I use lucid virtu mvp and it works perfectly for that. I get 0 screen tear. What the problem?

I can turn lucid on or off but not really adjust anything else.

Ive noticed like a kind of lag, the screen stutters for a second then sorts itself out and get what id call screen tear for a second. Its not constant its like frame dips causing it. I usually use fraps on any new game I get and adjust the settings till I consistenly get over 60fps then turn v-sync on and I get solid frames. I really like the idea of using a program to control v-sync because some games seem to implement it better than others.
For example Crysis 2 Ultimate Edition with v-sync on locks my framerate to 30fps. With it off im getting about 80-90 on average with a few adjusted settings. I play it through steam.

Crazy if you have an apu with some good ram.

There should be tabs with multiple options. I have the same free version that came with the board. Have you downloaded the latest version? The first tap has the on/off option for gpu virtualization, the second tab has the hyperformance and virtual vsync on/off options. You have to disable it for bf3 though or it crashes.

I've been saying this here for ages. High speed ram massively boosts the performance of those igps. Your best bet is buying decent 1600mhz ram and overclocking it to 2133mhz. The a8 5600k is crazy good value for money. It's the perfect entry level processor/graphics, combined with high speed ram, a cpu and igp overclock and a 720p monitor you can run pretty much any game.

I downloaded the version linked from the ASRock Extreme 4 download and utilities page on ASRocks website on friday last,it was date 25/07/2012 the last time they updated it,actually mentions the bf3 issue aswell.
I am getting a message that there is an update but it just links a page for the pro version when i click on it,cant see an option to update basic version.

Ye i know the tabs you talking about,i have everything turned on in the program, gpu virtuilization etc etc.

One thing i have noticed though is when i select gpu virtualization and turn it on and off it only seems to grey out the intergrated graphics and not the discrete gpu option.
I only re installed windows on friday aswell so i may have downloaded it before i installed the gpu, could it have detected the igp first and trying to use that?

Doing a bit of digging about crossfire lately and people are using virtual v-sync to help control the temps, locking at say 90fps with crossfire seems to greatly reduce temps,at 1080p anyway.

You will get newer versions of the program direct from the Lucid Virtu Mvp site. Asrock don't update it.

Unless the program has issues with crossfire I don't know what the problem is. It works perfectly for me. Screen tearing is a non issue.

I don't know why amd have not integrated this into their drivers yet.

Ah,should have known by the last update date!

I havent got crossfire setup yet,i will be though so thats why i wanted to get virtual v-sync working before i get the second gpu.

Ill go the main site and download the latest version cheers:)

Maybe its cost? AMD seem to be struggling from a business perspective(work in the newspaper industry so sadly i read the business news:P).
Im sure the cost of R&D for companys like AMD and Nvidia are huge, just for their hardware alone,so not surprised the software end is a little behind:(
I have faith though, the new beta drivers seem to have improved crossfire on single screen anyway:)

AMD spend a tiny amount on R&D compared to Intel or Nvidia. It's amazing that they can compete with both companies at all. The console APU deals will push them into profitability for the first time in years.

I bought shares in them a while ago for €2.80 a share. They were up to €4.80 a few weeks ago but have dropped back down. I'm not worried though. I expect them to be over €10 a share by next year when the profits from the console deals start rolling in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,617 ✭✭✭Revoker88

Im sure in comparison there R&D budget is small compared to Intel or Nvidia but its in relation to their profits i mean. They may on spend a fraction of the amount of the others but in relation to the profit they make their R&D budget could be a lot higher percentage of turnover,if that makes sense, tighter margins:pac:

Yeah i hope the console deal will help them push on,competition can only benefit the consumer like me and you.

Ill buy all you shares for €6.50 pop?:D

They are only €3.72 at the moment. There's still time to jump on the bandwagon and at least double your money in 6 months time imo.

    Do you trade a bit?

Few of the lads in work do,they say making enough to make it worth while without being major money.

How would someone start to look into doing something like that?
I know theres apps for phones etc but on pc?

Only a little. I bought shares in Tesla motors and Amd. Both have made significant gains since buying. It was only a small investment though but I'd be more than happy to double my money in less than a year.

I know little about trading in general to be honest but felt confident enough in both companies to invest a few hundred euro. I use Plus500 to trade. It's an Irish company. It's similar to say a poker account where you can lodge money and invest it in whatever you want from the companies they have listed. They also offer a virtual currency trading if you want to mess about and see how you get on before committing real money.

They offer some good bonuses on lodgements as well as a free €25 just for setting up an account. I got €725 for lodging €500. It's now worth over €1500.

Cheers, ill have a look at that link. The name sounds very familiar,plus500,lads in work must have mentioned it.
Is that linked to any of the stock exchanges eg iseq etc? As in who sets the price and if the list of companies is limited is it regional?
Ive no idea about this so sorry if thats a stupid question:P

Ive no doubt there is definitely money to be made if you can take a medium-long term view on small investments

Few hundred invested wisely over a year or two may pay for a holiday, car, upgrade or a load of H?&%#$'s:D

It's listed on the london stock exchange. I don't know all the details. The list of companies and commodities is limited but it's growing all the time.

I've more than doubled my money already, tripled really, so I'm more than happy.

Nice, that kind of profit would make Warren Buffet proud:pac:

For sure. Beginners luck really. I just wish I had more money to invest :)

Has anybody got a 7950 or similar and Starcraft II? I seem to be getting unusually low framrates compared to a friend. We both have overclocked 4770ks and have the same minimums (which makes sense). But he has a 770. The early game is graphically limited, he is getting in the region of 2-3 times the frames I'm getting. I am getting ~100 he is getting ~300. It varies wildly and doesn't scale exactly, but when graphically limited it tends to be over twice as fast.

I thought it might be a driver issue, reinstalled. Nothing. Installed new beta drivers. No difference. I don't seem to be under performing either. In the latest Heaven benchmark, Extreme Preset I scored 1087 (I think, I will recheck later) with my overclock. His with max overclock was about 20% faster. Taking potential drivers into account, that sounds about right. So what might be happening in SC? My card should really push more than 60 FPS at all times when graphically limited.

I will recheck my Heaven numbers later and bench at stock again. I don't have my HDD connected so am limited in games I can test.

Oh, just to clarify, I am running maxed out, 1080p, no AA (SC employs retarded AA that doesn't improve visual quality at all).

    what settings are you using?

SC2 is poorly optimised at the high end of the GPU scale and may implement more nvidia optimisations than amd as Nvidia maybe leading the mobile graphics battle at the low end

I edited in the settings. Everything maxed bar AA.

The 770 is winning by orders of magnitude, though, that's what surprises me. And puts me off putting it down to driver issues solely. Linus had the AMD cards outlerforming the nVidia cards in his benches, indicating AMD had bette optimised drivers for SC2 (they are old, though). I am going to install older drivers tonight and see if that makes a diff (12.8 I mean). I'm fairly sure I had 200plus a few months ago, but can't be sure. Being that SC2 is largely CPU bound mid to late game, any 7770/650ti can push 60FPS or higher when GPU bound, meaning these specific issues I am encountering are unlikely to be brought up (who complains of 100FPS - only me!!! ;) ).

were linus tests on WOL or HOTS because blizzard tinkered with the graphics and messed somethings up iirc. the new creep is a pain in the hole at times

Not in HOTS, in WoL. I know they tinkered with stuff, but I find it hard to put this down to drivers alone. Maybe if performance were 50% better. (770cis about 15-20% faster than 7950). But not 2-3 times better.

its prob a combination of both tbh. between the performance difference of the 2 cards, nvidia's arguably better drivers, and the possibilty that sc2 uses things that nvidia cards are better at. along with the fact that over a certain fps it becomes unusable as a bench in certain games

have you got many processes running in the background compared to your friend?

iirc my 6970's run wol at about 100-140 in CF so i cant say 100fps is poor performance:p. i can run a test of your settings on my rig to see what my 780 is reading if you want and see if im getting those kind of frame rates?

Sure. I imagine the 780 will get slightly better than the 770, basically run any 1v1 map early game and you should have several hundred FPS. Doesn't have to be particularly scientific. I only have ~100FPS. Depends on the map ofc. Some ~90. It is poor performance comparatively and there should not be a situation where I am graphically bound and below 60FPS in sc2.

The HD 7990 is getting a substantial price drop, looks like they're clearing the inventory.

I am using these early game differences to highlight a point. The thing is, you should never be GPU bound I that game below 60FPS, and with 100 in the early game I am teetering on the edge of that cliff heading into the midgame before I become CPU bound. My friend was getting 120FPS at one point, me, 57, that's just not on IMO.

Oh, and yeah, the 7990 price drop in sweet. Imagine if we were I the States ^^. Less than 600 euro for finally-good-drivers 7990s. And 8 free games! Very good value now.

Apparently it was 596 at one point, obviously they have upped it again.

Although my Dabs experience was a little offputting, it's been sorted and my new monitor arrived today - a 27" Philips LED for €110, apparently because it had a dead pixel in the center of the screen - although I'm using it now and can't see anything wrong with it! :pac:

Shiieet that's tempting me and I literally just bought my two 7950's for about €570 or so.. Damn it :P
