if you have never tried it, then give it a go, a nice heaped tea spoon into a cup and pour on boiling water, on a cold day/night nothing is better. now that the winter is upon us, I'm going to live on the stuff :D

    Warm beef drink?
That's stew to me with meat & veg.
Basically a dinner I can get two days out. Stew is always nicer on the second day.

There wasn't a 'It gets me hard' option so I just went with 'I love it'.

Some people use Bovril like a spread & eat it on bread or toast.

    The sick fucks.

Marmite is a yeast extract & Bovril is a meat extract.

Hate that stuff, it is still around? Takes me right back to when I was a child, can smell it now, feel sick.

I had this every day for my lunch for about 2 yrs at school, my mother was the teacher of the particular class I was in and in order not to show any favouritism I had to sit at the back of the class each day for lunch while she sat at her desk. She used to bring flask of boiling water and make me cup of that awful stuff to have with my sandwiches, I can see the scene again now, can picture the classroom, can smell the bovril, more than 40 odd yrs later!

Eh, would this not just be like drinking gravy?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,739 ✭✭✭✭starbelgrade

I wouldn't drink it, but it makes a great beef stock for stews & mince based dishes like ragus, shephards pie & chilli con carne. Lovely in a Guinness pie too.

Hate it. When my granny was in hospital before she died, my relatives kept having cups of this so the smell reminds me of death.

    I love meat.

But I dont like it when they (the food puppeteers) try to turn meat into a snack, like meat in a cup (Bovril) or 'Jerky' (meat chewin' gum)

Leave meat alone!!! It's perfect as it is. In meat form.

I like bovril, i drink it occasionally..... especially in this weather. I've recently come across some people(under 20yo) who had never heard of it. is it just me? is there a legion of bovril drinkers out there? I always loved it when i was a kid with a few cream crackers and butter for supper!:)

I use it as a beef stock. It's miles better than most stock cubes.

    Wouldn't drink the stuff though.

my da was big into it. don't seem to see it around in the shops much these days, so have never really gotten around to getting into it.

Would be a good warming up drink these days alright... but sure... Whiskey does me fine too.

I can never beleive that some people have never had it, I'm 19 and love it although I don't have it very often but there is always a jar of it in the house, I love when there is a bit left on the spoon and having that!
