returns now. Which is good if you like to buy things that you might need. Just leave it in the box and if you don,t use it send it back.

Yes, the limit is only €35,000. At least CRC are decent about it, they just charge the extra, some companies force you to buy in euros or on a different site, and you invariably end up paying far more than just the vat differences.

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vat/leaflets/vat-registration-foreign-traders.html
3.2 Where the value of distance sales to the State by a supplier in another EU Member State exceeds €35,000 in a calendar year that supplier must register for VAT in the State and must account for VAT at the appropriate Irish rates. If the threshold is not exceeded, the supplier may opt to register and account for VAT in the State on his or her distance sales.

well there is one upside, at least the Irish government get the VAT (to squander on getting their nails done etc).

My last CRC order was 8 December 2010 10:16 and I had it the next day -very impressed. It was only £32 worth so I did not think I would get free courier. I think before they sent stuff by courier on a small purchase and I guess it was since royal mail would have been slow.

The big difference in price can be on food items, like gel packs, e.g. £43.99 UK vs £53.23 to here http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=38017. This is since they are zero rate vat in the UK but 21% here. This is for sports supplements, its a strange grey area, if some products did not have pictures of athletes on the packet they would be vat free here too. If tesco put shamrock glucose next to the lucozade they/you might have to pay 21% VAT, but as it is stocked in the baby food section it is zero...

The Watson family in ballyclare Co.Antrim run a tight ship one of Irelands leading companies big turnover 110 million euros in 2010 and huge profits about 30 %. Most companies had delivery problems pre xmas now the water companies jumping on the wagon.
CRC going from strenght to strenght and local dealers feeling the pinch.
If you can get it local do so.

I think we would all prefer to buy local if it made sense to but it's very hard with the huge choice and price differentials offered online! In fairness The Cycle Superstore can very often be competitive on price (particularly Assos recently!) and carry decent stock levels.

Give it 48 hours. If you ordered after 3pm of the 30th, it would have been dispatched the next day (Friday), nothing would happen on Saturday and Sunday. It was a bank holiday this weekend, so that would explain Monday. So if it was dispatched at 3pm on Friday, that would only have counted as 9 hours until midnight last night. It should come tommorrow though.

My deliveries from CRC are generally two or three days longer than they state on their website.

I've looked into it, and told them this when I was in their showroom/warehouse in Ballyclare 2 weeks before Christmas. (Which incidentally is well worth a visit if you're up north, bling central!!:D)

We tracked a few of my orders over 2010 and found -
All were sent out Parcelforce (A UK company)
All were received by GLS in good time (Eire Parcelforce 'partners')
Every delivery was delayed by the local courier, GLS.

CRC phoned Parcelforce when I was there and flagged this up, and I have been asked to call the guy in CRC if I have an issue next time, they seemed genuinely concerned the service level has dropped.

Oh, and you can track CRC orders on the GLS website using the ref. no issued when CRC confirm the order - I did this the last time and when I phoned GLS after the usual 3 day delay the goods were with me next day.

My personal opinion is GLS are a bit thin on the ground - I''m in Wicklow and the local depot is Carlow, and the delivery guy always seems under pressure.

And it's scary when you track back your orders and how much you have spent - Mrs Macsporran better not find the order record.....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

if its a small package it goes by royal mail, if its large its couriered by parcelforce/gms. I ordered some stuff around 5am and it was dispatched this afternoon. order was to the value of around 45euro

when I ordered my snow tyre in december it came the next day!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,150 ✭✭✭kumate_champ07

so if you are buying something small in dimension, order a cheap tyre and it will bump up your delivery time!
