    It's naive to think every single product on that picture can only be derived from a cow.

    You can laugh and joke about vegetarianism and veganism all day long, but I'd find it very hard to take someone seriously who genuinely believes chickens, pigs and cattle deserve the torture and pain inflicted on them in modern factory farming methods - entirely for the human enjoyment of consuming meat.

    It's been proven countless times, in studies that meat is completely unneccesary for a healthy diet. I and many vegeterian/vegan friends are all in fantastic health. 2 of us completed the Dublin marathon yesterday.

    Intensive farms are the problem, a smaller farm can give animals and excellent quality of life and the best possible death available in the animal kingdom.

    Humans have been farming for a long time, so long animals and environments adapted to the farming cycles. If people put more importance in animal welfare, stopping farming (or even moving towards more intensive farming) would put an end to a lot of animals in Europe that depend on human farming.

    I don't think it's a good thing to remove people from nature or the food chain, we are part of nature and can't operate outside it, farmers that work with animals can have a great respect for their animals if they're not forced into intensive farming.

    I definitely think they should be treated better. When you think about it if we weren't eating them they wouldn't be alive in the first place or at least not the vast majority. So by eating them we are giving them a life. :D

    I agree with you about the intensive farming, but if humans are all that stands between an animal and extinction.... We are doing their race no favours. If the human race died out, most of the chickens/pigs/cattle/domesticated dogs/cats/etc would die out with us.

    If left to live in the wild, and hunt/defend themselves their species would have much higher chance of survival.

    I am not arguing against the food chain or animals killing other animals in the wild to survive. But we have reached a point in evolution where the consumption of meat is no longer necessary to survive + the modern factory farming methods of brutalizing these animals from birth to death disgusts me.

    I'm a vegetarian and I have chewing gum in my mouth right now. The packet says it's suitable for vegetarians.

    Whoever made that picture is misinformed. While some of those things may traditionally use animal products there are other ways to make them.

    Personally I admire vegans. I'd like to be one myself but then I'd have nothing to pour on my cereal. I could drink soya milk but it tastes like camel vomit, which is weird as it contains no animal products.

    Cattle and sheep have a pretty good life in Ireland for the most part. They're not tortured at all. It's only really pigs and chickens that suffer cramped conditions.

    I'd like to see an increase in the cost of meat, and that extra revenue going into animal welfare.

    rebuffing all meateaters arguements one by one:

    "why are animals made of meat then" { Humans are also meat. Enjoy Cannabalism}

    "Vegetarians don't get enough protein" {Average humans need 100g of protein a day, vegetarians get on average 115g. Meat diets get 155g, anything over 140g exponentially increases risk of cancer }

    "PETA are weirdos" {Yes they are, many vegetarians do not support PETAs methods}

    "We have to eat meat to feed everyone" {not true, given modern farming techniques we could easily feed everyone on a vegetarian diet getting all vitamins and proteins}

    "There's not enough farms to feed everyone" { To feed 1 person on a meat diet requires 16 acres, it's just 4 to feed a vegetarian and 1 3/4 for Vegan}

    "In a life or death situation you'd eat meat" {Personally I would but that situation doesn't happen in day to day life.}

    "Humans have Canine teeth for meat" { we have canine teeth as an evolutionary trait, we also have the end of a tail. Also we have only 4 canine teeth but 8 incisors and 20 molars for grinding fibers and vegetables.}

    "Our eyes are on the front of our head because we're hunters" {we have opposable thumbs used to manipulate objects directly in front, forward seeing eyes are best for this.}

    "I know a vegan/vegetarian that became sick for lack of meat" {Possibly, maintaining a balanced vegetarian diet requires attention, but many more people get food poisoning from undercooked meat}

    "Meat tastes good" {Yes it does so does MSG, it too causes cancer. There are many vegetarian substitutes that have the exact flavor and texture of meat}

    "Vegetarians are preachy" {I will only defend my view if it is attacked, never start the argument. Being prechy is a character trait, some people are just that way. }

    "Cavemen only evolved larger brains because they ate meat." {True, and I'm glad they did. At that time meat was the only way to get the quantity of protein required for development. Since the discovery of agriculture and science we can now use our larger brains to avoid meat while getting all required proteins and vitamins}

    Meat diets get 155g,
    I went on a higher protein diet for a while and just about managed 90g, up from something very very low. Where in gods name are you getting AVERAGE meateaters diet = 155g?

    Anyway, I can't live without chicken. I tried, I really did.

    I'm not sure what you mean by this. We have canine teeth as well as molars and incisors because we are natural omnivores. We could not have evolved such large brains without calorie and nutrition dense animal products being a large part of our diet.

    I like how a lot of vegans/veggies bring up these stats about how animals are treated as if the only reason us omnivores are still eating meat is simply because we didn't know how awful it is for the animals.

    Are there seriously any meat-eaters who aren't aware that in a lot of cases animals are treated poorly prior to consumption? Any at all?

    Didn't think so.

    Hint: Chances are, if we're meat-eaters now, regardless of how many times these stats are thrown at us, we're going to keep on stuffing ourselves with bacon. The preaching is entirely wasted, so can we stop trying to dictate how other people live now?

    Enjoy your feeling of superiority, or whatever it is you get out of preaching about it. I'm going to enjoy a nice, big steak in your honour.
