I used to buy X, Y, Z from myProtein but I've now bought X, Y, Z from ANYSHOP

Thought it might be a good idea for a thread where x-myProtein customers can post what they used to buy at myProtein, what it costs in UK myProtein, what it now costs in Irish myProtein and where they've bought instead.

Personally, I haven't been a myProtein customer but was considering some of their Isolate Protein and Beef Jerky. I probably still will and get it delivered to work in the North but this thread may be useful for those that don't have that option.

Great idea for a thread. I for one had given people advice to buy from myprotein but this has really annoyed me and anyone who buys from myprotein here on their new site I think is a sucker...personally I think it is time for the Irish to stop talking such a good fight and actually take some action...this price gouging happens all the time....and people here just seem to say 'Oh well....'.

Myself...I want to get some MPI and some 200mg caffeine tablets and would be happy for anyone to tell some where other that myprotein.

Bulkpowders is the main alternative as I understand it. I'll be waiting on their revised prices (after their recent announcement) before making any decisions. I'm sufficiently irritated that there would need to be a decent cost advantage for me to stick with MP.

The currency hedging thing also still irritates me. I'm happy to pay in GBP prices rather than deal with speculative pricing. I've done so for long enough.

I agree with both of you, unless they miles cheaper than anywhere else, I'm done with them.

They'll hardly miss my bi annual whey purchase, but it's a small stand.

    Hi Will,

I've had a look for caffeine for you. I found the following thread:

    http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/tm.aspx?m=1278429&high=caffeine

Which mentions the caffeine available from:

    http://astronutrition.com/caffeine-200-mg.html

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work out cheaper the the Irish myProtein site (three boxes would be €25.13 including postage to Ireland).

You can get beefjerky from www.beefjerkysnacks.ie, the shop link on their website doesn't work at the minute but I emailed them about this and they say they also sell their products on ebay.ie

So does anyone know a cheaper source for whey protein and creatine monohydrate?

They will all add up. From reading peoples comments it would seem bulkpowders might be liable for VAT next year, and myprotein might be back under the €35,000 mark and so could be back to trading like they used to!

Lots of ebay shops sell supps cheap, it is best to use ebay.com with advanced options to show all sellers -ebay is terrible for searching, most people pay way over the odds for stuff simply because the real cheapest stuff does not appear in normal searches.

Bulkpowders are a reliable company with high quality products. Delivery is a little expensive so buying inbulk is a must. I intend to contact them to ask them to negotiate lower prices with their delivery company.
    http://www.bulkpowders.co.uk/

For branded look to Muscle finnese (delivery fairly cheap)
For 10% off every tuesday (9am-9pm) enter discount code "muscletalk10"
    http://www.musclefinesse.com/

Finally echo supps who offer free delivery to ireland if your order is more than 100 quid.

A simple idea for yourself would be to contact a supplier company and perhaps sell it at your gym? You would get it at wholesale value, a hell of a lot cheaper than normal and you could sell it off for a reasonable price at your gym.
I use AM Nutrition and they are also setting up the European chain for Cellucor.
Might be an idea for yourself or for any other gym owner, saves me a bundle on my own products

It'd be cool if a supplier would throw out a boardsie deal along the lines of Richer Sounds.

Whilst I'd doubt we'd have enough buying power to attract a UK supplier, I would have thought that an Irish supplier might take the bait?

I think people have negotiated group buys from different companies through boards before, the coffee forum perhaps? I haven't actively looked into doing it, maybe someone else knows about it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭d-gal

Well if people can give me an idea of what the main products they are looking for and how many are interested I can ask and see if I can get a cheap deal for boards.
As I said I know AM Nutrition are working with Cellucor but I think that's price checked. They are working with another local company, think their name is Alpha and they are in mid production for a few products. Tasted their protein and it was nice and from what little information I got from it it was a good quality standard.

Coffee forum does this quite regularly. I've been a participant. Worked out well every time. Someone needs to front quite a bit of cash though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,165 ✭✭✭✭brianthebard

perhaps a company could be approached to provide a discount code for boards, that way a lower price could be negotiated without needing someone to pay thousands for multiple years worth of supps. I've obviously never done this or participated in one of these group buys before so I'm just throwing out ideas atm.

£10 is very reasonable in fairness I think this is up to 25kg, they obviously want people to buy a lot in one go. Myprotein's postage was just ridiculously low. With anpost 5kg to the UK is €40.

They already subsidise the costs of shipping to Ireland they claim so cant reduce it.

It is not bad in fairness! myproteins was gone very low is all so we were spoilt! Though only two years ago it was also 9.99 also.

should i assume that we can now only buy from the irish myprotein site and that the prices are more expensive than the uk site??

I haven't tried tbh, but as I understand it, you can fill your cart on the UK site, but once you enter an Irish address then you will be transferred to the Irish site where Irish pricing applies.

So unless you work or have friends in the Noth you are stuffed.

Just ordered the 5kg chocolate mint whey and 18 packets of smoked beef jerky. I'm getting it delivered to work in the North so anyone that has that option available to them should consider it.

It came to 88.56 euro including delivery. The same order on the Irish site costs 115.46 euro (about 30% more expensive).

What about using the trick from "bargain alerts".
Send using a ROI address but include a NI postcode

I'd say it's a glitch in the system but they'll probably honour any orders made in this manner. If you're gonna try it, I'd be pretty quick about it though. They'll probably fix it soon.

Stupid question...Am I correct in thinking out of that 30%, 21% of it is VAT so they're tagging on 9% extra?? Absolute chancers!!

    http://www.thesupplementfactory.com/p1/Whey_5lbs/product_info.html

This seems like a decent enough deal compared to MP's uk prices!

€9 (but roughly 1lb less :() extra for an Irish made & sold product! I've seen mixed reviews on the supplement factory stuff though!

Was covered in the other thread. They are currently checking to see whether they should be charging us vat or not as there seems to be some confusion. For the moment they are charging vat.

It could end up going to the NI address though is the only thing, as the postal service up their works mainly on postcodes. (it's a good idea for freebies, but paid orders - not so much)

I made an order with bulkpowders.co.uk last saturday and it arrived this morning, so it took what 3-4 working days. While not next day delivery, I certainly wouldn't consider it yonks.

I'm after placing an order with Bulk Powders today for over £100.

When I went to the checkout part of my order it said 17.99gbp, and my order was no where near 20kg. I'm guessing 8.99 is for the Uk.

    No UK is........

    Orders up to £100.00 - £3.95
Orders over £100.00 - free 24 hour delivery

I emailed and asked for ROI and they told me 8.99.....they saying that aint much good if the checkout is giving 17.99......

Ordered bulkpowders stuff on Saturday, received it on Wednesday. Not bad at all. God knows why you'd need next day delivery on something you should know weeks in advance when you're about to need a resupply.
