MW2 vs Black Ops Part Deux

    Howdy All,

It's been just under a month now since the release of Black Ops, giving people plenty of time to play and adjust accordingly. When the first poll was made I think a lot of people jumped the gun (no pun intended). I know I did, but then ultimately was right in my decision.

So, here we have it - Which one do you prefer?

As of the last 2 weeks I've gone back to MW2 and loving it even more so.

I agree... MW2 is alot better. I still play black ops.. But Mw2 is played alot more.

    Can't wait for MW3 :)

There's good and bad in both games

The graphics and look of the games was better and smoother in MW2
The hit detection is better in MW2 than black ops
The match making was better in MW2 than black ops
Where MW2 let itself down is they ignored all the problems with the game so Black Ops wins in where is the better game. MW2 was fun chasing nukes even though I'd never get one. The movement of the players was also better in MW2

I dont know about anyone else, have little game time on BO due to its buggy nature and constant crashing. So yeah, so far not impressed.

Mw2 is just unplayable too because of fcuking tubers left, right and centre. Only thing I will say is that it atleast WORKS.

Liking neither atm and never buying another COD title.

MW2 was fun and crazy, Black-ops is a lot more balanced and favours the more attacking player imo.

I dont know which to vote :o

Couldn't wait until patch 1.04 ? Where they have apparently fixed all the connection issues that seem to be driving people away from the game ?

Either way, i cant really judge until the game is at least 3 or 4 months old because i never played MW2 until then... and hence missed all the bugs and random **** that apparently plagued it aswel.

Didn't realise there was a patch coming out. I hardly created this at this specific time intentionally to woo people onto the side of M2

Still i think its pointless comparing a game that is not even a month old and will have quite a few updates to come to one that has received every update and fix that it will ever get. Should be "Which game was the most playable in its first few weeks after release ? MW2 or BLOPS".

Sorry but I can't edit the title of the thread, ah well.

I think a month is a decent amount of time to get to know the game. Disconnections are not part of the game so it's not like you could base your decision on that.

At the mo, MW2, purely due to the lag and disconnection issues, sure MW2 game timed out, but I never had to reset my console or have it crash as a result, Blops is a faulty product, plain and simple. Also its dull. MW2 is an utter blast to play the majority of the time.

Put it this way, if Blops had the graphics and sound of MW2, and got rid of stuff like DC, commando and tubing, itd be the perfect COD game.

Went back last week to play a game of MW2 and it hasn't left the PS3 since.
I'll give Black Ops another go in a month or two but I just love MW2

Alot of people are really frustrated with the disconnections and **** so people are obviously going to take that into consideration when deciding which game they prefer..krudler for example. But yeah, no point making excuses for the game, its an absolute sham on the PS3 and the matchmaking system is part of the game i guess so it all counts, i wasnt around for the start of MW2 and dont know if there were problems like this during its first month ?

Is there definitely gonna be a third? I thought that what happened to IW would have put an end to the franchise. . .

Either way, I'm back playing MW1, I probably shouldn't be here

I see the point you're making but I was hoping that people wouldn't base their decision solely on the DC issues. For me it's due to the lack of power in the guns. The sound fx and graphics are something you would expect to find on the Disney channel.

Can't say I know much of MW2 when it first came out, it took me a good few months to get it.

    BO by miles.

Went 79 and 16 on HQ the other day capturing 4 points.

So much more balanced than Mw2.

Om another note, im buying a older cod game tomorrow, what should i get, MW or MW2?

How many of you complaining about connection issue's and the like are playing on the PS3? I have zero, ZERO problems on the 360. PSN is a joke people, its free for a reason.

My vote goes to BO. Overall its the more enjoyable experience compared to MW2 killsteaks and noobtubing. BOPS is far more skill based with lots more gun on gun fighting rather than camping for a predator to harrier to chopper. Guns having recoil in BO is also a big plus for me. You cant full auto ACR people from halfway across the map in BOPS.

Although BOPS isnt without problems. Sniping isnt as fun in BOPS, knifing isnt consistent and the footstep sounds + ninja arnt "right" yet, but apprently there is a patch coming soon that will address all my gripes with BOPS

I would get MW2. Although i think MW is a superior game compared to MW2. BOPS and MW are very similiar in that they both reward gunplay skill and there isnt any crazy unbalanced **** in the game. Reason the get MW2 if you already have BOPS is to get a different experience, cause it has loads of "cool ****" in it

I imagine you could pick up a copy of mw1 pretty cheap at this stage. I prefer it coz its just got more class than mw2, you can't hide behind a grenade launcher and a 15ft expendable arm, you actually developed skill and accuracy. Also, not having 12 year olds constantly whining through my telly is a freaking relief!

Again, I'm OT, I'm not really here

Thanks for the replies guys, decided to get MW tomorrow because a friend will give it to me for a tenner :D hopefully its as good as they say. Does anyone know how many are online normally on it? Is it easy to get a game?

The problems have nothing to do with PSN mate, you obviously have no idea since your a 360 player. The problem is the result of an awful port job and lack of care coding the PS3 version, there are no problems with any other online game on the PS3 besides that of activision. Trust me i know. How are you going to feel when your paying for both xbox live and a cod subscription this time next year ? :D When they introduce a subscription fee for cod they'll make sure they dont have these imbalances between both versions... that or they'll lose out on a few hundred million quid.

Dont know, I went back to play MW2 last night and really enjoyed. No connection issues, sniping was fun, very little tubers. Commando annoyed me a couple of times but everyone seems to have it in BO anyway.
I'm hoping they will fix the issues it has on the PS3 and turn it into a great game.

Although I'm playing Bops and really like it my vote would go for MW2. MW2 just feels /looks and sounds like the newer game. I'm a bit of an outsider though 'cos I love both games.

It's hard for me to call.

    Black Ops
    It is much fairer.
I'm enjoying the additions to the game since MW2 (camo, reticles etc)
    There's alot less rage quiting.
There are a couple of excellent maps.

The negatives are in joining matches that don't end abruptley and also, whilst they have fixed the quick-scoping, the sniping is broken in the sense of hit markers at a distance (which I understand they will be fixing). The sound is pretty crappy (when running you hear a few of your own footsteps, but not all) and the game is actually less colourful which gives it a kinda bland look.

    MW2
Was the first online shooter I played, so it blew me away at the time.
The graphics and sound are better.
Better selection of emblems and achievement awards and better notification when you unlock them.

The best part of all was the craic I had with the lads on here and my mates, and there seems to be alot less on this :(

The negatives for MW2 were quick-scoping, noobtubing, boosting, commando teleporting, being able to snipe with a pistol and also UMP, overpowered weapons in general (see the MW2 megabitch thread for more).

If I could make an analogy, MW2 would be a good looking girl who has annoying habits and gets on your t*ts, whereas Black Ops would be a little plainer looking but doesn't get on your nerves as much and is better in the scratcher :D:D:D:D

Agreed with you till the last part of the last line...to labour the metaphor a bit...
MW2 is a good looking woman who you click with but who has awful mood swings (I would have said 'mental woman' but it's a bit of a tautology) and then forget about it.
BO is her older looking younger sister who you don't click with but doesn't vary from kinky nympho bitch to sitting on the couch in fat-man pants, eating ice-cream, watching chick flicks and bitching down the phone about men to her equally shallow friend.

Got MW today, beaut game for a tenner and so easy to find a game suprisingly  It was faster to find a match on this 3 year old game than Black Ops :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,207 ✭✭✭hightower1

MW2 by a mile, a lot of people seem to have a hard time deciding and that for me says more than a lot. With BO Treyarch knew what worked and what didnt , they had a LOT of the hard work done already and yet managed to make a game that at best is difficult to say is on a level playing field let alone is better.

If you cant make a following game better than the previous you have done nothing bar waste fans time.

    What was good in MW2....

Graphics - treyarch messed that up
    Sound - that too
    Matchmaking - Yup.

    What didnt work...
People exploiting poor gameplay mechanics - Treyarch fixed mostly

How can you have a solid base on which to build a game but yet do away with a lot of the lessons learned? If any games series continues this way it fails and dies (the final fantasy series is a good example and sales / metacritic scores show its near the end) . If something continues from the forbearer it should at least be marginally better as it has the benefit of hindsight..... treyarch managed to flop at that. Traded my copy in and havent thought about it twice. Still play MW2 to this day.

If sources are to be believed then yes!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is slated to be released in 2011. It will be the eighth entry in the Call of Duty franchise.[20][21] It has been hampered with legal trouble between publisher Activision and the former co-executives of developer Infinity Ward, delaying pre-production[22] although Infinity Ward has been trying to hire new employees to work on Modern Warfare 3.[23]

Magill, there will never be a charge to play COD online, Activision came out and confirmed it. Link here.

I prefer BLOPS. I prestiged in both games, so I've put in enough hours to make an informed decision. MW2 was horribly unbalanced. Sure, there was plenty of fun to be had playing it, but all the fun I had was with friends and could be in spite of the game as opposed to because of it. Noobtube w/OMA, commando knife, quick scoping, etc.

I have never had any connection issues by the way, so that is a moot point for me. As for sound and vision, I don't notice a huge difference, and graphics mean nothing in an online shooter. Anyone familiar with Quake? It's not about how pretty something is, it's about a solid framerate.

Actually, now that I think of it... I've read people complaining about sniping in BLOPS. It still seems solid to me, just not broken now. People seem to be pissed that you can't bring it into a battlefield but that's not what the gun is for. It's for long distance.

    Just my 2c.

They are certainly the stand out points to define whats better about mw2 than black ops. Things like control scheme finer points are simply personal preference as opposed to graphics / sound / match making which can be agreed on by the majority of people as being ether better or worse.

I honestly couldn't separate them both at this moment. I think playing MW2 with all the xbox guys here has raised and prolonged the enjoyment from that game. We'd often crush all comers and some of the games we played together were amazing fun. Keeping Elkatsumoto's ridiculous winning streak going became our winning streak, shooting down enemy uav even when you had ghost because you'd know they'd be covering you whilst you spin around like a dervish. In a word, altruism.

BOPS could be as good as MW2 but I haven't as yet consistently enjoyed it as much as MW2/1. In fact I found it far more frustrating. The spawn system seems nonsense, even in array you have spawns that chuck opposing teams spawns almost within sight of each other. It's even worse on nuketown and firing range especially when the game isn't TDM. Nuketown is just a rectangular version of rust, its a TDM map and shouldn't be used for tactical games. Launch does the same, people spawn behind you but it has the rocket area as a neutral point. I know some people will like the greater closer to the action side but not at the complete loss of a tactical element.

It still seems to reward camping (cannot scavenge equipment though), and there is still a massive host advantage (my internet could be the main culprit here) and the party system still seems flakey, a party of 6 becomes 4 in the lobby. Also I find it much easier to MW2 (hence less of a challenge) but that could be the influx of people who play for a month and never get "good" whereas all the people who played MW2 to the end were old hands at the game.

I hate to say this but I actually prefer playing multiplayer (alone) rather than in a small group in BOPs (2 or 3 on a team), simply because in TDM the team that wins is the team with the least amount of rubbish players. If your teammates outside your party are just giving the enemy soft kills (and don't carry at least a LAW between them), then you're hardly likely to knock out a UAV if you and you're party are running ghost. I'll save my strella-3 for a chopper. It changed the way I play simply out of necessity from a team player to a selfer.

If all the guys who played MW2 regularly together played BOPs for a week solid in a 6 man team of boardsies then I'm sure they might soften their opinion but likewise if all the people who praised BOPs over MW2 played in our parties in MW2 they would have a much tougher choice between them.

Perhaps it was just the fun we had when we all played together, the game is largely irrelevant and the greatest enjoyment was from each others company and sharing an experience? The time the lads all camped up at spawn in Strike as snipers, everyone running ghost and silencers in TDM, the zombie knife game type, using riot shields in search and destroy.

Next time I'm on I'll be getting the band back together.

Prefer MW2 to be honest..Maybe its just coz it was the first game I gave any serious multiplayer time to.

But I find the black ops maps a little samey, theres a number whose names excape me, but they are basically snow filled industrial complexes which have very little to differentiate them from one another. Other ones such as the cuban house one is basically the same as the others without the snow.

I really only play FFA so the experience could be different on other game modes.

Ironically I am close to prestiging and have a 1.5 Kdr in black ops, I never got close to even a 1.00 in MW2.

Mw2. Apart from the obvious reasons (sound, graphics and matchmaking) I hate the maps in black ops. They are depressing and tbh, puts me off playing blops. I could pop in MW2 now and play it on my own or With people off here for 4-5 hours. I would not be able to do that on blops.

Because of all the talk about MW2 having better graphics/sound/feel to it, I went back and had a few games of it last night.

I honestly dont know where that's coming from. I think the graphics are far superior in Black Ops. The sound is better in MW2 all right, but no way I'd drop all the benefits (and there are many) of Black Ops for that.

If Black Ops could fix the connection/lag issues and sort out the god damn knifing , then I reckon it would be far superior to MW2

MW2 is way better than the BOPS, just look!

Was playing MW2 earlier on the my mates 360 for about 15 minutes. * I traded in MW2 for those who don't know *.

    Anyway.

2 games. One was Sabotage on Highrise. My entire team was spawn trapped across the building where you can get on the roof. 2 snipers up there with Tac Insert up their crack. 1 on the helipad sniping through the gap. 2 gimps with M/L/C and one guy with a OMA, DC and Noob tube bonanza on the crane/scaffolding beside our spawn.

The guy with the bomb? On the roof the entire time. Seemingly my teammates were quite stupid in that they kept running out the window instead of going the lower section like I was doing. I was the only one breaking even on my team but I had to rage quit.

    2nd game, Ground War. I went 48-7.......

6 of my deaths were from noob tubes.

It was super duper, uber epiczzz fun.

Yimrag, you brought a tear to my eye.

    ...oh the memories!

But in all seriousness, great post. I really think it was the banter and the constant crushing, having a full 6 person lobby run til stupid o'clock that made the game for me.

This is how I imagine we would react if we were to get the band back together.
