Im still a subscriber but i simply dont have the time it deserves.
When i was really into it i spent hours upon hours practicing, tweaking setups and racing.

I'm a subscriber myself, but I haven't had time to do more than a few practice laps every now and then for a few seasons. Hoping to get a few races in this season.

Same here, not raced at all since March, just done some test and practice laps since, but hoping to start again later this month, time permitting. The Corvette fixed setup series will probably be what I'll start back up with, so I can basically get in and drive and move up to an A road license.

Im signed up too, although my subscription is up for renewal again on Black Friday. I don't have a lot of time for it, its been months since ive been online, probably May. I have so much realf-life stuff to do that I packed the G27 in a box a couple of weeks ago and vowed not to use it again until I'm done with my projects and have a cockpit built. So my guess is I'll be simming again in December sometime.

I'm a member for the past month or so. I have not raced yet, just practicing at Lime Rock, and Brands Hatch in the new Mazda's. It's a stunning sim though isn't it

Yes, it is, and incredibly time consuming as it does need plenty of practice time to be competitive in any of the series.

was that from a guy who was selling 3 monitors for around €640? God I was so tempted.

    No,I've got two 22" Dells for 230 (delivered to my door),as I already have a 22" Dell S-IPS screen.
I've got a HD5850 off adverts as well a couple of month ago:it's a budget build (the missus thinks different tho :D )
Got 3 cheap Vesa LCD mounts off Amazon,so after Christmas I'm off to the shed to build a DIY triple screen stand.

I'm a member well over a year now, great stuff, I don't race all that often, when i do I usually just race combo's I'm good at (spec racer ford on summit point, skip barber on watkins glen)

    I use a logitech g25, currently a b licence with a 3.75 SR and a fairly low 1675 IR)

Hey guys, I wrote a little article for my team about the iRacing.com World Championship Series today. For a relatively unknown team in the iRacing world, we managed to claim 5 of the top 6 positions including the win - beating championship favourite Greger Huttu.

    http://www.my3id.com/gaming/news/126/my3id-gaming-dominate-round-1-of-iracingcom-world-championship-series

For any of ye that dont know, this is the biggest sim racing championship in the world and the drivers are battling it out for $17,000 prize fund.

Did 9 laps of Zandy in the Skippy during the week after a few months of a break, had been playing GT5, and I'd forgotten how good iRacing actually is. The subscription is about €9.00 a month. Can't get much better than this for online racing: 2011 NASCAR iRacing.com Round 1 at Daytona

iracing is simply light years ahead of everything else on any format.

Just after playing this for the first time and have to say....its pretty difficult!
Ive spent the afternoon trying to get my head around it and am really struggling just to string together a pair of laps back to back!

Yup, its most definitely a simulation.

    1) Concentrate on keeping it on the track, not on your lap times.
    2) Don't mash the pedals, and turn in and out smoothly.
    3) Slow into corners by braking a little early will mean you can be fast coming out of them.

Are you driving the MX5? You'll get used to it quite quickly, its a nice stable car. Stay away from the Spec Racer Ford until you've mastered the MX5 and can lap consistently in it.

The Spec Racer Ford requires a completely different driving style, its mid engined and is much more twitchy, you need to keep some throttle on while braking and it takes a good bit of getting used to.

Once you get a D licence, buy the Skip Barber single seater, its a really fun car and has limited set-up changes you can do, so its a good introduction to setting up a car.

Don't ignore the oval racing when a Rookie, the Legends car is easy to hurl around those short circuits and is good fun.

    Thanks for the advice

Yeah I was using the MX5 and the Legends car. I was really struggling initially with the Mazda but after spending some time in the car I got things a little bit more under control. I had been just doing test sessions but went into a race at Lime Rock and really saw a pretty big improvement once I was able to see other drivers and their lines etc.

I was pretty far off the pace in qualifying, I was about four seconds slower, but I got a bit more consistent throughout the session and by the time the race started I was confident of a decent showing but on the first lap the connection lagged going through a corner so I went straight into a wall!

After that I tried the Legends car and was very happy with my race, had been running in the top five before crashing at 3/4 distance. I saw an accident ahead of me and tried to take avoiding action and crashed into the wall. I ended up finishing fifth or sixth out of 14 but lost about two laps with that incident and the repairs.

Overall though Im very impressed by iRacing. I signed up for a month(with two more free) and Im already hooked! The difference between this and, lets say, Forza is pretty big. The racing is much better with everyone clearly having to think about the consequences of their cactions as opposed to just racing flat out and trying to wreck everyone elses races.

Yeah forza is handy for some quick online pickup races, although the load times are a bit pathetic. iRacing though, just like real like you have to work at it to stay on the pace..
