Just wondering if anyone else notices that around that time of the month you seem to attract a lot of male attention without any effort whatsoever? Happens me every month for those few days, then its back to normal!:D:rolleyes:

Theres definitely some science/psychology to this but its fascinating dont you think?

Can't say I'm the same honestly. I usually get a huge breakout in spots which is very unattractive. As well as feeling terrible which makes me feel even more unattrative, so no, no I don't...

I start cleaning everything manically about 12 hours beforehand like clockwork. And I am not a very tidy person for the rest of the month. Its freaky :P

I'm so tired, bloated and nauseus around that time of the month, I wouldn't even notice if God himself came up to me with his lad hanging out and said 'That apple was meant for you, you know' with a leer on his face.

@Crayolastereo, I turn into a superefficient cleaning machine for about 12 hours before dropping into a coma-like sleep. Shame it doesn't last.:)

    Me three.

And in the absence of regular good sex, I end up getting ridiculously narky as well. Which on top of the delightful dose of PMT rage make me such a charming person to be around.

    The Bottlebank run.
When the bottles that have been there all month long without me batting an eyelid start to bug me its a sign that my period is due within 48 hours.

Himself pointed this weird one out to me, and nearly had a near death experience for his trouble.

Definitely agree with the cleaning thing. I took today off to work on a presentation from home (mainly because I slept in!); I've done 2 hours on the presentation and about 4 hours cleaning the apartment. I'm about to put on the 3rd load of laundry :o

My wardrobe is nice and organised though, yay :)

    There is a science element.

Strippers that are ovulating get much bigger tips then ones on the pill.

    The more you know.

My boobs are usually massive (and really sore) so that could be it. No complicated science there. Men are simple enough beings on that front

Usually I hate myself and the world for the days coming up to it that I don't care. What a waste.

RIDICULOUSLY horny. Its so unfair. And then nice and skinny when a debloat - less horny then unfortunately!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,649 ✭✭✭Catari Jaguar

Yea, before I was on contraception I'd get ridiculously horny in the few days before hand. Then I went on Depo Provera and would know when it was time for my next dose because I'd get the horn. On implanon my periods stopped and killed my sex drive, now I am a female eunoch.

About the attractiveness, on the Always pad wrappers they have facts and it says your eyes get brighter and shinier and you get rosy cheeks and red, more plump lips too. Boobs get bigger. All to snare a man and get preggers when you're at your most fertile or something.

Ovulation and menstruation (the topic of this thread) are not the same and occur approximately 2 weeks apart.

    I clean too.

As for being horny...I would rather shít in my hands and clap tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,766 ✭✭✭squeakyduck

I find I clean all the time, I hate living in mess, but only tonight I said to my boyfriend I want to clean my room from top to bottom....am I going through the change?!

I eat so much chocolate, get in a horrible mood for a while, but I also get very horny before :o

Now I'm sitting in bed full of chocolate and popcorn nursing my pains with some water and aspirin, I'm gonna sleep soon :)

I just tend to get extremely dramatic and tearful approx 24 hours before mine.

I turn into a crazy person, and my poor OH just smiles coyly with the "Youre getting your period tomorrow arent you" look on his face!

I think he does just be relieved that he isnt to blame for my mood!

So no horniness for me and no attraction from men!

Although I will want sex about 2 days in, just because I cant!

Im the same and my boyfriend literally wont leave me alone. I think you release lots of Pheromones

Ah my mood changes drastically, like irritable and dramatic is not the word and the other half will always say 'oh are you girl gross' - wrecks my head

hes so sweet though like i spend half my time wanting to be hugged and looked after and half the time wanting to be sexed so he is trying to balance it!

Also my appetite is huge like there is no filling me, i will eat anything around me.

Do ya know what i realised? If i have my period i'd have no problem telling people but some people just arent comfortbale talking about it! like i was in work and told the girls i had cramps - girls id be quite close to and one of them got all embarrassed and was like oh my god thats way too much info... whereas the rest of the girls started talking about when they have it etc,

Its a bit personal to broadcast wholesale. Its not that I don't think people should talk about it, but I'd be uncomfortable if someone just announced it in the middle of a work day.

Its different being out with the girls outside of work.

Have to say i hate this, i've no problem talking about it to my close friends but work just isn't the place, had to laugh one day a girl did this in work, was sharing too much info about her cramps and one of the other girls just said "yeah poor you, i'm constipated" nearly fell off my chair laughing! She got the message after that, never heard any more from her about her periods thank god! lol

I don't think its anything to do with being uncomfortable, its just i wouldn't share info about my bowel movements with people in work, so why would i share info about my uterus contractions!

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 16,186 ✭✭✭✭Maple

It's also the only time of the month that i'd get a craving for chocolate, can take or leave it mostly but one or two days of the month chocolate is all i can think about.

Some months i can coast through my period but other months i'm like this demented ranty chocolate devouring Succubus. :D

It's funny that if we had a cold, we would have no problem saying "oh god I'm smothering with this flippin cold", describing dripping mucus from your sinus, yet some folks get wigged out by muscle contractions just because they are in your womb.:)

I guess I belong to the TMI group so, but there's a certain camaraderie that comes from saying to another woman "oh im dying with the cramps" and them understanding and being sympathetic. And sometimes having an emergency nurofen in their handbag :D

For me, I'm on the POP so I don't get a regular monthly. However my OH has managed predicting it down to a fine art! The anger over the rolled-up-socks in the washing basket, the huge energy put into cleaning like never before, the weepy neediness, sometimes he (for a laugh) buys a bar of dairy milk, opens the door, throws it it and screams "BOOM!" and runs away.

    Makes me laugh every time.:p

Im the exact same!!! as far as I know its biology doing that. when we are having our period we ment to repell men because we are not fertile. something like that.

I find the days im ovulating im attracting the most male attention. My hair and skin are always perfect even if I dont do anything. and I find men smell me more when im ovulating. Does any body else get that?

That's funny, before I was on the pill I'd be ROASTING leading up to and during my period. I never slept well because I'd be so hot.

I don't remember being particularly horny, but I've been on the pill for 6 years so I don't remember much of those times.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,762 ✭✭✭✭stupidusername

Before I went on my pill, the day before my period used to start my granny used to always comment that I looked particularly pale. I remember quite a few times thinking 'hmmm', but after a while I made the connection, and it became my way of knowing it was going to start :)

As I am now there's one day I will get very warm, which is odd for me. I also have a very emotional day, whereby I will cry for any/no reason at all. But I'm used to it now.

I really feel the cold just before, but in the middle of the night I often wake up really hot. Disappears after a day or two in though.

does anyone else get really sensitive skin or am i just a weirdo?

inside seams, inside buttons, wash care labels all really hurt me.

Im the same with chocolate too. Even tho Im very regular my period always seems to creep up on me.

I was at this fancy do with my OH, first time Id met a good few colleagues of his at a formal event, so was trying to be all sophisticated:o. Anyway I got this mad urge for chocolate that would not go away so next thing Im sitting at the table in blissful happiness chomping away on a snack bar that I sent himself up to get at the bar. Im pretty sure I looked like a mentaller with happy glazed eyes:D:D.

Copped aftewards that it was my time of the month.

Yeh thats definitely true. I said this to a friend of mine ages ago and we started to spot it when we were on nights out. Id feel way more attractive and flirty a week or so before my period (ovulation) and would get waaay more attention. I also think about sex non stop...then couldnt care less when my period does arrive.:o

I also clean like a maniac too, no idea what that ones about at all.:D

I do, I get ridiculously sensitive and my legs always seem to be the worst! They will get very itchy, especially my shins and my ankles!

I too get very warm, I refuse to put a duvet over my when it happens! And I never get hungry when it's happening either, my tummy always feels super heavy.

ock no, I feel gross and would kill any man who dared look longingly at me :o

on a side note, huge weekend coming up... and I think I'm getting close to murderous period mode... wish there was an off button to delay these things!!!

I think it's like the nesting thing that expectant mothers go through in their final trimester, preparing their home for a baby. I'm the same- I get so emotional if there's one thing out of place, when usually I don't care.
Also, horny the WHOLE period time, which is a terrible affliction!
I read once that dogs are always a bit more "friendly" towards women who have their periods!

I read somewhere that male kangaroos can be a bit attentive at that time - which would be a bit scary, thanks anyway Skippy.:)

Someone in LL said before that having sex can help with cramps, think it was Thaedydal, and I remember thinking holy god, at that time I can just about have a conversation with my oh without biting his head off, never mind anything else:o:D. Starflower and primrose oil tablets have hugely helped tho. Id highly recommend them.

Orgasms are particularly helpful for the cramps :) It's one good way for your OH to get on your good side during that time!

    That's hilarious! :D

Sex might help with cramps and things, but I still find it yucky. I've only had sex during my period a couple of times and I felt horrible afterwards. Seeing the ... mess kind of turned my stomach :o. It is the couple of days a month that I'm not constantly in the mood, and probably the only time I'll refuse sex.

Am I really that unusual that I observe NOTHING out of the ordinary at this time of the month?

Seriously, the only reason I know I'm getting my period is that I've run out of pills! Or is that it? I'm on the pill therefore all idiosyncrasies are erased? I find all this stuff very interesting!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 701 ✭✭✭christina_x

I need my space. Like seriously, im awful.
Myn is due in the next day or two and im starting to get irritated of anybody around me. I'm angry at the minute because my flatmate has her two friends over and they are in the front room, and i know they are there and i want them to leave. completely unreasonable but...

    yes. im crazy

I've never taken the pill, and I get nothing of note to indicate that my period is on the way... I normally know when to expect it, but I'm moody all the time anyway, breasts are always tender, bloating is a constant thing, so nothing I can say that's different.... and I never, ever get period pains! Never have! About once a year or even eighteen months I get excruciating cramps that make me wonder if I've been imagining all those other monthly visits and I'm actually in labour.... I was about 20 before I ever experienced them too. But other than those six or seven times that's happened, nothing!

Something none of my friends or my mother have been able to relate to though is the day I get my period, my ankles hurt like crazy! Walking too far is out of the question and I wouldn't even think about jogging. And it's not fluid retention cause my ankles are skinny and bony all the time... it's just awful aches!

Kinda makes sense i suppose. Sometimes i think im a weirdo lining up the towels in the bathroom like a lunatic when the rest of the time theyre practically on the floor and i dont care.:D

I swear by them too, then i read a bit about "oils" over in the nutrition forum and it could be just a placebo effect.Dont care if it calms the rollercoaster emotions im happy.
Myn is due in the next day or two and im starting to get irritated of anybody around me.
Have running joke with one of my mates in work. She'll buzz me and go "im having an EPM(evening primrose moment)" and i do the same when the lads in the office are wrecking my head for no apparent reason.

God girls hormones are gas arent they?:D I feel better after reading this at least im not the only one with these hilarious idiosyncrasies.

i just thouhgt of more there.

Usually, about a week before my period i get constipated for a few days, then after that i get really bad diarrhea up until my period. I also get really crampy/achy thighs, where i just sit on the couch and rub them.
