I do quite a bit of iRacing.

Currently running the C6R every week I can, great service. Can't imagine using any other sim anymore honestly.

Ive never even considered iracng before. The concept of a sub put me off. I just watched that Nascar video though and it looks very interesting and professional!

Just try playing Race 07 now that Skidrow have hacked it and every fool is playing the game online for free smashing up on turn one!

I bought the 1 month iracing subscription last night, it came with 2 extra months for free. Thought I may as well give it a go. Still using an xbox 360 controller for Windows, so its not much use in this game. Obviously its not as good as a wheel, but in Race Injection, Ive been able to race using that controller with no problem, but in this game, despite calibrating it in many different ways, I cant get the full axis on the controller for steering. Its much too sensitive and full lock is applied after moving the thumbstick 50%! This results in me oversteering like a maniac and I cant risk going into an actual race as I will wreck other racers.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get it to work properly? Save me the "I need a wheel" stuff, I know that already, but in the meantime Id still like to have the same experience I have in other games using the controller. When calibrating, there is a point when it asks me to apply 30% turn on the wheel, whats this part for? Ive tried many different amounts of lock to try and dial in a decent experience, but so far its not working out.

Graphics are really dated, which is obvious I guess. I had a go in the Mazda mx5 roadster, it seemed rather slow in all honesty.

I was thinking of getting a G27 to replace my G25 which was stolen about 2 years ago, but Im now tempted to save a little more and get myself the T500 RS and the TH8 shifter. It has great reviews and I feel like treating myself!

First off i disagree that the graphics are dated, id argue that they are more realistic than the bloom and bling covered offerings from other racing titles.

I hate to say it and you already know it but do iracing a justice and get a wheel.
There really is no two ways about it, pad with iracing is not like other games ,its a thoroughbred simulation,99.9% of users use a wheel of some sort.
Seriously mate i cant stress it enough,if your into iracing do yourself a favour.
As for what wheel, G27 is great, dont forget the Fanatec wheels.
T500 RS and the TH8 shifter is fine but isnt that more expensive?
My advice would be get an affordable wheel ,trust me iracing will be a totally diffferent beast with one.
If you then find yourself wanting to subscribe longer then maybe go for a better wheel.

Sorry i couldnt offer anything to improve the use of a pad with iracing, but there really isnt anything you can do im afraid.
You will get away with it in other racing games and maybe som racing sims but not iracing im afraid.

All racing games become a completely different kettle of fish with a wheel, I wouldn't be bothered playing without one any more.

Hey there lads, going to take out a 3 month sub this week (3 months for price of 1) dying to try it for a couple of years but held out until my new rig was ready. Been playing for years already, GTR, GTR2 and EVO, Rfactors mods. Cant wait, The time investment thing worries me, not a lot of spare time with 2 young kiddies in the house and a lot of work commuting to be done.

Curious how the scheduling of races works, I gather Iracing groups people by talent, do you have to be online at certain times to race in your series or can you drive in races when you like? Really excited by this one, hope there are a few Boardies still racing and I can get some advice from you or add you as online buddies or something.... Hope to see you on track :)

Still put in some time in iRacing almost daily, even if it is for a short practice. Good to see another celt joining up, make sure to introduce yourself on the region forums!

iRacing is very flexible with time really. Races in the rookie series where everyone starts run every hour on the hour. Series further up run every two hours, and official races can be found at almost all times in the popular series. In the less popular ones the community will set up times that should suit everyone to race at in each region. Practice always runs so you can do that whenever.

There are also plenty of leagues that you can join that run at a set time every week/two weeks, so if you find one that suits you it is one of the best ways to have consistent competition.

And finally, yes you are grouped by "iRating" which determines your skill level in all cars and pits you against relative competitors. You won't see this at rookie level but it is still calculated under the hood. See you on track!

    Sounds Brilliant!
I Follow a guy on twitter called @niall_quinn1, he's a Racing Instructor at Mondello Park who ran iRacing a while ago and might be getting back into it if he can get a rig together...he tweeted me today to say he is glad there's some Irish lads running the sim and then I took a look at his profile properly....He was only Adam Caroll's team mate in the Irish A1GP team during 2008/9.... Think I better get practicing..

That's amazing. You'll find many real world drivers in the sim. Dale Jr. is currently in the top 20 of the current Class A Oval series I believe. Shane Van Gisbergen runs regularly in the V8 series just like real life. I was in a practice session with Scott Speed once too.

And it's all packed into a generally great community. Can't imagine going anywhere else for my sim racing needs.

So, Ive had Iracing since Friday and I'm loving it, Practice only so far while I get the hang of the handling of the cars, Its definately different from Rfactor!

Doing ok but obviously had a few spins and near moments as I begin to push a little, am I right that mistakes aren't counted against you in testing? Only practice Quali and races?

Hope so anyway because I was afraid of going over the limit and losing control incase i got de-merits or something..

Anyway loving it so far and think I might take out a longer Subscription when this one runs out.. God help me lol.

    Clive.

Incident points don't count in testing or practice so your Safety Rating won't be effected.

Their significance is also halved in qualifying meaning you don't get as severely punished for going over the limit. Of course any incident point during a qualifying lap will invalidate it so it's important to stay within the track limits during that session.

hey fella's just thought i'd sign up to board.ie and say hello. another iracer living in drogheda. see you's on track :)

Im not iracing at all these days but ive been there since the early beta.
While i dont claim to be fast i have raced alongside Dale jr on two occasions aswell as Marcus Ambrose and AJ Allmendinger on one occasion.
Also raced with John Henry 4-5 times before the sim was released, as a Liverpool fan that has more meaning these days :)
Best sim out there by some margin.

Im on the luas on the way home to Malahide. Guess what I have sitting next to me right now? A brand new Logitech G27! Can't wait as my irating was suffering due to using an xbox 360 controller which is horrendously over sensitive and was causing me to spin all the time.

Do you mean in the general topic thread on Boards or on some iracing forum?

Ive been messing around all night, had a nightmare trying to set the wheel up. I have the Logitech software installed that came with it. The program was running in the background, so Im not sure if it was interfering with the settings ingame. I couldnt for the life of me dial in a decent setting, it was either requiring far too much turning of the wheel, or too little. When I played Race 07, the default settings on that were great.

I will have to setup tomorrow as Im knackered now and I want to get up early to watch the Federer Vs Nadal match at 8:30am!

    Impressive work there Squidwert.

When I see Squidwerts job on those pedals, I find it quite intimidating! I know there is no chance I will be able to do something like that without the most comphrehensive of instruction manuals.

I love that website though, some of the cockpits are inspirational.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 139 ✭✭_HULK_SMASH!

WOW those pedals look amazing. Had dealings with Todd before, hes a great bloke. Would love to have the skill to be able to do that.

I must take some pics of my cockpit and post them up here and on Tysmyster's site.

Just have to clean the room its in.....lol.

How are you achieving the curved screen with the projector? I have a projector my self so would love to know.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 360 ✭✭djrichard

Do any of you play RFactor 2? Just wondered how it compares to iracing. What annoys me about iracing, is not the subscription, that keeps most wreckers out, but the fact you have to keep buying tracks and cars etc. Quite pathetic and very poor value for money. There doesnt even seem to be a way to try the cars out before purchasing them, so how are you going to know if you like the cars or not?

very easy to make you can get white board from woodies 4x4 foot for about €12
    http://www.thewayiplay.com/mainforum/index.php?topic=2181.0
if you need more pic's i can send you some

And djrichard the price for the tracks i think is fair, its costs a lot of money to get the license and time to get an accurate lazer scan of a track. but all the cars are fun to drive. I'll not be getting rfactor2 yet i don't think i would play it till there is more content and then it will only be for fun.

It's a lot more compact than I thought it would be too. The other set up I seen was 3 from the back, so it more or less took up an entire room.

Would that be about as curved as you could get with one projector? There pretty much no chance of me being able to afford a second projector if it has to be the same as the one I already have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 258 ✭✭Squidwert

I don't think you can curve much more than what i have at the moment. the tilting of the screen helps a lot also the screen is a bit wider at the bottom but you don't notice when. I have some software (immersive design lite2 €50)that warps the image from a projector so you can make the screen look perfect but i've not set it up yet. It also lets you add and match projector images together for a bigger screen (;)for when you get the other projector)
New pic's posted at the bottom of the page on the above link

Got an email from iracing offering me 3 months for $9.
Epic bargain tbh, time to dust off the G25.
To think i spent about €300 on content in 09
God knows when ill get time to play but its too good to resist.

Anyone know if any of the class A or B series offer shorter races than they used to?
I have a serious longterm leg injury and it gets very painful after about 20 mins racing.
Quite a few races ive pulled out of with pain so id love to be able to race the A and B cars in shorter races.
