Amen: I like the idea of running fibre into every home - can you tell me why you think that is a good idea? is it really more cost effective? would we actually save money on basic living??

One of my friends sent me this - have a read:

My fellow Irish citizens, I have read and listened to your complaints and misgivings.

    From the Irish Constitution:

    Article 6

    1. All powers of government, legislative, executive and judicial, derive, under God, from the people, whose right it is to designate the rulers of the State and, in final appeal, to decide all questions of national policy, according to the requirements of the common good.

Summation: We, the People, are in charge. Not the government.

    Article 12

1.There shall be a President of Ireland (Uachtarán na hÉireann), hereinafter called the President, who shall take precedence over all other persons in the State and who shall exercise and perform the powers and functions conferred on the President by this Constitution and by law.

8.The President shall enter upon his office by taking and subscribing publicly, in the presence of members of both Houses of the Oireachtas, of Judges of the Supreme Court and of the High Court, and other public personages, the following declaration:

"In the presence of Almighty God I ,do solemnly and sincerely promise and declare that I will maintain the Constitution of Ireland and uphold its laws, that I will fulfil my duties faithfully and conscientiously in accordance with the Constitution and the law, and that I will dedicate my abilities to the service and welfare of the people of Ireland. May God direct and sustain me."

Summation: The Office of the President is designed to protect the Irish People from poor government decision and act in the interest of the people.

    Article 13

2-3°.The President may at any time, after consultation with the Council of State, convene a meeting of either or both of the Houses of the Oireachtas.

4.The supreme command of the Defence Forces is hereby vested in the President.

8-1°.The President shall not be answerable to either House of the Oireachtas or to any court for the exercise and performance of the powers and functions of his office or for any act done or purporting to be done by him in the exercise and performance of these powers and functions

Summation: The President may summon the government and controls the Armed Forces.

    Article 15

4-1°.The Oireachtas shall not enact any law which is in any respect repugnant to this Constitution or any provision thereof.

4-2°.Every law enacted by the Oireachtas which is in any respect repugnant to this Constitution or to any provision thereof, shall, but to the extent only of such repugnancy, be invalid.

Summation: The recent laws passed by the Oireachtas are illegal and invalid, as are any further steps it takes to bail out the banks and developers.

    Article 38

3-1°.Special courts may be established by law for the trial of offences in cases where it may be determined in accordance with such law that the ordinary courts are inadequate to secure the effective administration of justice, and the preservation of public peace and order.

3-2°.The constitution, powers, jurisdiction and procedure of such special courts shall be prescribed by law.

Summation: The Oireachtas may be tried by special court for these illegal acts.

    Article 40

4-5°.Nothing in this section, however, shall be invoked to prohibit, control, or interfere with any act of the Defence Forces during the existence of a state of war or armed rebellion

Summation: The Oireachtas may not use the courts to prohibit the use of the Defence Forces during an armed Rebellion.

    Article 45

1.The State shall strive to promote the welfare of the whole people by securing and protecting as effectively as it may a social order in which justice and charity shall inform all the institutions of the national life.

2.The State shall, in particular, direct its policy towards securing:
    i. That the citizens (all of whom, men and women equally, have the right to an adequate means of livelihood) may through their occupations find the means of making reasonable provision for their domestic needs.
iii. That, especially, the operation of free competition shall not be allowed so to develop as to result in the concentration of the ownership or control of essential commodities in a few individuals to the common detriment.
iv.That in what pertains to the control of credit the constant and predominant aim shall be the welfare of the people as a whole.
v.That there may be established on the land in economic security as many families as in the circumstances shall be practicable.

Summation: The Government is bound by law to protect the interests and security of the majority of Irish citizens rather than any institutions or special interest groups.

Now, armed with this knowledge can you please stop whining and for the love of god do something!

How about we simply spend our way out of the crisis.

I know lots of you will moan and groan and call me all sorts of names but if you take a moment and think about it for a second..... it makes sense.

Yes the are holes in the argument... but..... it is a sound proposal.

At the moment everybody is cutting back on their daily and luxury spending. Basically we are saveing for a rainy day. Well people I got to tell you that
.....THIS IS ABOUT AS RAINY AS IT CAN GET !

So save no money for the next year. Buy only Irish produced or Irish assembled products. Shop in your local community. Party in your local pub.
Holiday in Tramore or Court town, keep the money here for a year or two.

Your cash will eventually find it's way back into your wallet. You will eventually be paying your own salary. In other words, you will be ensuring your own wage.

Basic economics. There is only so much money in circulation within a country. If you save you are holding onto money that would eventually make it's way back to you in the future.

    The benefits.

*You buy what you want to and feel good.
*You are helping your country to bounce out of the recession. You feel good.
*You keep others in jobs, who in turn pay your salary. You feel good.
*Everybody is happy and we don't have to waste our time worrying about how bad the country is. We all feel good.

    FEEL GOOD. SPEND FOR IRELAND.

    10. DO NOT TOUCH THE CHILD BENEFIT: So many people are dependent on it. Its for the child. Why should the child have less just because we have no money? Why should my child have to pay for their pensions? Why should my child get the dregs of a standard pension when they eventually retire? Why are the innocent getting punished for a mistake they never made? Why aren't the ones who did the mistake - like some of those bankers who were held up - not being made accountable?? Why is it all getting swept under the carpet like as if it never happened? Why was not one of them arrested??? why were they still given fat pensions??? Why were they not ordered to repay that money back to the State due to the gross error that was made?

No, let's continue paying multi-millionaires, let's continue giving our hard earned, borrowed (sure we can't even borrow money anymore!), BAILOUT money to people like Michael O' Leary who sold over 13 million in Ryanair shares both last year and this year. He has over 20 million Euro cash in the bank but we must continue our people pleasing and keep throwing money at Michael O' Leary and also other hard working people like him who probably have more money than their Child Benefit is worth every year, hanging from the end of their shoe.

Michael O' Leary who sold over 13 million in Ryanair shares

so he has help build a very successful multi national company that employs thousands of people. Not only that he is not a tax exile and pays tax in ireland not like some of our multi millionaries.
    We need more like him.

Sell off and privatise the ESB, Eircom, and RTE.

    Money made, better service.

    Win Win.

I thought Eircom was privatised. Wouldn't you know by the great broadband service they rolled out
