Hope it's ok to start this.

The Flutt is a big Pack fan.:D

The cut to 53.... Spencer Havner was the big loss, also only one punter and who backs up Taucher at RT.

Otherwise I would be happy enough with the line up.

Secondary a bit weak but ,what can you do?

Really should have taken one of the CBs left on the board with their 2nd round pick rather than Mike Neal, but its a small complaint, and something Im sure they'll address in the 2011 draft.

Looks like Blackmon is finished. Will he make a comeback? He seems very delicate for the NFL, but bags of potential.

Havner is a loss. Surprised they let him go. I hope Matthews is fit for Sunday.

Rodgers is going to be unreal this year.

The City of Green Bay is cautiously optimistic. Nobody is talking SB (yet), but certainly they feel the team should compete. The full defense has been practicing together for the first time all pre-season.

The Green Bay Packers fence got painted yesterday (just across Lombardi Avenue). This year's saying: "In Coach McCarthy we trust".

Let's hope for a good season. Brett's back for the Sunday night game on October 24th - but most folks don't have it as intently circled on the calendar like last year (maybe because Brett took it to them last year).

    Go Pack Go!

Lets hope there is a semblance of pass rush this year.

The Pack can't let the opp. QB to set up,and pick them off like last year.

Certainly with the inexperience in the secondary.

O line is good/wide receivers and TE good/linebacker corps good/D line adequate, running game adequate,it's the secondary where the concern arises.

Looking fwd to a good season, but a double over the Vikes would be verrrrrry nice:D

And afterthought... special teams need to up it a gear especially returners.

    also only one punter

Did they have two punters on the roster last year?
    That's pretty unusual

Sorry sorry... did not mean 'punter' in the literal sense should have used player.

    Could not figure it out:D

My bad... Far as I know they only had one punter Bryan last season

    Apologies.

    Hi Guys!

I watched the Vikes @ NO last night. It was my first ever time to watch any sort of NFL. It was so confusing but I have spent all day today brushing up on rules and positions from online and talking to a friend who is NFL mad!

Anyway, I needed a team to support! I read a whole lot about how Aaron Rodgers has been nursed behind Brett Favre and I liked him last night so that's how I have ended up as a Packers fan!!

In all seriousness, I will not bring a while lot of knowledge to this thread but I will definitely enjoy reading and keeping up.

    So thanks and

    Co'mon Cheeseheads!!

I liked Favre and read a bit about him and saw that Rodgers was nursed up behind him and is going to be big so I went for the Packers. No going back now.

Very surprised Havner was let go as I was impressed with his efforts last year.
I'm very excited about this season, although I am going to miss most of the latter half :(
We definitely have the squad to go all the way. Vikings didn't look great vs the Saints and have a very tough first half to the season, while we have a much more forgiving schedule so if we start off fast we can run up a lead in the same way the Vikings did last season.
    Go Pack go!

Well a rather scary final quarter but a pretty decent start to the season.
Negatives are the o-line giving up 3 sacks in the first quarter, Ryan Grants injury as it looked pretty serious to me, how tired out defence got in the 2nd half and Aarons somewhat patchy play.

Positives are that our offence looked good after we plugged the early leaks in the o-line, Brandon Marshall after he took followings Grants injury, Jordie Nelsons returns giving us a huge field position advantage throughout, the defensive play of Woodson and Matthews who were awesome and going on a road to a tough team and pulling out the victory.

Ideal start going 1 up over the vikings and 4 very winnable games to come. I really see no reason why we shouldn't go 5-0.

Brandon Marshall, getting it done for the Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers. :D

On a serious note, glad to see Jordy Nelson do well and still hang around. I'm a big fan of his.

    Sssssssteady up there!!!

Once again Pack taken apart by a mobile QB.Always happens.

Luckily Vick wasn't on from the start or it would have been a defeat.

By his own admission Rodgers had a bad game, but the upside is, it was a win but work to do.

Harrell is out for the season with an ACL injury. Grant will miss next week, at least, with an ankle injury. Jackson has his big chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,646 ✭✭✭cooker3

I'd say grant will miss a few weeks. Tbh, he is lucky if it's that as when I first seen it I instantly thought that's his season done. It was bad looking injury.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 223 ✭✭cheesehead

Cooker3 - unfortunately your first instinct regarding Ryan Grant's injury was correct - Ryan is done for the year - just placed on IR.

    Next man up...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,500 ✭✭✭ReacherCreature

Like some other poster said, Jackson has to step up big time.

Did what we had to do. Clay Matthews is really turning into an absolute star for us. Slightly worried that the Bills ran up our middle a bit too freely.
Delighted the Vikings lost. It sets up a huge match next away on the road at the Bears. If we can win that than I can see us running away with the division.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,339 ✭✭✭me-skywalker

Didnt get to see the match but watched the videos on the website. The defensive stats are great thought really good to see. Also no sacks on Rodgers.. Bring on the Bears!! MNF woopa

Solid win, however let's not get too carried away.

There will be better QBs than the Bills had lad night, to contend with.

Still a win is a win!

    Majik!

    Packers Bears 1989. The relief...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,646 ✭✭✭cooker3

FFS. I am so tilted right now.
We threw a victory that away. Special teams killed us, penalties killed us. Stupidity killed us.
2 lovely long drives in a row where Rodgers is cutting them apart we give up 2 holding penalties that stops the drive dead leading to field goals....1 of which is blocked.
We need a better punter, we need another running back.

Positives, Aaron Rodgers. My god he is so awesome.

Also, I wasn't too impressed with the Bears. I'm confident we will take them at Lambeau and win the division. Although we will win nothing if we don't address the above.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 487 ✭✭bobby wade

Thanks for the help with the win there

    penalties just killed ya

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,608 ✭✭✭themont85

    At the above;

AR should have been picked off on a couple of occasions. He wasn't perfect but very good.

The holding calls are a product of the Bears style of D, he has to overcome that. They are also a product of Peppers. He wasn't sacked but a lot of that is down to he holding and Peppers tripping.

The Bears are the best run shutdown D but that doesn't excuse the shocking running from the Packers. Not only that but they just stopped calling runs too, that will not work goin forward. Those lovely PA passes that they are so good at won't work. The Bears are also ignoring the run too. Just look at Manning and the Colts, they keep teams honest even if they can only get back to the line of scrimmage.

The last Pack drive. AR was about to be sacked and threw it away. The forced fumble was horrendous- your playing the Bears who hit hard and always look to strip the ball. Have some cop on.

I think the Pack can take the Bears at Lambeau but the two are very close. For all your malinging of the Packs peno count (many of which were forced by the Bears), a Bears fan can say the same about their O inside the 10. Both aren't close to the level of the Colts or Steelers ATM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,646 ✭✭✭cooker3

Oh 1 more thing Nick Collins. What an idiot. Wtf was he doing. You can kind of forgive the holding penalties due to the Bears pressure but that spear tackle was the stupidest thing I have seen this season.
McCarthy needs to crack down on that ****. Not good enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,608 ✭✭✭themont85

Was silly alright, McCarthy needs to look at himself though in the clutch decision. The challenge and their tactics on the goal line were suspect (as was Lovie Smith-why didn't they kneel on 3rd down with 50s to go, if they got in the endzone it gave AR a bit of time to get back down).

Much better teams do not commit 18 penalties.

    Very classy is right.

On Sunday night, he was in a Chicago steakhouse (where several members of the Bears were dining). At the end of the night, when the Bears players asked for the bill, they were informed that Aaron had picked it up on the way out the door.

Lovely little story over on sbnation.
Rodgers ran into Chicago Bears players Pisa Tinoisamoa, Nick Roach and Desmond Clark at a restaurant on the eve of their Monday night matchup.

"First of all, Dez Clark invites us all to dinner, and he didn't call in a reservation, so we're sitting down in front waiting for a table and in walks Aaron Rodgers and his family," Tinoisamoa said Tuesday on ESPN 1000's "Football Night in Chicago." "So I see the [restaurant] guy helping out Aaron Rodgers [to get a table], and I'm like 'This can't be happening.'

"So I walk over, interrupt, and say 'You're not going to sit a Packer down before you sit a Bear down, are you?' The guy was like, of course not, what do you mean...oh, you're Bears player, OK."

Tinoisamoa, Clark and Roach proceeded to exchange pleasantries with Rodgers, before the two parties went their separate ways. The encounter with the rival quarterback faded into the backdrop, until it came time to settle up the tab.

"Dez actually had two other buddies with him and Nick had his girlfriend meet us up, so we're eating good and not thinking about it," Tinoisamoa said. "It was a cool little experience. We met Aaron Rodgers, OK. But then we go to pay for the bill and they said the Packers [Rodgers] picked it up, so there you go."

Lions not in Lambeau to lie down.

    Waltzing thru the GB D.

Not looking too solid as we speak

    55yd FG Lions no good.

    get going Packers.

Ugly win, great last drive by the Pack, chewed up 5 mins off the clock.

The ease in which the Lions converted their third downs was worrying and the lack of a ground game leaves a lot of pressure on the Pack D.

Didn't get much pressure on Hill either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,646 ✭✭✭cooker3

Similar to the Bills match, it wasn't great but we got the job done. I was really heartened by the final drive; we need a lot more of that.
Our punting was still really bad. We need to start looking for some other kickers as it just isn't working right now.
Bears suffered a really bad loss mentally last night so I like our chances to take control of the division as the Vikings have a tough few weeks ahead.

Imo the NFC is much weaker than the AFC this season so I think getting number 1 or 2 seed is a distinct possibility if we can address some of our issues. I'm really scared of nobody in the NFC...and I will worry about the AFC come February :pac:

You won't have to worry about post season if they keep playing like last night.

Plus side is we started pretty averagely last year and were 4-4 with no h ope of winning the division. This year we are doing the same but 3-1 and joint top. As long as we grind out results the performances will come over time 1 would hope.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,201 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

I know the old saying is "A win is a win" but that was awful. Why did Rodgers throw 2 Ints when they were cruising?

Another bum note: Burnett is lost for the season with an ACL tear. :(

We badly need Bigby, Harris and Starks as soon as they're good to go.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,575 ✭✭✭✭FlutterinBantam

I only was listening on the radio, but looks like the Lions converted most of their 3rd downs with big gains.

Packers will have to do something about that.

I'd say the Rodgers ints were that he was trying too hard to put the game away because of lack of a running game, although in fairness Kuhn ground out some hard yards in the last drive.

Doesn't look too promising, but hopefully I'm wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,339 ✭✭✭me-skywalker

    Missed the whole match!!

One stat stands out though, Rodgers only 17 attempts?? Thats awful!

How do people think the Packers will do against the 'Skins today.

'Skins seem to have a fairly big injury list, would expect a Packer win myself, as usual it will be close.

I would expect John Kuhn to get a good few carries.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,646 ✭✭✭cooker3

Skins pass D is 2nd worst in the league so I expect a big day for Rodgers along with the WR corp and Finley.
Confident of the victory but it depends which Skins team and which Packer team shows up.
