Grey squirrell conservation ranger?

I was recently reading an article about a grey squirrell conservation ranger in england shooting greys with an air rifle.
Do we have such a thing here? I would do that job for free. Or is our government waiting untill all the red squirrells have been replaced so they have to reintroduce them, before they consider taking action to help the reds maintain a healthy population.
Anyway, do these type rangers exist? and if they do surely they dont use air rifles because (I could be wrong) isnt hunting with air rifles illegal?
    Anyone know the story?

I've never heard of such a position existing here, nor do i believe there is one. Would be a sweet number though.

I think the Gov. here rely on the NGBs and game clubs here to reduce or maintain the number of squirrels. Hence the prize by the NARGC for the most amount of returns from each club each year.

As for air rifles being illegal, not that i know off. Yes they would be inappropriate for certain vermin control due to being under powered at certain distances, but illegal. I don't think so.

As far as i know that ranger in the U.K uses cages to trap the squirrell and then the air rifle to dispatch!

The article says he traps them and hunts them with an air rifle and his partner stands by with a shotgun!
