question. why does everyone have a hard-on for Chic at the moment? I don't get it, theyre a 70s cheesy disco setup with a lead guitarist that's getting huge press at the moment for his girlfriend. Am I missing something?

Great tunes, great band. Amazing live.

Meh. Might as well throw in Earth, Wind and fire in there along with the other 70s disco. Slim pickings if they need to be that far up the bill

Nile Rodgers getting huge press for his girlfriend? Who the **** is she? I just care about his funky rhythm guitar parts and damn are they good.

A nice diagram showing the links between some well-known indie and alternative artists.

I've always preferred Modeselektor and Apparat but I'll be giving it a listen I'm sure.

Don't want to start a new thread. I will be in Dublin on Friday and would like to know where would be the best stores to purchase vinyl please?

Some of the Dubs might know more but the places I usually go are Freebird (located in The Secret Book & Record Store on Wicklow St.), Spindizzy (located in George's Street Arcade), The Rage (on Fade St.) and Tower Records (Wicklow St and top floor of Easons on O'Connell St.). If you want new releases Tower on Wicklow St. stock a big selection, for second hand try Freebird and Spindizzy.

Because they're touring a lot, getting a lot of airplay, press inches etc.

Am I the only one that thought the song Ca Plane Pour Moi by Plastic Bertard had the words 'Sonic Youth in it? listen at 40 seconds

And when Sonic Youth http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gdf5h2NX4xQ"]covered[/URL] the song it just reinforced my thoughts

Turns out the lyrics are "son igloo."
Quiet disappointed, always thought it was cool to have them referenced and then SY to cover the song.

And also recently someont told me that They Might Be Giants didn't write "istanbul, not constantinople". That was like telling me the Easter Bunny doesn't exist....

But then The Pixies release a new song and now EP so I'm happy again.

If the media say they're good, then so be it I guess!

Not so. Good band, meant to be excellent live, get the crowd all dancing and happy (without drugs).

Re the media- if a good band doesn’t get airplay the ‘general masses’ won’t be aware of the band. If band gets airplay, general masses are aware of them, buy/download their material, band goes into charts, people request songs on radio. Their status grows exponentially

Been listening to it since yesterday. One or two dud tracks on it but otherwise a solid debut. Not quite sure whether I prefer the new versions of The Mother We Share and Lies to the original versions but they're still fantastic tunes.

4 Irish dates for 65daysofstatic. Really looking forward to this. Wild Light is probably my album of the year.

    Jan 15 Cyprus Avenue Cork,
    Jan 16 Dolan's Limerick,
    Jan 17 Roisin Dubh Galway,
    Jan 18 Button Factory

Should be great gigs, and don't forget the ear-plugs.....

It's a very good debut. Some great melodies, some interesting beats, just very good electro pop in general. Have been thoroughly enjoying it this last week.

I've a friend who's 16, looks older. What are the odds of him getting into an over-18s at Vicar Street?

    Highly unlikely.
