    So, evidentially someone is telling porkies and trying, though admittedly not very well, to cover it up.

    Telling lies about what exactly?

    It's a two-day conference, with a variety of subjects covered, and the woman who's been assigned by the UN to look after a grab bag of 'near earth' issues (and who doesn't dispute the possibility of life beyond earth - who from the scientific community does?) is participating in some form (but it's stated that her contribution will relate to her specialisation). I'm not seeing a single lie or conspiracy in any of that.

    Those of you asking where the conspiracy is are just being anal, and you know it. This obviously ties in with a number of ongoing 'theories'.

    Thanks espinolman. That was an interesting read. I must admit, I'm not to familiar with the fine structure constant. It's more quantum mechanical and it went a bit over my head.

    Still, my point was more about the difficulty involved in sending a craft from one solar system to another in a reasonable amount of time. The laws of physics in question are special and general relativity as well as newton's laws of motion. Relativity does apply everywhere in the universe for macro-sized objects as do newton't laws for relativistically low speeds. At least, as far as my point was concerned, they apply throughout our galaxy which is where aliens are most likely to visit us from. The point is, they would need ridiculously large amounts of energy to get to relativistic speeds. As for wormholes, these are theoretically possible, but again vast amounts of energy would be required to keep them stable (several sun's worth) and I have no idea of what happens to a macroscopic sized object as it goes through. It's also worth pointing out that faster-than-light travel is impossible through(this word is important) space. The most violent explosion (supernovae) in the universe can't even accelerate a massless particle to faster than light speeds.

    If there is a way for aliens to get here in a reasonable time without using magic, I'd be interested in hearing about it. (Personally, I like the wormhole idea as it doesn't involve FTL travel.)
