Failing CAP2 repeats

So I think I went down on my CAP2 repeat...not 100% sure or anything just want to assess my options before D-day next week as I'll almost certainly get fired if I fail.

    I've 2 questions:

    1. If I am let go would I be entitled to any stat redundancy payment as I've been with the firm for 2+ years...or as I'm under contract do I not have any entitlement to this? (I suspect the latter)

    2. Does anyone know the proceedures for switching to ACCA - I've passed 3 of 4 CAP2s..just failed the Auditing...I know they have exams in December - do ye think it would be possible for me to sit the f8 exam (essentially the ACCA equivalent of our auditing exam)? I'm probably cutting it a bit tight with applications etc....not sure if I even have it correct regarding exemptions from other subjects!

Any advice would be muchos appreciated!

Listen im in the same boat, don't worry about it until the 24th.

    You still could of passed.

I think you just need to reg with the acca through there website before dec 31st with a transcript of all of your results along with the fee

not a penny as it is a training contract unfortunately

signing up for ACCA is reasonably straight forward, just make sure to be registered by mid Dec so that you can sit the exams in june.

It's too late to register for December ACCA exams. Closing date for late apps. was the 8th of November

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,297 ✭✭✭kitten_k

How much would the fee be for an Acca exam?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,020 ✭✭✭ianuss

Ordinarily it's £69 per subject. Late fees are £110 per subject + the £69.

you have to register for the exams, but you also have to register as a student and provide all the transcripts from the ICAI. the deadline for the december exams was in august to register as a ACCA student AFAIK

Im waiting for my results on friday by the way....

Ok this is from the ACCA website. If you pass all of CAP1 and CAP2 then you are exempt from all the fundamentals (F papers). If you only passed some of the exams the exemptions are as Ive noted below. But also note that you should send in your college results aswell as you might have gained exemptions in ACCA from your college results that you would not have been given in ACA (this happend to a friend of mine)

    Exemptions as follows.....

    Paper(s)Accredited Modules
F2 Management Accounting on the basis of MGMT ACCOUNTING (CAP1)

F3 Financial Accounting on the basis of FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING (CAP1)

F5 Performance Management on the basis of STRATEGIC FINANCE AND MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING (CAP2)

F6 Taxation on the basis of TAXATION I (CAP1) PLUS TAXATION II (CAP2)

F7 Financial Reporting on the basis of FINANCIAL REPORTING (CAP2)

F8 Audit and Assurance on the basis of AUDIT AND ASSURANCE (CAP2) PLUS AUDIT AND ASSURANCE (CAP2)

F9 Financial Management on the basis of FINANCE (CAP1)

    Ps..... good luck next week!

Does anyone know if you pass the ACCA and apply to the ACA you get full exemptions, there's just a small fee involved.

I know if you get the ACA and apply to do the ACCA you have to do a few exams

Id say 7am like the rest of the results, not too hopefull of passing all but hope im at least on the credit list and then be able to repeat next summer.

I'm not feeling too confident about them either!

    if u think u did sh1t, u probably did.

if u think u did well, anything could happen.

if ur not too sure, u probably failed but might have scraped a pass...

that was the trend i noticed from the first sitting.

iv been kidding myself that theres a small chance i passed sfma but if im being honest, that chance is about 0.1% (ie im 99.9% sure i failed it)

i thought the other 3 went well-ish but im preparing for fails because u never know. cant be arsed doing a year of fae now anyway so 2 or 3 passes and il be content.

Not excited about getting them, not dreading getting them, not looking forward to them, not afraid of them, all in all at this stage I just couldn't give a toss about them. The last year has stopped all interest/nervousness/hope...

R0N summed it up perfectly in the first three lines above.

    Passed. wooo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 285 ✭✭so_bored.com

    was on the credit list.

does anyone know what happens now with repeating and accessing notes etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭R0N BURGUNDY

passed tax 57% and financial reporting 60% = happy days

failed sfma (no surprise) and auditing (bit surprised tbh!)

81% passed auditing too and i thought i did better in it than the rest of them but just goes to show. i should probably get some feedback on my script because i must be doing something wrong that i dont even realise.

47 in financial, doubt ill appeal, its very unusual that the institute will reverse a decision. But 44% pass rate is a bit of a joke! Its still a joke of a subject even with the new examiner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭R0N BURGUNDY

has anyone ever heard of an appeal in icai having any effect?

the first financial was pure bonkers but thought the second one was alot more do-able. but the problem was that they were taking u from one sort of style and throwing u completely the other way with a completely different style exam with no warning which i assume must have thrown alot of people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 285 ✭✭so_bored.com

Can an appeal only be made for extenuating circumstances?
or can you pay for a general remark?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 133 ✭✭RT2010

Passed Tax and Audit but barely went down in FR with 47!

Happy to get 2 out of the way but when your that close to passing its a pain in the a**e. Dont think theres any point in appealing unless your on 49 and fairly certain you should have done better. Havent really heard of anybody getting a result overturned.

People still thinking of switching to other bodies or gonna stick it out with the institute?

At least thee'll be more past papers/notes etc if we hopefully get around to doing the new FAE's.

I know two people who have had successful appeals in the past. You need to be able to show that you attended lectures (and prob performed well in continuous assessment for the new syllabus).

Go review your paper and try to bring a qualified person who knows their stuff with you. Take notes of every area where you think you should have been awarded better marks and then write as good an appeal letter as you can addressing all of the above points and stressing that you deserve to pass...

    Best of luck!!

what kind of timeframe does it entail captain oats? When would he hear and that? there is not to much info on website.

i think i know the two people you are talking about Captain Oats :)

A girl i work with appealed the old FAE and got it. She was three marks short overall. In our old course you could compensate so you needed 200 from the four exams. So going on that basis, appealing with a 47 or even a 46 is plausible. As Captaim Oats said, you need to write a letter outlining why you believe you should pass...as in going through each question point by point and say i said "xyz" which was not on the model solution but is still relevant and i should deserve one mark here. By going through the paper and solution with a fine comb, you may be able to find some marks you feel you deserve. I think when it comes to auditing, this is certainly one to look at as i always thought those model solutions were a bit crap and other points would be valid. But of course it is at the discretion of the examiner and i have heard of appeals that have not been successful. If you are borderline, it may be worth the couple of quid to appeal. Oh and to top it off....you dont get all your money back if your appeal is successful, they charge you an administration fee!

The appeal result can take quite a while. Think she was waiting around four or five months...joke i know!

    Hi,

Sorry if posting on the wrong thread here.

I am currently a modular student sitting CAP1 Mgmt and CAP2 Tax & Audit.
Would anyone know if I can sit SFMA & Auditing in Autumn provided the 3 modules I am doing now are completed in Summer??

I understand these are tough subjects and the pass rates are quite low but just wanted to check out as it could hypothetically cut a year off my Training Contract.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

The answer is no I'm afraid. The course you are doing for this year is the Straddle option so you will have to do the other two CAP2's in the next academic year i.e. 2011/2012. It's just the way the course is designed.
