A girl of 10 has had a baby in southern Spain.

Social workers are deciding whether to let the mother and her family retain custody of the baby, born last week in the city of Jerez de la Frontera.

Micaela Navarro, the Andalusia region’s social affairs minister, said that the father of the baby was also a child.

She refused to give further details, such as the sex or health of the baby.

Spanish newspapers said the mother is of Romanian origin.

The daily Diario de Jerez quoted medical staff who treated the girl as saying they were told by her mother that giving birth at such a young age was common in their country.

So when the Mother is 20, the Child will be 10 that's very very odd. Can't believe that is even possible.

Couldn't give a rats about culture or anything, it's just wrong.

Then you, sir, are worse than Hitler!

    *slap*

It's their traditition for babies to give birth to babies. Usually it's a good luck charm if you become a grandfather before your 6th birthday. :pac:

It is pretty twisted stuff, though.

Reminds me of this one ...

Little Bruce And Jenny Are Only 10 Years Old
But they know they are in love.
One day they decide that they want to get married,
so Bruce goes to Jenny's father to ask him for her hand.

Bruce bravely walks up to him and says,
'Mr. Smith, me and Jenny are in love and
I want to ask you for her hand in marriage.'

Thinking that this was just the cutest thing,
Mr. Smith replies, 'Well Bruce, you are only 10.
    Where will you two live?'

Without even taking a moment to think about it,
    Bruce replies, 'In Jenny's room.
It's bigger than mine and we can both fit there nicely.'

Still thinking this is just adorable,
Mr. Smith says with a huge grin,
'Okay then how will you live?
You're not old enough to get a job.
    You'll need to support Jenny

    Again, Bruce instantly replies,
'Our allowance. Jenny gets five bucks a week
    and I get 10 bucks a week.
That's about 60 bucks a month and that should do us just fine.'

Mr. Smith is impressed Bruce has put so much thought into this.
'Well Bruce, it seems like you have everything figured out.
I just have one more question.
What will you do if the two of you
should have little ones of your own?'

Bruce just shrugs his shoulders and says,
'Well, we've been lucky so far.'

Mr. Smith no longer thinks the little sh*t is adorable.

It's not unusual amoungst Roma's apparently. Bit like Travellers getting married very young. Irish people voting for Fianna Fail constantly & then moaning about it.
Culture I think they call it.

Dog/cat? What? Logic should tell you that an animal that can breed when it's two isn't going to have a five year old as the recorded youngest, no?

Well....when a boy and a girl love each other very much they do this "special hug" that results in both making weird animal noises. Then when they're both finished the boy will cry and the girl will steal his wallet.

Didn't they teach you anything in school?

I would have thought that the conceiving of the child is what's not right.. don't think how it's delivered is important really

This happens more often than you'd think. I remember hearing about a 9 yo in Thailand giving birth a few years ago

No, I think people are just looking for even more reasons to bash Roma people. It seems to be the thing to do on these forums and it's getting tedious. Actually, the minority bashing in general is starting to wear thin. This is public forum, it's not a haven for racism and bigotry. Stormfront and the EDL forums are --->.

A ten year old is going to break their pelvis giving birth!

There are cases of precocious puberty which can often allow such births to take place, quite naturally, unless they are quite small, which is often the case.

Could a baby grow to what is considered a normal size given the fact that the mother is still in the early stages of development? I would have thought that it was impossible for an unborn child to outgrow its mother, so to speak

I would wonder what would have happned a similar aged girl back hundreds of years ago before CS and any other surgical intervention. I presume both the mother and baby would have dies during child birth.

Never mind ten year olds, some child births can take a lot out of and damage older women.

The child of Lina Medina, the youngest mother on record was a reported 6lb odd at birth which although small, isn't too far off a normal birth weight...she required a section despite a widened pelvis as she was so small.

Other cases here; be prepared to be disturbed...

Just wondering as their age of consent is 13.

This thread is a discussion about a 10-year old girl having a child, race or ethnicity have absolutely nothing to do with it. There are stories similar to this from many different races or ethnic groups. If you wanna have a discussion on ethnic traditions of the Roma you should probably start a new thread.

But it does when the kids mother said it was common in her culture.

Certainly not common in most cultures. Therefore people are curious.

You don't get to impose limits on this discussion. This discussion has not centred around the alleged ethnicity of the mother - it was simply mentioned. Curiosity about that aspect of this story and it's context is perfectly legitimate and perfectly within the limits of a normal conversation.

Spain is actually way down on the list. This is only for 15-19 year olds from 2002 but it's probably the same for under 15s.
