It's a given that a batter-sausage is the pinacle of deep fat fried food, but there's their ugly bastard cousin always sitting there next to them on the counter. I never see anyone order them, outside of drunk students pretending to be scangers to their mates for a laugh and yet they must sell because they're always available.

Never heard that name for it but i have had in and tis nice , its just called a batter burger in a bun where im from.

Also i heard boys talking a bungo in a thread i started last week which i thought was dublin slang for a burger but apparently it is a separate item. Ive never heard of anyone getting one . Can someone explain what it is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 476 ✭✭bc dub

ah same here, it was the long description. but I've since seen it on 'some' menus as whirly!

    • Batterburgers - heart-attack
    • Spiceburgers - healthy yummy vegetarian option (except for the beef)
    • Battered Mars bar - stay in Scotland with nasty stuff like Haggis and Iron Bru.

    This needs a poll.

I have never tasted one - so can't say if I like them. They sound pretty grostesque though.

Tried a bastard burger many years ago. Took a bite & automatically puked it into the bin along with the remainder of it. YEEEEUUUUKK!!!!

    Batter burger - forkin ratten
Batter sausage - actually quite nice with a drop of ketchup.

    It's a guilty secret pleasure of mine.:D

Whilst out with friends trying to obtain sustenance from a rocket and feta salad with seared flakes of asparagus, I yearn for a dirty great batterburger...yum!!

I love them but the trick is to eat them quickly without looking at the 'meat'. Keep your attention on the golden batter outside.

I seem to "think" I like them when I smell them in the chipper. But they just never taste as I imagine they should.

If it's so nice why does no other country eat it ?
And Scots only eat it to be more Scottish. Not for the taste. :pac::pac:

Sure - the working class love them. Same as Brown Sauce (not to be ignorantly confused with YR) and 3 in 1s.

Brown sauce is minging and three-in-ones are four-in-ones for pussy vegetarian hippies.

I've only ever had one batter burger and it was fine. I'd prefer a bag of chips soaked in delicious sodium chloride and acetic acid. :pac:

I had a batter burger with my Italian other half, she liked it. She wouldn't eat one again mind.

Whirly burger is the pinnacle of chipper induced heart attacks.

Spice Burgers are also delicious, but very dependent on what chipper you get them in.

Staple diet of night outs in student years .. I always asked if they would throw in a few chips too.

Prefer garlic mushrooms though .. washed down with a decent pint of Guinness. AHHH!

i love batter burgers. considering leaving the office at lunchtime to get one.

i also love battered mushrooms but these are the more rare variety of battered food and can only be founded in certain establishments..

portion of battered mushrooms and a portion of onion rings for the walk down town to the nitelink. oh it takes me back.
