    http://ninite.com/
Is fantastic for a fresh install.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

The only reason I don't like Ninite is that it installs everything with default settings, which I don't always want, and some things can't be changed post-install (install directory for example) but otherwise it's a fantastic piece of software.

Microsoft security essentials does the job for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

Might as well download them all but you won't need them all. No harm in installing them if in doubt.

Install through windows. Your mainboard drivers should be the first things you install.

I use the free version of avast. It offers great protection for a free AV. 0 issues since I started using it. You could get malwarebytes as well and run it once a month for some extra protection. MSE is crap to be honest.

You just get the latest. Only update the bios if there is something in the update notes that will benefit you. Don't bother update if it's just fixes for stuff you don't even use.

    What are your requirements?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,761 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

    Not really any requirements

Its for my cousins that just need a laptop for surfing and doing documents

If anyone is interested in competitive Team Fortress 2 (a high speed team FPS game), have a look at the cast of the recent season's grand final in the second post of this thread - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056912845

Happy to answer any questions about 6v6 TF2 if people are curious.

Pretty much any netbook should suffice.

No you don't need one. Just touch a rad or something if you are a bit nervous.
