I can't believe Kelly Brooke's amazing boobs and bum couldn't save this movie from being terrible. It seemed like it was written by a twelve year old who wanted to make a wackier version of Jaws, but unfortunately had no sense of comic timing.
It wasn't particular funny (needed more catchy one-liners) and none of the chracters were particularly interesting or fun (with the exception of Christopher Lloyd as an overly eccentric fish expert. Sadly, his screen time is limited to the best part of five minutes).
The ending was the most pathetic thing I have ever seen. It builds up to a big finalé, but then stops abruptly without a decent payoff.
As for the much talked about 3D effects, they were bolted on after filming (as opposed to the film actually being shot in 3D like in Avatar) and it shows. They are inconsistent, with some things being rendered in 3D pointessly, while other more interesting things are left in 2D - a poorly constructed gimmick.
Hard as it is to believe, the straight to DVD film Frankenfish is a much better watch.

It starred Christopher Lloyd, Jerry O'Connell, several porn stars and Kelly Brook.

    What were you expecting?

    One word: Fun.

Jerry O' Connell wasn't given a good enough script to make use of his talents. His character needed to be a lot funnier. As for poor Lloyd, his five minute cameo was arguably the best part of the movie. He was zany and fun, but unfortunately barely in it.

You didn't think any of the mind numbingly stupid gags/scenes were fun?

Christopher Lloyd, I agree he was the best part, I think they did well only having him barely in it. It was slapstick enough as it was without having him in it too much shouting and over exaggerating every word.

Three and a half words I never thought I'd see in the same sentence.

Hey don't throw in Frankenfish in a "it's better than a bad thing" kinda way.

Frankenfish was an enjoyable creature feature.

As for the remake of Piranha, have not seen it yet so cannot say what I thought of it yet.

I'm sorry to interrupt here Piranha 3D, but Frankenfish has the greatest novelty death of all time. OF ALL TIME!

Saw this last night, it was a great couple of hours of entertainment. No I don't see it winning awards but it was simple, funny, silly, gorey and gave good frights. It's been a long time since I've seen a movie where the people in the cinema were regularly jumping or laughing all at the same time.

It's not a film to be diagnosing the plot and picking holes, you're completely missing the fun of it if you do that.

Worth a watch imo, the 3D bits gave extra laughs too.

Watched this last week and it did absolutely nothing for me, beyond some nice looking gore it was banal and boring creature feature in which nothing really happened. The last shot may as well have been sign posted given how blatant it was that they were going to steal the best moment from Deep Blue Sea but unlike DBS it had absolutely no effect in Piranha.

The 3D seemed redundant, there was never really any sense of it being used to the films advantage. I had heard some people talking about how amazing the vomit scene looked but to me it just looked flat and boring. My Bloody Valentine showed what a decent horror could do with an inventive use of the technology, Piranha 3D showed yet again that 3D cannot save a bad film.

    3D boobs Darko....3D!

There was not one single pair of boobs on display in the film which justifies it's existence. Had they had some fun with the boobs in 3D the film may have been slightly more entertaining but as it stands it's a tiresome, unoriginal and banal remake which really should have premiered on the sci-fi channel.

It was one of those films which offered no surprises and you know from introductions which characters would make it to the end credits, had Aja mixed it up a little and killed some of the main characters, nobody would have missed the kids or the drunk love interest and killing off one of them would have been a genuinely surprising move which would have nicely set up the sequel.

Flicking through my DVDs earlier I stumbled upon the Getaway and began to wonder if Steve McQueen would find it funny that his grandsons acting ability is on par with the material they build his casket from.

What a crass thing to say.

Steve McQueen was cremated by the way.
