Love periods! It means the end of a week of irrational madness and sore boobs and I can take lots of solpadines and feel zonked for a day with justification! :D

ashblag, it's all in the planning - ALWAYS have a standby stock of solps, in pill AND soluble form, or other painkiller of your choice. ;)

Luckily no pains just the pain of having them ever

I love to jump into my pj's and my fellas hoodie and have a nice hot chocolate with lots of malteasers in it and watch Gossip Girl or Sex and the City with some girl friends. It is one of my best home remedies for "the monthly friend" :D

For me a cup of tea, abag of minstrels chocolates (ordinary size cos I don't want to be fat as well as feel fat!) a hot water bottle on my tummy, curled up on the sofa watching some tv.

Everyone has to keep away from me when I'm having one of those days.

DCM last year, Barcelona this year and most likely DCM this year(although if it happens this year it's the deal breaker on not running). I feel your pain.

    Ditto. *rage*

I know how you feel, got mine yesterday and went into town shopping and nearly fainted with the combined heat of the shops plus my pain! Not fun! I'm going back to the doc because my current pill isn't doing anything for me at all!

Saying that a malteasers fest (malteasers ice cream followed by bag of malteasers) really helped yesterday!:)

Paula Radcliffe ran her world record marathon time when she had hers. If that helps at all. :pac:

    Yikes

I've done races up to half marathon and just got my period that day or the night before but doing a marathon on the 1st day would be my nightmare.

    Man here.

You say you are wearing your 'fat trousers' that are two sizes larger than normal.
I thought I had heard about most of the side-effects of menstration before, but I never heard of women bloating up on their period - is this common?

Hmmm, I had no idea - I thought it was mainly cramps(stomach, and weirdly, foot), headaches and a loose temper.

I've an interview next week and my period will wither start that day or the day before. The first 2 days I'm usually crippled with cramps and dosed to my eyeballs with ponstan! So I' sure I'll make a great impression

And I've just realised that I bought a new skirt suit today for said interview; I'd bloody well better fit into it next week!

Periods - i hate them. I suffer from pure exhaustion at period time. Not to mention feeling unwell. I leak a lot first thing in the mornings when I am on my period. Does anybody else have the same problem? Its like a warzone in my pants first thing in the mornings when I have a period.

Like when you have nice, new, white sheets on the bed. I was due to change my bedclothes last week to save them from getting ruined but I was too late and my period came first. Took me two attempts in the washing machine to get the stain out.

Ugh, it seems to coincide with every event in my life where I desperately don't want to have it- debs, birthdays, holidays and Oxegen (which was just horrible).

Woke up this morning with cramps so bad I nearly puked. 2 paracetamol and a heat pad later, didnt feel any better. Are there any better pain meds or are they all banned? Don't fancy having to beg the pharmacist for codeine!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,339 ✭✭✭How Strange

I only ever use nurofen. Paracetemol just doesn't work for me at all. I'm pregnant at the moment and paracetemol is the only thing I can take ggrrr

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 99 ✭✭Audie

I feel your pain, I cant take nurofen either as Im mildly asthmatic and it gives me an annoying cough! :(

I woke up this morning with an unexpected dull pain in the front and throbbing back pain...two anadin and a berrocca later I'm about to go for a run.

I swear by anadin (but it can make you bleed more) other friends swear by nurofen....luckily none of us need to go near higher strength meds yet.

I have taken anadin in the past for hangovers and found it to be great, but can't really take it, again because of asthma (and the aspirin in anadin). I'm kind of limited to paracetamol. But if this pain doesn't go away, I'm going to have to sacrifice my breathing abilities and just take nurofen or anadin!

If you are not at work or have to drive, DOUBLE COGNAC, works better than any painkiller.

The reason for that is that while you're lying down sleeping all night the blood pools in the uterus (or somewhere :p) and so when you get up in the morning it makes a break for it, with much more going in one go than normally would during the day.

Ladies, about two years ago I was on the mini pill( the one you take 28days in a row) and then I came off it but my periods never returned. That was 2 years ago this Christmas. I have to say its awesome , no pain , no hormones, no mood changes( although I suffer from depression long term I take medication and its dealt with), no hating everything and everyone. Its deadly. I have had tests by the doctor and all is normal so I dont know what causes it but I dont care. I hope they never come back !!!!

I think having a uterus should be an opt-in thing.

I've no intention of having children, why do I have to have periods?

Can I not just check out my uterus and get it back if I need it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,164 ✭✭✭Konata

I used to never have period pains (in fact, I didn't even have periods for nearly 3 years >_>) but the last few times have been hell. Yesterday I felt weak, exhausted and dizzy and this morning my period arrived resulting in crippling stomach pains forcing me to stay in bed most of the day. These pains seem to be getting worse with each period, they're making me miserable :(

Surely, if I understand the purpose of periods correctly, not having periods means that you have been left infertile?

I generally do not get cramps but mine are pretty irregular (often anything between 24-30 days). So far in the last year, they've arrived Christmas morning, on the first day of a holiday and an hour before the mini marathon. B*stards! I can be grump(ier) than normal, feel the urge to eat chocolate but don't get bloated thank God. I will usually be about 2lbs heavier that week though.

This happenned to a friend of mine who was left on the wrong pill too long, and she went into early menopause.

I'm the same. I usen't to ever get pains that bad, or I'd only get them briefly. Then after about a year of no proper periods (due to implant) I have lots of pain, day 3 now! The pain is so bad I'd have to stop conversations to practise breathing techniques until it subsides again! Have to say, last night 2 aspirin, a glass of wine and a heat pad later, the pain was finally at bay.

I think my womb made a break for it this morning!!

I came off cerazette in August after about 11 months on it with zero periods. This is the first one I've gotten and boy is it heavy!!
Thank Christ its a long weekend, cos I would not have coped if I was in work today.

Nope periods can stop for a number of years and come back. As far as I know I can still get pregnant as I am still ovulating.
