Pretty disappointing really. Its a Desire with a bigger screen and 3MP more on the camera. Certainly no reason for Desire or Galaxy S owners to consider an upgrade, though arguably it is the flagship Android phone for now. The Desire Chipset isn't able to play 720p mkvs acceptably whereas the Galaxy S is, you could make an argument depending on your needs the Galaxy S offers more. The Galaxy S is also very good at 720p recording and photos, we'll have to see if the Desire HD can match it in that regard.

The HD isn't using the desires chipset. It's performance should be roughly on par with the SGS. I'll be buying one of these new phones when they come out next month.

Its a die shrink of the original desires chipset, slightly cooler, slightly more efficient but no more grunt ergo, the Galaxy S chipset ****s all over it.

Did HTC invite boards.ie to attend? or is this an event open to all that boards decided pro-actively to cover?

I just want to know if boards.ie was in HTC's conciousness in this regard, like say some of the tech blogs are.

Yep, they did and yes, we were - through their PR company in Ireland. Only Irish media here actually, as far as I know.

Is the new HTC Sense only for new phones or will I be able to get it on my desire? If so, when?

It's a completely different chipset. The GPU is roughly four times the power of the desires alone.

Does the new Desire HD have the QWERTY slider or is it just the Z?

Where's the after party? and how much free booze do you think you can consume to the nearest 10 euro in value?

Just the Z. the 'Desire HD' images above with the slider is a side by side of the HD and the Z.

Nothing there would make me want to change from my Desire although the new Sense features look interesting. Wonder if they'll release them for the existing phones or more likely they'll show up on a customer ROM at some stage.

I wonder what the maps are. Are they GoogleMaps but downloaded, or someone elses maps.

    Heya folks

Regarding this press conference, that's pretty much all I can get for now, just purely because of the scale of it.

HOWEVER, HTC have firmly agreed to answer all questions on this thread, so I'm going to send them over to them and they'll reply and I'll post

    AND

The County Manager for UK and Ireland has promised me time the next time he's in Dublin (early next month) where he'll sit down for a video interview to show you some of the new products and answer your questions there.

Sorry about this - the scale of this operation is quite something - but keep the questions coming and we'll go from there...

    Thanks

    Darragh

Ask him about the smaller battery please!

    Thanks Darragh,

Could you ask if the new, improved version of HTC Sense will be available to existing devices i.e. The Desire

I read mention of HDMI out for the Desire HD. Can you confirm if this is actually the case or the result of some over-excited people at the press conference? Also, can you tell me how this is done (if done), cause I don't see a HDMI port on the pics of the phone.

    Could you ask them this?

"When are you going to release the kernel source for Android 2.2 on the Desire as per your licence?"

Nope - its an application called Route 66. I used to use them on a nokia e71 at some stage in the past.

All the videos so far of the HD seem to look like the screen looks poorer/darker than the Z. I hope this isn't the case as it's the HD i'm after at the moment, although the size might be a bit of a shock after the x10 mini.

Kinda bummed about the Z having a smaller screen/proc/batt/cam .. why? and I cant say I love how it slider works. But bigger screen of the desire may do away with the need for hardware keys.

I really want to know if there will be a subscription charge for sense...

    The HD looks massive.

Hi Darragh, any update on any of those questions people asked here, you were hopefully going to put to HTC??

I've been wondering about the smaller battery in the Desire HD? Surely they didnt make the battery life worst than the current Desire? I hope not!

    Bump!

    Need input!
