hi there i shot my first fallow buck, i have just been shooting last 2 month's got 2 prickets nothing to boast about nice to eat tho.......... but i am happy now to have shot something with a fare head and place on the wall i aint got enough to get it stuffed so anyone no of a safe way to preserve the skull i was thinking of boiling of the flesh off but am afraid that it may make the bone fragile:confused: any IDEA'S would be great thank.

Boiling the skull wont make it fragile at all.The messy bit is cleaning it totally spotless of flesh. Some lads use a steam power washer these days.
Then you have to pack it totally in cotton wool and keep it soaked in hydrogen peroxide for about a week.Get a bone white skull then.Google this to find out more.

this is more of a question than a suggestion, but what about a bucket with maggots in it, they'll clean every ounce of flesh off it surely??

Ya or do what I done last year, find a safe spot tie the head to a tree, the magpies and grey crows will pick it clean to perfection

Cant imagine it being very hygenic or non smelly in the late Summer or Autumn??
I know Austrian hunters bury them in the giant ant hills and let the red ants work away on it.Within a month the trophy is picked clean. That all fine, but you still have to get the bones de fattend...[There is a correct medical term for this].Thats where the HP comes in.It bleaches and takes the grey/brown tint out of the skull[which is still fat].

Also, you need it in industrial strength, not the stuff the "bleach blonde bunnies" use.If they did ,they would have no hair at all on the head or anywhere else for that matter.:D.The stuff they use is cut down. You need it in appx 50 to 80% proof or stronger.
Nip into a commercial hairdresser suppliers or chemist for it.Be careful with it too,it can really bleach burn skin.
