    Hiya folks

I'm over in London today for a HTC launch event where I'll be previewing some of the new stuff HTC has to offer as well as getting some time with key HTC people.

So, if you have any questions or queries for HTC, please do let me know. I'll be back when I can to update the thread and answer any specific queries but mostly I'll be on the Boards.ie twitter account - http://www.twitter.com/boards_ie reporting from there.

If your question about HTC can be answered, I'll make sure it is.

    Cheers

    Darragh

What plans do they have to bring out phones with Windows Mobile 7?

Hey Darragh this is one event I would love to have went to!

Not that it matters to me but I still think it's a bit ridiculous that the market is still very limited to Irish customers and when do they plan on opening it up to said market?

    Hey Darragh,

Could you ask if they are planning to bring out any Android based tablets once the 'Gingerbread' version of Android is released?

will the Desire HD have a better loudspeaker and will it have sufficient specs for gingerbread or do they forsee another incarnation with a more powerful processor in the new year

Have they any plans to use better quality plastic on their camera covers?

This problem arises when entering SMS text. When moving from the numeric keypad to the alphabetic the cursor alters position, usually jumping to the beginning of the message. Perhaps you could ask if there is a resolution to this glitch in prospect.

never had this issue on my HTC Hero.

Do they intend to bring the next iteration of Android to the HTC Desire, will they commit to that, or are they going to drop it like a hot potato in favour of the HTC Desire HD?

Thanks for all the questions folks, keep them coming.

The event is happening at Old Billingsgate Market

Which is right beside Tower Bridge (and looking well today)

I'm due to sit down with someone in the afternoon and will get your questions answered (if possible) then!

    1) With Qualcomm shipping their 1.2Ghz chips from early next year, do HTC have any sort of time frame as to when they will be releasing phones with the new chips.

    2) given the shortage of Amoled screens which has since seen the Desire move to an SLCD screen, is this going to impact on all new HTC products until the new samsung manufacturing plants come on stream next year.

    3) If the ninendto 3Ds is a success would HTC try and implement the same sort of technology to give us a glassless 3D phone.

4)Given how well they are performing by developing multi platform phones and the lack luster performance seen by Nokia which is mostly down to their continued use of Symbian. Can HTC see a point where nokia will follow them into making multi platform phones especially if meego isn't a success.

    5) Given the cross platform nature of HTC what does the HTC rep see his NEXT personal phone as being. Will he get andorid or Win 7 mobile

Did HTC invite boards.ie to attend? or is this an event open to all that boards decided pro-actively to cover?

I just want to know if boards.ie was in HTC's conciousness in this regard, like say some of the tech blogs are.

    Eh?

Can you ask them if Fiat will be selling Alfa Romeo's in the US within the next year, due to the fact that they have refused to sell out to VW?

AFAIK anyone was able to attend the event. It was on the HTC Facebook page.

I can't speak for Boards nor Darragh but I do know he is an Android owner and obviously has interest in this area (he had to travel to London for it) and wanted to attended so is going in both a professional and personal capacity. I could be way off the mark but that's my 2 cents.

That's down to Google, not HTC... (and the Google employees I know in their Dublin HQ claim not to know the answer either).

I don't see what you don't get. If Nokia where to move to supporting multi platform OS's and just concentrating on the hardware aspect they could easily put a lot of pressure on a company like HTC and their future prospects for growth.

Why would you ask HTC what Nokia plans to do in the future. Even if they did know, or did have an opinion, do you really think they'd discuss it with you?

If you were to read the general technology blogs, you would understand theat Nokia have come to the conclusion that they are ****ed. They have fired many of their senior staff, hired gurus from Palm and are so affraid of HTC that they are standing outside HTC's event holding red Nokia balloons in a pathetic attempt to get some notice...

Forget about Nokia for at least the next two years.

Thats nothing to do with HTC.

Darragh, can you ask them have they any plans to produce a GSM compliant version of the HTC Evo?

    If not, why not?

And if yes, when are we likely to see it?

And do they have any plans to release a brand new device to mate with GingerBread or just update their current range?

I'd ask them to confirm or deny they are infact scheduled to release a HTC Tablet designed co-operatively with google for a November launch.

This is pretty big rumour news in America at the moment being run by alot of the big papers over there, I'd imagine the question will be asked but if its not, there is your chance.

Every Google top brass I've seen interviewed hasn't denied it, you might get one of those replies that pretty much says yes.

Exactly why moving to a hardware only set up on their top end phones offer the short term maybe more advantages for them especially as they have just put in a new CEO

Okay, so a lot tweeted there - http://www.twitter.com/boards_ie, but here's the press kit release thingy

EMBARGOED UNTIL: WEDNESDAY 15 SEPTEMBER, 12.30 BST

HTC UNVEILS HTC DESIRE HD AND HTC DESIRE Z WITH NEW HTC SENSE AND HTCSENSE.COM

HTC Sense integrates a variety of multimedia and location-based enhancements and introduces HTCSense.com, a series of new connected HTC services

LONDON, UK – September 15, 2010 – HTC Corporation, a global designer of smartphones, today unveiled a new HTC Sense experience with the new HTC Desire HDTM and HTC Desire ZTM Android-based smartphones.

The new HTC Sense experience continues HTC’s strong focus on the customer, placing people at the center by simply making its phones work in a more personal and natural way. HTC Sense introduces a number of key innovations including a series of connected services called HTCSense.com that enhance people’s mobile experience on HTC phones.

“We’re excited to be taking the HTC Sense experience beyond the phone to a whole new level with a series of connected HTC services we call HTCSense.com,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “Our customers will value the holistic approach we’re taking to enhance their mobile experience.

This customer-first philosophy has resonated with people buying HTC phones and this drives us to continue introducing new innovative smartphones like the HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z.”

"As a key Android partner and smartphone brand, HTC continues to bring new innovation to the platform," said Andy Rubin, VP engineering at Google. "Android is about choice and the new HTC smartphones continue to provide customers with powerful choices and flexibility."

    HTC Sense

The new HTC Sense experience offers a variety of enhancements that improve how people capture, create, share and access multimedia content. With a newly created camera experience, people can record HD videos or capture and edit images with a variety of fun camera effects.

With HTC Locations, a new differentiated online mapping experience, people have instant, on-demand mapping without download delays or incurring mobile roaming charges.

HTC Sense also includes a new integrated online e-reading experience utilizing a new e-book store powered by Kobo and a new, mobile-optimized e-reader that includes the ability to highlight, annotate and quickly search for definitions or translate unfamiliar terms.

    HTCSense.com

With the new HTCSense.com service, people can simply manage their mobile phone experience from their HTC phone or personal computer. For example, people can easily locate a missing phone by triggering the handset to ring loudly, even if it is set to silent, or to flag its location on a map.

If the phone’s been lost or stolen, users can remotely lock the phone, forward calls and texts to another phone, send a message to the phone to arrange its return or even remotely wipe all personal data from it.

HTCSense.com makes it easy to setup a new HTC phone or access archived mobile content such as contacts, text messages and call history from a PC browser. People can also customize their phones with exclusive HTC content like wallpapers, HTC scenes, sounds or plug-ins.
    PRESS RELEASE
EMBARGOED UNTIL: WEDNESDAY 15 SEPTEMBER, 12.30 BST

    HTC Desire HD

HTC Desire HD showcases outstanding multimedia content with its bright 4.3” LCD display and Dolby Mobile and SRS virtual sound and is the first to be powered by the new 1GHz Qualcomm 8255 Snapdragon processor.

The HTC Desire HD enables 720p HD video recording and includes an 8-megapixel camera with dual-flash. Building on the unibody heritage of the HTC Legend, the HTC Desire HD is sculpted from a block of solid aluminum and exudes the air of quality and strength that HTC has come to be known for.

It also includes the new HTC Fast Boot that enables people to quickly make a call or check emails by shortening the time taken to complete the power-up sequence.

    HTC Desire Z

For people constantly on the go, HTC Desire Z makes it quick and easy to stay connected with friends on Facebook and Twitter or with colleagues and customers at work.

HTC Desire Z features a unique ‘pop hinge’ that opens to reveal a QWERTY keyboard for fast, convenient typing. HTC Desire Z’s keyboard also includes a variety of keyboard shortcuts and two customizable keys for providing instant access to common functions without the need to open menus.

HTC Desire Z also includes 720p HD video recording and a 5-megapixel camera with automatic flash. It is the first phone to utilize the new 800MHz Qualcomm 7230 processor for improved performance and battery life and also includes HTC Fast Boot.

    Availability

The new HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z will be broadly available through mobile operators and retailers across major European and Asian markets from October 2010 with the HTC Desire Z shipping in North America later this year.

really don't see the problem with there not being one - who the hell does video calls? I know Apple have tried to make it popular again, but the tech has been round and ignored by consumers for years. Don't see it changing at this stage.

I don't think there will be stock of the existing desire it will just move onto this one. Now the details are released and they say around Europe in October. So I guess its a matter of waiting for the networks to announce them. After just getting out of a contract with Meteor I've feeling I could be right back into one with the Desire HD.

    Totally agree.

Apple tried to make a big song and dance about it but imo was a fail.
