By reading the OP, I thought this was some sort of award. I couldn't understand why the hell they would want to do that, but no, they are basically going to make a documentary about them all. That's fair enough.

The full list is funny though - http://www.rte.ie/tv/irelandsgreatest/

I think Dr Noel Browne should be on the list. He saved countless lives in this country

There's a girl down in my local petrol station that does a great sweet chilli chicken roll, she should be on this list too!

    Confirms what I suspected though.

    Persons are fine.
People are arrogant, skittish and stupid.

    What about uncle Gaybo?

I approve. Also James Connolly and Michael Collins. At least they fought for our country in one way or another

To get serious for a moment, here's one man who should be on the list:

    T. K. Whitaker

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,525 ✭✭✭kilns

    LeMass?

    O'Connell?

    Larkin?

    Lynch?

    Dev?

    Parnell?

    Wolfe Tone?

    Boyle?

Its what happens when a poll is conducted on the internet. I think its Dave Fanning who will front the documentry to try and claim Bono is the greatest Irish person of all time. I'd say he is embarrassed doing it!

    Michael Collins
At least that gay bloke from Boyzone who died isn't on it, he had made the top ten soon after his death, obviously people have forgotten about whatshisname since.

Oh and no mention of Padraig Pearse which is strange, as he rid the country of all things English like Tesco's, Marks and Spencers etc and those foreign games like soccer which is why league of Ireland grounds are full every weekend and no-one has heard of the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool etc.

Brendan, the chap who discovered America, is our greatest. The list reflects the choices made from a longer list, which in turn was drawn from the most popular offerings for inclusion. The original list was also discussed on Boards, and contained such inspirations as Roy Keane! That he, for example, is no longer touted is evidence of evolution in a positive way.

The most important thing to consider before criticizing the list is what demographic of people voted. Like asking Man U fans to nominate their greatest ever Liverpool player (Bruce "houseboy" Grobbelaar?)

    Arent Irish people wonderful?

We have short listed Michael Collins who , let's face it, practically invented guerrilla warfare.

Then we criticise someone for blowing the jaw off a dog. Marvellous
