The game concept is fine except for RC Cars(+ Ghost IMHO, will always be a pet hate of mine). But in essence the game is broken for sure.. it definitely is on PS3 anyway and I can't see it being fixed. Must be said that when you play on your own or with one other person it's grand, at least in my experience anyway.

    IMO :

Absolutely nothing, when used with an anti-air class.

Definitely something wrong when you're camping in a quiet corner for yourself pointing a silenced (usually ak74u) gun at the nearest high traffic enterance.

And sadly it's usually the latter that people come across.

The games broken because of connection and frame rate issues on the PS3, unlike in MW2 where overpowered perks and guns and unfixed glitches were the problem. I've always stood by my opinion that the CoD series has jack **** on the older PC shooters, valve are 10 times better than both IW + Treyarch when it comes to both execution and community updates for FPS games and even they havent produced the perfect game(Tho... they've come pretty ****ing close :D )

Agreed....I went back to MW2 the other night and came in my pants when I heard the gunfire ;) audio miles better than black ops..

Definitely, hearing that sweet sound of a teammates ac-130 raining armageddon down on a spawn trapped team, aural sex :pac:

I was one of them, I applaud Treyarch for trying to fix what was broken with MW2, but they've included just as many dumb things, 2nd Chance being the biggest one, utterly, utterly pointless perk that only exists to piss people off, i saw a guys killcam as he shot me in it the othe night, he had the pistol out and 3 shots fired befire i even realised he was in it, ludicrous

So I have earned 150,000 cod points this prestige and end up spending a max of 20,000. The points system just doesn't work I feel-it's just too easy, It would be cool to pay 100,000 for a playercard to make it kind of rarer to see but yet they cost barley anything. I have bought all emeblems, flags etc. Treyarch could have thought this out better

    Finally got to play Black Ops a few days ago so I'll give my opinion on it thus far;

    Wow...totally underwhelmed. :(

I mean that in the most disappointed state one could possibly feel about a video game. I really, really wanted to LOVE this edition and I really, really tried but wow - I mean, wow.

The first thing I jumped at was online. First few games where okay - no lag complaints, everything working fine here. It's just the gameplay though...it feels so "rehearsed". MW2 had a certain 'pizzaz' about it, a specific spark that is absent here. There is literally no atmosphere during the battles. It's just like going through the motions - you spawn, you die, you spawn behind another guy, he dies, he spawns behind you etc etc into one frustrating and tiresome cycle.

I don't mean to be a spoil-sport but it all feels a little, wait for it.....*whisper*...boring. The maps are all similar too. Yes, a snow map, a jungle map and a rocket launch pad are all fine but in the middle of these there are about 10 bland and idea-less factory maps. There is virtually no personality to any map that distinguishes them apart from the others.

The Wager Modes are a great additions, as well as Zombies.

But Treyarch undone themselves with this title I think. Now, I know WW2 has been done to death at this stage and a proper Vietnam shooter was definitely on the cards but that is exactly what this is not. The story in the campaign mode (finished it in one sitting - very short), seems like it has been taken right out of a James Bond book and little has to do with actual front line war, which is what defines the Call of Duty franchise and has made it what it is today.

    It's all very confusing.

Out of the many levels, I think I actually enjoyed about two or three of them such was the repetitiveness from other CoD games of past years - you know, stealth, shoot endless enemies that let you walk by and stand there until you go back and kill them, shock horror cutscene followed by manning a turret and holding back pursuers.

All in all, I think Infinity Ward hit the nail on the head with Modern Warfare2 with regards to what direction the brand should be taken in. I would have settled for a 100% multi-player experience as it feels like that was just an afterthought. Too much attention to customisation was a sacrifice to addictive and long-term playability in my book because I don't see myself turning on the Xbox to play a session of this six months down the road which is wholly disappointing.

I completely agree, theres what, 4 snow based maps in Blops? Summit, WMD, Array and Grid. Then theres the Cuba based ones, Havana, Crisis, Villa and Firing Range. The Vietnam maps are Cracked and Hanoi, and Nuketown is the oddball one, and the most fun. Theres only 4 "looks" to a map on this game, compared to the differences between Rust, Highrise, Terminal, Afghan and Derail to name but a few on MW2, theres a good mix overall.

Agree as well about there being no spark in the battles, the atrocious lack of sound outside of whats going on right in front of you being one of the biggest reasons, if you stand still on any map on MW2 the sound from off the map can be heard clear as day, from random gunfire to explosions, and thats not even counting whats going on in the map, you felt like you were in a bigger battle, stand still on a map on Blops and you can barely hear your teammates gunfire in the next building, its complete silence a lot of the time, appalling sound for an AAA title franchise game, how it made it past quality control is beyond me.

I've said this in game to a few of the lads one night on here but the sounds of the choppers overhead in blops sounds like a sheet of paper stuck in a printer, seriously listen out for it, this low, nondescript bleeeehhhhhh sound. compared to the ball shaking whirr of the chopper gunner blades in MW2, and the deafening AC-130, man the sound design in that game is beautiful to listen to.

And hey, dont forget about the best sound of all... the constant sound of a million noobtubes... honestly.... i love it... phfreeeettt..... booom...... phfreeeet..... booom....... phfreeettt.... booom

Map wise.. i really dont see how people think the maps are similar in looks..... How exactly does firing range look similar to crisis or grid look similar to array.. because they have snow ? :D I suppose jungle looks similar to nuketown.. because they both have some grass lol.

I understand some people dont like the maps, but really.. i think they're great, bar the one or two i dont like.

You and me share a lot of similar opinions re: BOPS and I do agree with ya more or less pointing out the ridiculousness in the comments of pro-MW2 fans be it in the post you quoted here or elsewhere.

But personally I do prefer the MW2 maps.. and if you remember I did dislike the majority of them pre-BOPS :pac:

In saying that, Hanoi and Crisis are the ones that really bother me. Hanoi more so due to the look and Crisis because it's unbalanced. In short Crisis feels like a cluster**** of a map in that they didn't know which way to go. I guess you can give them some props for going with two very contrasting(or unbalanced) halves. It's different I will say that.

The snow map argument is tedious to read. Forget the snow for a sec and look at it structurally. They are all very good. Ok, Array has one area in particular that seems to be a waste(the area left of the antenna) but otherwise the maps themselves cannot be faulted.

The rest are built structurally sound and balanced, but for the spawn points on some maps(Nuketown and Havana, the latter with the fountain/statue spawn).

Oh I'm not saying the maps in Blops are bad,I love Grid, Nuketown,Havana and Summit, I think theyre some of the best maps on any CoD game, just that there could have been more variety in them.
I still cant decide whether I prefer MW2 or Blops, if someone managed to make a game that looked and sounded like MW2 and played like Blops then itd be amazing, I do have more fun playing MW2 lately, theres less noobtubing, actually hardly any some nights, and most of the annoying kids have moved onto Blops. The amount of 2nd Chance users in Blops is ridiculous though, its every second person you kill now it seems.

i just played a game of demolition on nuketown and about
4 minutes into it it goes all laggy and there was 2 or 3 host migrations, after another minute of lag or so where i couldn't really move or do much the game continued, only i was invincible, i couldn't kill anyone and nobody could kill me, my team mates were OK and so the enemy i seemed to be the only one that was invincible, it was hilarious running into the enemy's bomb site and standing there while they were just stabbing me and throwing grenades and pumping their magazines into me id gave anything to seen their faces. has anyone else had this problem or experienced this?

BTW how do you upload your file share's to youtube?

People posting about lag and server issues, I would assume this is on PS3? I've played both and to be fair, XBOX is much much much much better for online play than the PS3. I play on PS3 in a mates, and its tough to get through full games for the lag and disconnection. Highly frustrating but only gripe with the game.

Yeah it seems like thats the case, the game just wasnt coded well for the PS3... just seems like a very dodgy port. MS might have actually got some new customers this year because of it... too bad the only things they have going for them this year is CoD and Gears.

Being able to play one of the biggest games of the year online properly, will probably be a big enough draw to keep them happy.

That and Forza 4 coming out, after the big fail that seems to have been GT5.

    Halo :p

I couldn't get into Gears. But probably it's same reason I couldn't get into Halo(and Killzone), the whole futuristic FPS thing ain't my thang.

Perfect Dark on the N64, Portal and Half Life is the only games that were of the exception that I can think of.

Have to say the ads behind Gears were simply brilliant.

If they added a 3-4 second delay before which those cretins couldn't shoot it'd make it alot better..

I've only ever used it to get SC Pro

Disclaimer:This isn't meant to be trolling, or an attempt to ignite some kind of BF vs. CoD flamewar, it's just meant for illustrative purposes:

The below is a screenshot of the Hill 137 map on BF BC2 Vietnam:

    bfbc2game20101219001407.th.jpg

The blue triangles are friendlies at the top of the hill attempting to plant C4 charges on Vietcong/NVA objectives.

The map has scale, ambition, impressive imagery, atmosphere. Everything that's lacking from BOps and its maps.

Despite the massive earnings, IW are gone, Treyarch aren't taking the franchise anywhere other than to do little more than reskin old content, and the entire CoD franchise seems like a bubble that's going to burst. Maybe it's time for a MoH reboot and a new engine to go with it.

But the new MoH was awful :pac:

I agree theres no atmospere in the Blops maps though, compared to say, Wasteland on MW2, which I loved, probably my fave map, along with Terminal.

A graphics reboot is in order though, they're still using the MW1 engine, which is 4 years old now. If they dont want CoD to just become the FIFA of fps games and churning out the same game every year with some new additions, but then if you change too much it wont be CoD anymore, tough place for a developer to be in.
