Unislim Maximizing Plan

I joined Unislim last Tuesday night, weighed in at 12st 9.6lbs. Have my first follow up weigh-in tomorrow and thought it'd be an extra motivation to do a boards update every week. smile.gif

I've been following the maximizing plan, have found it fairly easy to follow, it's just a matter of cutting down on the carbohydrates and treats. Thought I would find the no chocolate, biscuits etc hard but then I realised that I usually eat them cos my OH brings them home from work so just told him to stop, simples smile.gif Wasn't too hard on loading up on the veg either cos I like veg, just requires an extra little bit of effort when preparing meals.

Of course the true test will be when I weigh in tomorrow, would love to hear from anyone else on this plan about how they've found it! My weight loss goal is 31lbs so hopefully I'll be able to get to that using the Unislim maximizing plan.

Will update everyweek from now on about my views and the plan and anyone who want's to contribute with recipies, meal suggestions or motivational tips feel free, I think we could form a could support network here biggrin.gif

Just wanted to add that snack ideas have been one of my main problems on this plan. At moment I'm just eating fruit, low fat youghurt or having cofee whenever I feel like a snack, but I'll have to come up with something a bit more interesting soon. My main weakness is night time snacking, would usually have a bowl of cereal, popcorn or some toast but that's abviously out of the question now as I use up my carb allowance during the day. Think I might try making up the salsa dip that's in the handbook and maybe eating that with veg sticks. Other than that I've no real snack ideas. Anybody with any suggestions feel free to add them.

Lost 2.6lbs. Am delighted with it. :)

I realise that people usually lose more in the first week but I haven't been exercising or anything so I'm happy to lose 2.6lbs based on a few small changes to my diet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭TashaMonster

Second weigh in, I lost 3lbs :D Yay, I'm delighted, especially since it came after the bank holiday weekend. Just hope I can keep this up :) Really getting used to the plan now, very easy to follow as long as you don't mind LOTS of fruit and veg :D

Ok so just back from my third weigh in and delighted to say I had a loss again. Lost 2.5lbs so thats a total weight loss of 8lbs so far.
Really happy with how it's been going, I weigh 12st 1.6lbs now and I haven't been hungry at all :)

Have started walking a few evenings a week and have cut out my late night snacking and I think that's really had an impact on my loss and kind of balances out the fact that I'm stil going out at the weekends :P

Hope everyone else on this plan is having the same success as me

    Hiya

Just saw this thread now for the first time and wanted to say well done!! Healthy eating is just a way of life that if you accept it you will find your struggles with weight a lot easier. You are flying now, with a big loss in the first few week. Not to dampen your spirits but a lot os people who lose so much so quickly can have a plateau for a few weeks, this is your time to no be discouraged but to really keep on track and motivated cos the results will be well worth it!

Hi Dixie Chick, thanks for the reply, yeah I realise that my weight loss will slow down (or even stop) so i'm preparing myself for that. I've given myself a long timeframe in my head to lose the weight and hopefully being mentally aware that the rate of loss will slow down will help me keep on track, well thats the idea anyway :P Thats why i'm so happy that I've lost 8lbs so far because that loss happened faster than I thought it would so it should sustain me over the next few weeks, my main aim at the moment is to maintain my current loss and then anything extra I lose will be a big bonus.

Have gone into this with my eyes open and im in it for the long haul :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,062 ✭✭✭Dixie Chick

Well you certainly seem to be eyes open and have given yourself lots of time as well, those are fightin' words there!!! 8Lbs is a lot of weight as well to lose so you must feel it in your clothes already!

My one biggest tip to tell people starting to lose weight ( I lost a lot of weight myself this year) is to start lifting heavy weights twice or even 3 times a week. Its amazing, cos before this year I would have refused to believe that this was the quickest way to lose fat but I fully believe now that its what was instrumental in my losses this year.

Good luck to you anyway, ill check in every week to see the lbs fall off you!

well done on your weight loss tashamonster.

hi dixie chick i was just wondering what kind of exercise routine are you doing & what weight a biginner should be lifting also what you should work up to.thanks for any replies in advance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,062 ✭✭✭Dixie Chick

Hi Celtic Chick, Im no expert so someone might come on and tell me my advice is way off mark but I suppose i can just tell you what i did to lose weight.

Firstly i did the C25K running programme which got me fit enough

Then towards the enf of that i started a home dvd weights programme called Chalean Extreme http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/chalean_extreme.do?code=BBHOME_CONTROL_CE which basically tells you to lift heavy. There are 3 months, the first month gets you lifting heavy with a few combined moves like say, a lunge with a bicep curl. Month 2 then looked at lifting heavier again (like i was lifting 12kgs for biceps but only 6 time) but only working on one body part. Month three then was working both upper body and lower body together. It was tough but im delighted to have stuck with it

Then I just finished a programme called Insanity http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/insanity.do?code=BBHOME_CONTROL_INS which was VE-RY intense interval- bootcamp type training.

I plan to mix all three now im at goal but Im planning on centeing it around weights 3 times a week.

No prob, its only what worked for me but i tried so mnay diets and exercise plans over the years that i totally think heavy weights burn fat

The site has a button at the top where you can order internationally but i did that once and they use UPS as their carrier and i got caught for customs duty on it, i signed up with one of their coaches then and now he orders the stuff for me and posts them on marked as gifts! But even if you were willing to go to a personal trainer, or look up the thread in the fitness forum on starting strength you could easily pull a programme together for yourself at lower cost

Thanks everyone for all the support, not sure how my weight loss is going to go this week, haven't got a chance to go walking this week, damn weather  Dixie Chick I think I'll start working on the weights, at least I won't have to go outside for that :D
And then to top it off I got a take out last night and it was horrible, so totally not worth it :(
Do my best to get back on track for the next few days and hopefully have a loss (or even stay the same) on Tuesday.

Definitely take up the weights, its quick and you can eb done in the time it takes you to even get into your walk.
But in general its 80& about what you eat, so if you are eating well that much of the time then you should see results.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭TashaMonster

Just back from my weigh in, I stayed the same, no loss, no gain.

Happy enough because was expecting that this week, didn't do one tap of exercise and had a good few unsatisfying treats during the week.

Back on track now today, really want to get into the exercise now. Any advice on the weights Dixie Chick? Want to start straight away without having to wait for a dvd to come, have some heavy weights already (well they're my OH) Just not sure what way I should be lifting them. Any suggestions?

hi, just found this thread this evening so i said i would join in. i started unislim nearly two weeks ago, had my first weigh in last wednesday nite and was down 5.4lbs which i was obviously delighted with. i am now 12st 4lbs. my leader was very surprised at my loss as to look at me, i am quite toned but i was to slim down a bit. i am very sporty and spend a lot of time in gym or on crosstrainer at home or out walking/playing football. this last week i'm not too sure about. i know i wont have as big as last week's loss as first wk is always the easiest but still we live in hope!!! i am thinking of skipping this week's weigh in as i know if i put on even half a pound, my confidence in it all will be shattered. didnt have any major pig outs or anything like but few little sweeties here and there but i suppose that would be enough to tip the scales!! i always put flax seeds thru my porridge in the morning with a banana, and i'm just wondering if the flax seeds are ok to use if anyone knows. have been a bit stressed and down last few days and i dont think that has been good for my body either!! here's to the next two days and that i pluck up the courage to go to my weigh in!! well done everyone else on the losses, tasha monster you seem to be along the same lines as my weight, i am 5 foot 7 so hopefully my target of one stone will come along soon!!!! happy healthy eating everyone!!:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭TashaMonster

This week I lost 1lb. Soooo delighted, had a bit of a tough weekend, family drama, so there was a lot of bad meals and snacking. I know drama is part of life and I think I've learned from this weekend that a healthy lifestyle needs to be a priority regardless of what else is going on.

Mitchell27 you should def go to your weigh in this week. I was like you, I didn't want to go this evening because I convinced I'd be up in weight. Luckily my OH convinced me to go, and he was right becase if you miss one week you'll start to lose interest Hopefully you'll be down but even if you're up then it'll be motivation to get back on track. Congrats on your first week, great loss. :) We seem to be the same height and starting weight, but your waaaaay more active than me :p Please keep posting here and we can do this together :D

hi tasha monster, ya i will try and pluck up the courage to go tonite!! i've either been in the gym everyday or on the crosstrainer but i just dont feel like my body co operated at all this week and dont really have much to blame it on except a few wine gums here and there!!! :( thats great that you were down a pound, i would be delighted if i was even the same tonite!! ya i think we can help and encourage each other. just after my porridge for breakfast and fat free activia so ready to take on the day!! will keep you posted on tonite!! ps do you drink green tea? if not, its a great aid when you are tryin to lose a few pounds, but i've been drinking too much of it so ive had to lay off it for a while. if u find the pure green tea hard to drink, you can get flavoured ones, the pineapple/grapefruit green tea is really nice, its twinings, i get it in tescos!! thats my little tip anyway!!! ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭TashaMonster

Porridge and fat free activia, sounds familiar :p Oh I've become really addicted to coffee lately so I must try to start drinking green tea, does it really actually help lose weight or is it just that it replaces a snack?

Was so happy in work today, only started a new job 6 weeks ago, joined Unislim 5 weeks ago and today one of my colleagues complimented me on losing weight, she wouldn't be a friend of mine in work so she clearly wasn't just filling me with crap, am so delighted, it's nice to know that the results are noticeable to other people :D:D:D

well convinced myself to go to my weigh in, up two pounds!!! cant really understand it but sure i'll just have to work harder this week on the right foods!!! i dont eat any potatos or pasta or rice so im wondering if i am missing something from my diet. i usually increase the amount of vegetables since they are free foods anyway and they fill me up! just after having bowl of roasted butternut squash, peppers, sprouts, asparagus, courgettes and carrots with a little drizzle of olive oil before i cooked them! i presume this is all good food or have i got it all wrong?? i'm not a big meat eater either as im a fruit and veg addict!!! anyway i'll keep my chin up amd look forward to the following week!!!

thats great Tasha monster, compliments are always a good way to spur you on, fair play to you!! green tea is good as a diuretic, it helps to get rid of extra fluid you mite be carrying and good as a drink instead of coffee or tea!! i have over dosed on it now at this stage so giving it a break for a while!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭TashaMonster

Your diets sounds quite good Mitchell27, better than mine in fact. Don't think too much about being up, you had a big loss last week so it balances out. In terms of snack have you tried frozen grapes? Just pop a few grapes into the freezer and a dew hours later you have a delicious treat, the consistency is somewhere between a boiled sweet and chewy sweet and the flavour is yum. I know grapes aren't on the free list but when you eat them this way you tend not to eat too many and it feels like you're really spoiling yourself. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭TashaMonster

This weeks weigh in result, I lost 2 and a half pounds. That means at this stage I've lost 11 and a half in total :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D Am over the moon, so delighted, not far off a stone now :) Was delighted that I had a loss because I felt I had a lot of bad snacks this week, but if I could have sweets and still lose weight then that means I must've been eating A LOT of sweets before I started Unislim and I just wasn't paying attention. Shame !

Hope everyone else is getting on well.

hey Thats great weight loss Tasha monster, you're flying!! i had my weigh in last nite and i really was contemplating not goin but i went away and was delighted to see i had lost 2 pounds!!! delighted altogether!!! started using one of these vibro plates in my gym yesterday, maybe i'm jumping to conclusion but i can really feel that it works!! obviously its no good on its own but incorporated into other work outs, its great!! went a celebratory drink with my mam this evening, first drink in 34 days, tryin to save a few bob!! stopped after my one hot port cos there was a taste of more from it!! best of luck for the next week everyone, hopefully ill be reporting back with more good news next week!!

Hi, Wanted to start the unislim maximizing plan. Have all the details and plan to do it at home. My question is how do I know how to excuse the word but I'm used to ww 'point' or account for stuff like jars of sauces or other processed foods. Hope I'm explaining this properly. I have gone on the unislim website and the forum gives answers to queries but must we have to ask for every single thing thats not on the lists. Surely there must be a more user friendly way of figuring it out!!! I think I must be missing something so will be grateful for help ~ Tks in advance. :)

Had my last weigh in before christmas and I am pleased to say that since the 12th of October I have lost 15lbs :D:D:D I'm so happy that I made it over the stone mark :)

Lorraine all I can say to you in terms of sauces is just go easy on them. I really only use a fraction of what I used before and to be honest I don't really notice the difference, you can still get the taste and enjoyment from it. For example if i was stirfrying chicken and veg, instead of adding half the jar of Korma I'd only add a tablespoon.
With regards to processed foods I just try to avoid them, once I started focusing my diet on fresh fruit and veg I realised just how bland most processed food is, don't get me wrong I still LOVE chocolate and sugary cereals are a major weak point for me. So I'd just say try to cut down on the processed foods. I've done point counting before and just found it very limiting and depressing but the beauty of the Maximising Plan is that in the last 9-10 weeks I have NEVER been hungry, it just takes a bit of planning.
Focus on good foods, Bad foods in moderation and you'll fly at it. Good Luck :D

Tasha monster Wow thats amazing 15lbs since oct. Well done you must be so proud of yourself. Thanks for the advice re the sauces. Still wondering if for example you want a biscuit how do you know how much they are worth in stars and how much excercise you have to do to accommodate them. Again well done on the weight loss. Very motivating to hear that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭TashaMonster

Well in terms of biscuits etc. I've just done the same, for example i'll eat half the biscuit, or one square of chocolate and my OH has the rest. I've found that it's once I've had just a little taste it cures the crave for it :) Might be also be interesting to note that my OH has put on a small bit of weight since I started in Unislim. Think it's because when we're eating out or at families I give him my potato, chips, half of dessert etc. My loss has been his gain, opps!:P

Hi Planning on starting Unislim unfortunately there is not one in my area so I would have to do it online. Everytime I ring and ask for more detailed info cant get it. Can anyone tell me will I receive a special booklet like in weight watchers telling me how many yums a particular item is. Is it basically like slimming world. I have the books for it so should I just save my money and stick to that plan. Any Unislim advice gratefully accepted ps can you explain the whole carb thing with the new forever plan. Thanks

On the FF plan, you're allowed 30g of carbs for breakfast, 60g for lunch and 60g for dinner. Wholewheat/Wholemeal only. White carbs usually cost yums.

And yes, there is a booklet! Very helpful. If you can't get it, i can ask at my meeting and can send it off to you if you wish :)

Thanks for the reply sickly sweet. I got more info in that email of yours than from the company itself which i found very off putting. Very kind of you to offer and get me the book but how would that work would she not be looking for the membership fee to issue a book or will you conveniently have lost yours - O naughty me for suggesting that but I am frustrated with an organisation that I cant join cause they are not near me but refuse to give any information on the workings before I pay when i have clearly stated i am genuiely interested in joining. Next it will be I need a secret handshake ha ha. If you get your hands on the book that would be great but I dont want to make things awkward for you. Tks again. ps how are you finding the plan and if you did ww or slimming world how do you rate it against them.
