Just came across this video, this famous american singer bought a bear and kept it in a 1 acre electrified enclosure, then video taped himself as a brave hunter going after the bear........What an idiot

This is a rather disturbing example of "canned" hunting which thankfully has been banned in most civilized countries

    *cough*DickCheney*cough*

And yeah, the commentator's smug, but if that's a tame bear in a fenced-in enclosure, then the idiot with the bow is far worse.

This happened over 4 years ago. Troy Gentry got $15,000 fine and a ban on all fishing and hunting for 5 years (nearly up now). Also had to turn over fur from bear and any other "trophies".

Lee greenly was facing much steeper charges as he has previous convictions for the same crap. $400,000 fine, loss of animals and vehicles, possible loss of lands. Not sure of the exact details, but also he was looking at 5 years for each offence.

Don't get me wrong its a terrible thing to see, and the both men got off FAR too lightly for my liking, but it happened years ago and its not hunting in ANY aspect of the word.

Everything about that video, the footage and the commentary, is sickening. Christ, it's difficult to believe anyone would hunt bear with a bow (Personally I've no time for it for hunting anything at all); what a cruel bastard.

Yep it happened a while ago, but the video was supposedly only released on oct 25th 2010 - according to liveleak.com that is !

    Put it another way.
Ignoring the two idiots and the canned hunt,if it could even be called that .Bow hunting IMHO is one of the hardest types of hunting there is.Would there be many of us here who would chance stalking a grizzly in Alaska with a compound bow?Or a moose? On the ground without a tree stand? It has been done and effectively so.Considering the American Indians also hunted withbow and arrow long before they had um pale faces fire pole, and their yokes were not high tech compound bows.:pac:
All the skills of the hunter come to play 100% more than with a firearm. Its a hard one to explain, but done right it is as effective as using a firearm, but not for everyone, and certainly that kind of malarky does it no favours at all.

True. I think the date stamp on the Youtube video was the 24th of this month.

Just a personal curiosity as to why 4 years later they release the video. Was it evidence until now? Did they do a Micheal Moore on it?

Not doubting the men did kill the bear, but why drag it up 4 years later. There has to be an angle somewhere.

    Me. Paranoid. Much. :D

Nope ezridax, you're not being paranoid, the video was being held onto by the US government - for evidence I presume but SHARK won their lawsuit to get the video released a couple of days ago and released it onto lots of various websites in an effort to further blacken Troy Gentrys already scarred reputation.....Looks like SHARK are hell bent on ruining this guys career one way or another

Those two, Greenly and Gentry, are the lowest of the basest kind of scum out there.

That's one of the most disgusting and despicable things I've seen in a while. The two of them should have been given a wee taste of their own medicine, the f**kin' evil lying cowardly bastards.

    Good!

In this particular case, more power to their elbow! The c**ts!

I would consider myself a keen and avid hunter. I have never shot for commercial purposes or as some would say "the love of the kill". I shoot only what i need/have to.

My reason for the above statement is this. I have made my feelings on certain hunting types very clear. Big cat, seal clubbing, etc. This is not hunting (IMO) and i would never condone it. I know we all say we should support other sports whether we agree with them or not, but honestly i cannot do it when it comes to these things.

This so called hunting of the bear by a "man" that needed to do this to feel "macho" is sickening to me. While i debate most every point of hunting with any anti that cared to debate it i would have to cede on this video and point. So if the courts cannot do enough harm/punishment to these "men" then any outside influence is welcomed. The only thing these "men" will understand is the loss of money/career. That will hurt them more than any fine they could easily afford anyway.

I hesitated before posting this as i was unsure how it would read or come across, but i hope you all get the idea/message.

    Loud and Clear, Ezridax.

What those two f*ckwits were doing has NOTHING to do with Sport or Hunting in any shape or form!
I know we all say we should support other sports whether we agree with them or not, but honestly i cannot do it when it comes to these things.

Yes, support other Fieldsports and Hunting pursuits - but since this cannot be considered Hunting in any way, shape, or form, there's no need to support it and IMO this sh1t is unsupportable.

All hunters, of any and all types and persuasions, should be horrified by that sort of carry-on. That this sort of activity could possibly be, in any way, considered to be related to Hunting is what should concern conscientious hunters. So, I'm glad to see that pretty much everyone posting so far seems to abhored by this.
The only thing these "men" will understand is the loss of money/career. That will hurt them more than any fine they could easily afford anyway.

Oh, I could think of one or two things that would hurt them a good bit more ;)

dCorbus,I dont know why you quoted my saying about that singers already scarred reputation etc etc, hope you dont think I'm standing up for what the W....R done, its the complete opposite, I hope this guys career and financials get a major hit for what he done....just wanted to make that clear in case you thought I was in any way standing up for this kind of s.h.i.t

Hey vix, no explanation needed at all on my account.

I wasn't taking you up that way at all. I only quoted your statement to indicate that I thought that that was the minimum amount of damage that could / should be done to those two.

    Edit:
Just to clarify something here myself: I'm not a Hunter. So in fairness, this:
All hunters, of any and all types and persuasions, should be horrified by that sort of carry-on.
    Should really be read as:
All People, of any and all types and persuasions, should be horrified by that sort of carry-on.

Dial that back please, and read the full thread. Noone thinks that what was done was anything less than disgraceful, and all of the posters so far share the youtube commentator's feelings about the incident. They just don't like the youtube commentator either. The world is more complicated than a game of checkers and it's possible to dislike equally two people who don't agree with each other.

No, because he's a vitriolic twat. I mean, I have absolutely no sympathy for Gentry and am disgusted and think he should have been imprisoned, but the commentator is quite clearly a tool, with connections to completely ignorant sites like huntersrapenature.com, a wonderful example of whose clearly thought out logic and strong reasoning can be found here.

I know everyone can read the forum...you're obviously taking up sumtin wrong somewhere along the line, or maybe you just like to row for no apparent reason ? So tell me what your point to me is ?

i remember seeing a video of an american "hunter" that was on boar/pig farm. he basiclly walked up to a tame boar/pig and blew its brains out with a dirty harry handgun. thats what he called hunting.

thats not hunting, its killing. no different to buying a dog letting in run about your garden and killing it.
no hunter wether they be a bow hunter, gun hunter or dog hunter would consider whats on that clip as sport.

Exactly - this type of sh*t will be used by the antis to smear the majority of decent law - abiding hunters:mad:

they two guys should be let loose in a one acre enclosure and shot with a bow and arrow by their most highly respected maybe their family. disgrace worse than shooting a person the bear new and trusted its owner, he was lik its mother. i no these are harsh words but i do believe it and incase you are wondering i am a hunter. but this was horrible

The only problem with the commentator was that he was too kind in his description of such a pathetic act. The grinning w**ker with the bow would turn your stomach.
