    I'll be shot, but anyway...

I'm terrible for keeping drivers updated. Just decided to check my GPU drivers. (GTX460 1GB) - Ver 260.99 - 16/10/2010

    Current release 310.70 - 17/12/2012

    Oops....

And just a little before & after. Apparently drivers make one hell of a difference  :o

Ah yes. See their asses are covered because they offer "up to Xmb", they never actually guarantee set speeds...

Also interleaving is a bitch, was one of the main problems with huge ping when the next generation bundles rolled out a few years ago.

Imagine I was getting 2.70mb before the interleaving and the ****er of an eircom rep just went ahead with the interleaving without my permission

Anyone see that NCIX are now shipping worldwide ? Thinking of picking up some bits, but I'd get hit by customs right ?

I just got a One for All voucher for €100, I'm just wondering if any retailers sell the Dell-Ultrasharp-U2312HM? Alternatively I might go for an iPad Mini for the couch.

Unless the order (including shipping) is under €22 then yes, you would be liable for VAT.

Handy website to calculate how much will be owed:

So I've been thinking more on this Prodigy build, and assuming I picked up that Shuttle board (any hard info on price of that yet by the way?) I might actually be able to fit a sound card and a 670 in, even though the 670 isn't full single-slot, observe:

The rear of the 670 (when installed)

    My X-Fi Forte

Note that it's half height, and that it comes with a low-profile bracket. I'm wondering if I trimmed down the rear slots etc. and used one of these:

Would it work? Going to go take some measurements and report back.

i paid 200 euro so far but no idea of the added charges yet as its still on its way to me, thats for the x79 version of the board, the z77 one is a bit cheaper but not sure how much

i would love to try fit in some better sound too

It looks like it should work... I can't take exact measurements because I'd have to pull the card out of the case, which would mean draining the rest of the loop and I'm too busy for that at the moment, but it's within a few millimetres as far as I can tell. Worse case I'd have to chop the far screw on the DVI port as well, but it's not connected to anything, just means I'd lose warranty support.

There's the added advantage of the hold-down thing the Prodigy uses for the PCI slots. Perhaps I could shave a few mm off one side to allow the card to sit up further, then screw it in using a slightly longer screw or something. Only thoughts at this point as I don't have the case, but this little discovery has got me seriously considering it. I'd need the 600T and mobo gone to finance it though.

do you know of any decent usb sound options? im probably going to get a 670 myself but i wont be putting in any custom water so i will be stuck with no free slots and wont be able to fit anything else internally, but i will need decent enough sound. ive been looking for a while and i think what im looking for is a usb dac but im not even sure if that is the right term for it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Yeah, you'll want a USB DAC of some sort. I'd looked briefly into USB cards and couldn't find anything good. As for DACs, I'm not the best to ask. As much as I'm into my sound, I haven't gone the custom route (yet) so I can't help you much. Maybe poke nesf or Brian.

Look up Thomann.de, they'll have pretty much anything thats ever been made.

M-Audio are a safe bet in my eyes. Have a Numark DJIO myself, cheapo little toy of a thing but does a very nice job all the same. Shoudnt need to spend too much over 100 to get something plenty accurate unless you're an absolute top of the bunch audiophile.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,857 ✭✭✭indough

yeah they are a great site, i considered something like an mbox but this build will be primarily for video editing so im just a bit unsure as to what kind of setup would be most suitable. definitely not an audiophile and ill probaby be using headphones most of the time but i dont want to rely on onboard sound at least.

There's rumors that the Asus ROG thunderfx device will be sold separately at a later date

In other news, finally upgraded all the fans in the 800. Here's how she sits at th moment (and yes I did managed to break those two tool less brackets)

500R? Woooow, when did you got a sence of style? I hope it is a white version?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

GTX570 hasn't arrived yet, but bought a 3570K earlier, and a 7750 for my 2nd machine for Company of Heroes 2 LAN. I swore I'd wait till closer to release to get better value, but I just couldn't help it. Damn happy. First time I'll have a 'decent' gaming machine since about 2009 when I had a Q6600 and GTX260 Sli.

Better sense of style than you, Mr. Spoilerless!

Yeah, it's in white :) First part of the planned upgrade in the new year, I'll just migrate my existing rig for now.

Ah good boy! The white ones looks sexy. With LEDs on fans on in light blue color it makes a very very lovely sight. It just works.
Plus lost of space inside and you can open top too. I was cursing bitfenix case. It is great case, but you can't get inside the case from top. So putting in amazons Psu mobo connector was a fecking nightmare!!!

Yeah, love the white tbh. I reckon I'll have to mod my 500R slightly with a dremel.... what's going into it will be E-ATX.

And I'm coming from a CM Stacker 832, so... it'll probably seem like there's no space at all :D
