Are you saying we should be more like Norway, because without point 1, which we don't and never did have (to the scale of the Norwegians),
the rest would be quite damaging to the country.

No my point is that they seem to have managed their affairs very well. Yes they have resources which is a massive help but I admire how they have benefited the entire country from this and not just an elite few

Norway has more Oil than Saudi. They have a Sovereign wealth fund larger than Chinas. They have far more cash than they even know what to do with.

Comparisons to Ireland are completely meaningless.

Another mad thing I learned about them is that you can go online to a government website and put in your neighbours Name and look up how much they earn, how much tax they paid in the year, and any benefits they are getting!

    Its completely transparent!

Also, discussing what you earn isnt a taboo subject!

Its a bit of a contrast to Ireland alright. How would we cope with no brown envelopes and the 'say notin till you hear more' lads we have

    "Norway! Land of difficult spelling.
Hiding your beauty behind strange vowels.
Land of long nights, short days, and dots over 'O's.
    Ruminating majestic reindeers
    Tread wearily on ice floes
Ever aware of what happened to the Titanic
One day I will sjourn to your shores
I live in the midle of England
    But!
Norway! My soul resides in your watery fiords fyords fiiords .... Inlets."

I was dating a girl from Norway for almost two years and we were looking at moving there, although my heart wasnt really in it (It was the boom times:rolleyes:), I wouldnt have had to pay tax for the 1st 4 years! 4 Years! Her Cousins boyfriend from england was working as a waiter there and was in his final year of not having to pay tax.

    Major incentive!

    are you sure about this...

Why are we such idiots in this country. And elect such a corrupt shower of **** to run it

    Take Norway

    1. They have natural resourses, they are lucky but they use them wisely, to benefit the entire country for generations. I think we had some but Bertie sold them to Shell
    2. Its expensive in Norway, the wages are high but they do not have booms and busts like we just had, tight fiscal policy
    3. Property is expensive: Its also built to a very high standard , which is a national standard. No dodgy developers throwing up cheap crap there. So what if its cold if ur house is warm
    4. They stayed out of the EU, so now they dont have to pay for the likes of us now with bailouts, and Greece etc
    5. They have a strong immigration policy so they might not let me in :(

Are you mad?Do you not know what Norwegians are like?Take a good look.Is this the Ireland you dream of?

As a Christmas gift to the people, no-one pays income tax during the month of December.

I think we should do that next month :)

My friend lived in Trondheim Norway for a while and loved it. He said the people are a bit cautious of strangers but once they get to know you, they are the best ever, like the Irish, they like their drink!
Services are first class, education, heallth best in world. They are very patriotic and proud to be Norweigan and they expect their public representitives to be beyond reproach
He also said the women were stunning

I don't trust the fúcking Norwegians. They're only three or four generations removed from real live vikings. I can't get past the idea that their perfect socially just society is some kind of trick and they're all going to throw off the trappings of civilization and come screaming down again wielding axes and swords. :(

    I dont trust you either:D

That is one weird looking lion, :)
I guess thats what happens when an animal that normally lives in the tropics moves to a country that is freezing cold and dark for half the year, and probably living off nothing but herring. :D

Norway where your bandmates take pictures of your decaying corpse that you created by blowing your brains onto the settee and using it as an album cover. Norway.

Actually, if you're an EEA national you have an automatic right of residence in Normally for up to three months unconditionally, longer than three months if you're employed, self-employed, studying or financially self-sufficient.

Norway has one of the highest suicide rate in Europe and there are plenty of immigrants, they just don't mind them as the job market is huge.

What you, Irish folk might dislike about it is partial prohibition. Off licences close at 4pm and don't open on weekends if I'm not mistaken. Also, the staff is instructed to talk you out of buying high percentage alcohol and suggest something lighter. If you're thinking of producing your own booze, police will be notified if you buy too much sugar in shops :)

Norway is beautiful, the scenery is breathtaking but, unless you live in a city, you're like a hermit. A vocalist of a Norwegian black metal band whose name I have forgotten, once admitted that up to the age of 18 he had seen no more than 5 people in his life: his parents, 2 classmates and a shop owner. Not my idea of fun...

A lot of norwegians have bought property on the Costa Blanca because the cost of living is far cheaper. They even supply the town of Torrevieja with a huge Christmas tree every year.

Are you sure you are not confusing them with the Westies?
