I never realised people would have so much equiptment, in some cases more than 1 good, high spec camera.
What's the need for >1 camera, unless 1 is a backup? But if you're not a pro why do you need a bakcup?
I thought that most people would upgrade and sell their older one.
Also, film cameras are cheap as chips these days. My OM-2n I got for €70 with two lenses and a flash, the Canon 300v I picked up for literally a fiver on ebay and it can share lenses with my 450d.

It can be great to have a camera that you're happy to bring somewhere that you mightn't like to risk bringing an expensive dSLR. For example, I brought the OM-2n to Electric Picnic with me this year.

Plus, it's just fun to play with older cameras, get a feel for manual focus etc. Having to focus more on the manual settings of the older cameras has definitely helped my success rate with my 'good' camera too...

I couldn't let the D50 go after buying the Fuji. I have some weird emotional attachment to it.:D

    1- I have a Pentax K-x + 2 kit lenses (18-55, 55-300 ), and 2 other very cheap lenses bought on ebay, a Porst Uni-zoom Macro 35-105mm F16 to 3.5, and a Pentacon 1.8/50, cheap job again :D.
2- Amateur, have been at it more or less 2 years, but still feel like a beginner.
3- I like all my lenses, use the 55-300 the most just because it's more practical : when I take pics I'm often in a hurry, not much time to dedicate to the hobby, so autofocus and ability to zoom instead of taking time to walk up to subject are a great help. Love the Porst, but to be used on a sunny day, and discovering the 1.8/50mm, and loving the quirky effects and bokeh madness, a lot more to discover with it, only started using it today !
4- South East, near Comeraghs, Kilmeadowns, The Vee. Somewhere in the mountains and heather ;).

    3.What's your fav lens?
I haven't got it yet. Though I very much suspect it is the EF 50mm 1.2L or EF 85mm 1.2L II. If business stays good, I'll have either one in the next month or so. Probably the 50mm.

I thought that most people would upgrade and sell their older one.

I have two DSLR Bodies. A D300 and my old D70S. The D70S is used as a back up, second body & also to loan to people to help them learn.

When I upgrade to full frame I guess I will have three bodies.

All that gear was not bought at one time, it was building up slowly. From first rush purchases, through the technical development and realising what do I need to have to create photographs I want to something that is purely for a purpose (e.g. joy, film experimentation) or it was dirt cheap not to buy it ;)

    Nikon D700, F80, FM2, Olympus E1, Gap Medium format camera from 50's.

    2. Are you pro photographer or just hobby?
Its not a hobby anymore. I am in iadt studying and hope to make it my sole form of income for the rest of my life with any luck

    3.what's your fav lens?
Actually not that many lenses at the moment as I am a lowly student :D Na, just spent all my cash on my main body and it was a new range for me so starting to build it up. But I tbh my fav is the 50mm 1.8. I have also used the 105mm which is amazing.

    4. Where do you live?
Dublin 13 but moving this Sunday to Stillorgan, back on the right side of the liffey again :D

What do you think of the K-7? I've got a K20D and a K10D, so the K-7 or the K-5 would be kind of a logical step-up for me at some point. :)

I have recently bought k-7 and love it. It is lighter and bit smaller than k20. However there is no huge "real" difference between these two cameras. I do not think it makes sense to upgrade from k20 to k-7.

I'm waiting for review of k-5 on dpreview to see what is a difference between k-5 and k-7.

    posting to an old thread....
I've bought a lens or two since I created this thread but there's always one more lens that you want isn't there?

    I have
    Pentax K-7
    Sigma 30mm f1.4
    Sigma 70-200 f2.8
    Tamron 17-50 f2.8
    Pentax 100mm f2.8 1:1 macro

I'll upgrade my K-7 to K-5 (for the better ISO/low light)
Would like to get a proper wide angle lens (10mm) to see how good it is/try it out.
Now I think with them I'd be content but at some stage I'd probably say an all-rounder 18-250 or so would be handy to have. I had one before and despite not being a fast lens it's very handy for walking around a new city etc. After that I'd probably find another one I might like....
    I suppose a 50-135 f2.8 would be nice too....

    1. What camera & equipment do you have?
mostly i buy nikon cameras and gear. my fav would be my d7000 and my d40. as for lens, i suppose my fav is a 15-105mm vr nikon lens but i also really like my 55-200mm lens, and of course a bunch of flash guns.

    2. Are you pro photographer or just hobby?
at the moment i'm pro, i sell images and shoot events but if i felt like it was ever becoming a chore i'd go back to having it as a hobby only.

    3. what's your fav lens?
oh as above, the 15-105mm vr nikon lens, its got a good zoom and a nice wide angle not to mention razor sharp results.

    4. Where do you live?
south dublin foxrock and dublin city

    =)

    Nikon D5100
    Sigma 17-70 2.8-4
    Nikon 50m f1.8
    Yongnuo 467 ( I think..) flash
Pentax K-X with 18-55 kit lens
Umbrella and stand which I have yet to use...

    Hobby.

Nikon 50mm f1.8, although I think it's bit tight on a crop sensor, and would like to try 35mm.

    Cork.
