BMW 2007 under warrenty can I return?

    Hi,
    I bought a BMW 318i 07 for 18K plus my old 00 bmw (for 2k) in Feb.
from a well respected BMW dealer in Dublin.

It's been into my local BMW garage twice in the last month with engine problems.
3 Induction coils and 2 fuel injectors replaced - all under warrenty.
Now for the third time in about a month the engine is giving the same problem.
Last time I had the red engine light - "Engine Malfunction"
Now again I have the Yellow engine light - "Full engine power is no longer available"
I got a BMW 1 year warrenty with it, until feb...
    This is unacceptable.
Can I demand my money back?

    Any advice appriciated.

Sounds to me like the problem was mis-diagnosed.
Did you bring the car back to the original dealer in Dublin for them to examine it?

    Thanks for replying.

No, I'm going to call original garage tomorrow and see what they say...

You would have to be back to original garage a few times and after a reasonable amount of attempts usually 5-6 ish you can usually demand your money back or a different car

You are entitled to repair, replacement or refund.

One piece of critical advice. DO NOT leave it too late.

My Uncle got stung badly years ago with a similar problem. Garage tagged him along, eventually the warranty ran out. Tried everything even solicitor's letters. No good. He rang the Irish consumers number and after loads of calls was told he should have reported and acted earlier.

Not sure how accurate this info was, but its an example of worst case scenario. No harm to seek legal "advice" just to see where you stand if the garage takes a "hard stance".

Indeed, the initial problem should be reported to the original dealer in a "reasonable timeframe".

Thanks to all of you for replying.

The original garage is Murphy and Gunne in Dublin, I will call them and ask to speak to the manager. Hopefully they will al least fix it properly.

I brought it twice to Barry BMW in Galway and it's still got the same problem.

Is there any point going to a 3rd party garage and getting a print-out of what's wrong with it (for 50 Euro) and bringing that with me?

I'd bring it straight to the original dealer and let them diagnose it from scratch, no need for you to be further out of pocket. They'll no doubt contact the other garage anyways.

The OP has a BMW warranty. This means that any approved BMW service centre can investigate and repair under warranty. So he was quite right using his local BMW dealer.
However since they have not resolved the problem and he might have to look for other redress he is right in bringing it back to the BMW dealer who sold it to him.
OP let us know how you get on.

Try and see if you can get the car changed for something else, the petrol engines have been a disaster ever since BMW fitted them with "Efficient Dynamics". The only thing they are efficient at is going through injectors and coil packs at a rate of knots.

Get a diesel 3 series, or something else that actually works.

No point at all. I'm no mechanic, but I'm pretty sure I can diagnose the issues.

Late 2007 model with the Stop/Start Effecient Dynamics gubbins?

It's a Lemon, like every single bloody petrol engined BMW of the same vintage we have on fleet. Will eventually have numerous Injectors replaced, but that won't solve the issue (we've had at least 13 replaced in a 523 and it's still a sh1t heap).

If you can reject it back to the BMW dealer, do - it will never be right.

Are the newer ED petrol models any better, or are they all equally bad?

BMW are still selling Petrol models?????????????????

Last Petrol BMW I ordered was a 320i that was delivered in Aug 08. It's the one my Father in law now has, and he's had the NOX sensor issue (20,000km) that seems to be the start of all the issues.

@R.O.R. I read on a E90 website exactly what your saying. It's going back to BMW on Saturday and they will replace a few things... most likely coils and injectors and then it will work for a while...until next time...
