I thought I'd create this thread as a place for Socs and Clubs to pimp their events here.

It might be a useful reference thread for freshers trying to plan their week.

    Biosoc pub crawl this Thursday.
Beginning in the pav at 7:30.
I think the Gingerman, The Lombard and The Button Factory are on the cards also.

2 showmatchs this week on the cricket pitch (in front of the pav).

Cacner Soc pub crawl, Tuesday at half 6 from Pav followed by free to D2 if we make it!

Night out in ALT on Wednesday for Cancer and a good few of the sports clubs, tickets available from cancer soc stand!

Anyone going to Tripod Wednesday also, buy tickets from EngSoc stand for a fiver instead of 6/8 euro on the door!

Gamers are running "Freshycon" all day tomorrow upstairs in Regent House (turn right as you walk through Front Arch and head up the stairs), from 10am to 10pm. There's gaming, fun, and competitions.

Sci Fi Soc are putting on a constant stream of DVDs and videogames in our room; there will be a film on at all times during the week, and usually some game or other on mute. Check our timetable (at our room or our stand) for details.

Whats the christian union like as a society? Are they crazy cult type brainwashers? Do they have any good events?

Also if you attend any of the hist debates/events do you have to dress up in a suit etc?

Anyone got any info on the Radiohead Orchestral thing the Phil are doing? Like how much? And can I bring a friend who's not in the college?

My friend is actively involved in the CU. They have weekly meetings and do volunteer work etc. There's a good social side to it. I think they're doing free lunch on Thursday and a film night or something this week. They've flyers at the stand.

They also have a CU Ball around April. I dunno what else. My friend is always trying to get me to join it, but its not my sort of thing. (but I don't think they brainwash you).

If you're any way interested in scuba diving or what lives below in our seas you should check out the Dublin University Sub Aqua Club

Try A Dive next Monday night, 27th Sept. 8pm-10pm in the pool in the Sports Centre. It's a fiver to try it out with all the equipment on etc.

Info talk the next night, Tuesday 28th Sept. 7pm in room 2041A in the Arts Block. The diving officer will give a talk on the club and what training you can get and what you can see in the seas around us. Then drinks afterwards.

I'm pimping this club as I joined last year and its just a brilliant activity to get into and the club is really social and a good bunch of people. You get to experience places around Ireland that you wouldn't normally go it and see some amazing things.

If you visit the website, www.dusac.org you'll find more information there and have a look at the gallery to see what we do and what we see. Or come to the stand at front square for more information. I'll be around. :)

Fresher's Frenzy tonight in Tripod, in association with the EngSoc. Worth going to if you haven't other plans!

Many, including me, bought tickets for the academy, showed up and were told to feck off by the bouncers and guards. There was too many people inside or something, but 15/20 minutes later they let people in, after we'd all moved on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,536 ✭✭✭Mark200

I heard aswell loads of people with tickets didn't get in. Has anyone tried to get their money back? Sounds ridiculous.

After a few chats/arguments the answer is "we can't, sorry". But if you complain at the SU desk they stick you on a list for free tickets in the future so that's alright I guess.

Yeah, I was there. Ended up going to Andrews lane for ten then fecking off home.

Band was such a waste. Must check the consumer acts cause AFAIK we're entitled to a refund(for the two tix, band I dunno).

Didn't get into the Academy last night and tried to get into the Button Factory, but that was full too. Ended up in Andrew's Lane listening to **** music.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,536 ✭✭✭Mark200

If you paid to get in but didn't get in then you should definitely insist on getting your money back. That's just taking money off you in exchange for a product/service, and then you not getting the product/service.

That's a joke, they should be giving you a refund AND free tickets to some other event.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,744 ✭✭✭theowen

In fairness to them, anyone with an Ents wrist band could say they didn't get in and insist on a refund. I might ask for a ticket to the fresher's ball. Fair deal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 294 ✭✭PARARORY

The whole thing was a mess - we met people on our way up who got turned away but then when we got there it was packed and we walked right in?

Also - they let people in who didn't have a wristband OR a ticket and weren't freshers! Pretty unfair on the people that got turned away....

It'd be worth complaining if you didn't get in but I doubt they would bother to make it up....

*Remembers the "Henry Ward" fiasco - got shut down before most people had a chance to get in and then no one got their money back... *

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,056 ✭✭✭Tragedy

Unless they have fancy terms and conditions you agreed to when you bought the ticket/armband, no place for you = refund. No and's if's or but's.

That's their problem, not yours. How would you feel if you bought a plane ticket and you turned up to your flight and they said "oh sorry, no room for you". You then call up later and they say "ehh nah can't give you a refund sorry. Might give you a free flight some time".

If you got a free ticket to the freshers ball then yeah that sounds good since they're selling for about €20 aren't they? But if you want your money back then you're entitled to it and should get it.

Nobody with a ticket or wristband was turned away at the door as far as I know. There was just hundreds of people outside who were very wet and rumours confused them and they left.

    I blame Arthur.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

I'm just gonna tell the SU that they can pay up or I complain formally to the CSC or whoever they report too. I doubt Genockey wants the college administration down his neck as not refunding is illegal and they do represent the college.

Rumours? Four Guards and then a couple of bouncers told me to feck off sure.

Rumors my arse. Two irate bouncers screaming at us to leave and at least ten gardai in sight as well as a van and a patrol car. Wasnt just a case of "not tonight lads".

I was the only sober one not shouting expletives at them actually! I'd love to sit in a lecture with you. "Oh my god, he asked another question!".

    The ironing is delicious.

Take a week off from the forum. It is not the first time you have tried to pick a fight with other members on this forum.

Complain to the college, complain to the venue, complain to the people who give the SU, and SU ents money.

And when I say complain, I don't mean whinge, bitch or attack. I mean a short, well written, polite complaint and with respect to the SU, request for full refund.

Some drunk girl gave me a broken wristband 10 minutes before I got there and I got in; it was a fantastic night. Hope this helps.

    Guys,

No one will be getting money back frankly. If you ever look on an event flyer or ticket, all say ROAR, which is right of admission reserved. Essentially for any event they never gaurantee entry.

What happened Thursday was beyond ents control. Genockey is extremly pissed off about the situation in fact.

What happened at the Academy was not only there, same thing happened to Diceys and Dandelion amoung others aparently. Essentially the Guards shut it down.

So why are people saying plenty got in without a wristband? If the bouncers weren't screening adequately, it's up the SU to call them on it and get money back. It's not for individual freshers to do it - especially if things got so out of hand BECAUSE the bouncers weren't doing their job.

Well then in that case I don't think people selling the tickets and wristbands should have been saying things like "you're only guaranteed to get in if you have a ticket or wristband".

They can put whatever they want on the ticket, but that doesn't waive your rights as a consumer.

I think it's illegal to do that actually. What different does it make if he's annoyed though? If you bought a jacket from a shop, bring it back and he blames the manufacturer and becomes "really pissed off", would you let him off for the refund?
