Ok,the poll is open until tomorrow, thought there would be a bigger response as there appears to be a huge interest in target shooting. Probably just a lot of armchair target shooters out there and not too many who actually shoot in competition. Come on people ,get out there and vote, your sport needs you:D:D

You would need a few polls to get an accurate overview of the exact nature of people and their competition shooting habits. Instead of 4, 5, 6 polls may i offer some hints/advice/help.

Try more specfically named disciplines and distances.

    Benchrest/PR60 - 50mtr.
    Sporting .22 - 50mtr.
    Sporting .22 - 100yds.
    Air Rifle - 10 mtr.
Fullbore short range - Less than 300yds.
    Fullbore medium range - 300 - 600yds.
    Fullbore long range - 800+yds.

(Feel free to add if i've forgotten anything)

Also try post it in the main shooting forum. Would get more "exposure" as soon as the user logs onto the forum.

Then try a second poll in relation to amount of shooting done. Such as:

    Weekly.
    Fornightly,
    Monthly,
    1-3 competitions per year.
    4-6 competitions per year.
    7-9 competitions per year.
    10 - 12 competitions per year.

Out of personal curiosity is this for personal information, commercial information, leading to something. ????? People will be wary of giving "too much" information out.

Not too many target shooters in the hunting forum really. They tend to hang out more in the target shooting forum.

I didn't want it discipline specific, just a general overview of the numbers, that's all.

I know you did not want to get into disciplines but they define the types, calibres, weights and distances.

The choices do not really cover Gallery Rifle. Smallbore or Centrefire.
Most of those include shooting at various distances up to 50M.
I selected Centrefire as I like to shoot Centrefire Gallery Rifle but these are low velocity rounds in calibres like .38, .357 and .44 so I dunno if they fit what you mean

Also Rimfire Benchrest tends to be 25M and 50M so again it may be less than 100M but you might be as well to have more criteria for the poll as many woulkd shoot one or the other of those but never 100M.

Rimfire can again be broken down int otypes of rifle from a light sporter to the Heavy Varmin BR or heavyweight ISSF Prone Rifles.

TBH You'd need to leave the poll live for a wee bit longer than two days to even get a smidgeon of an iota of an vague overview!;):D

As the lads said above, your criteria are a bit too vague to illicit any realistic or informative criteria.

A simpler option would have been to start with: Do you compete in Target Shooting Competitions? YES or NO. And then work out from there.

You may be interested in some polls which took place last year, this one: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055748719 and this one:http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055749996
These didn't really go anywhere for a number of reasons (my own not-bothering-my-arse being one of the reasons TBH:o). But some of the info may be of interest to you.

Is this current poll for your own interest or do you have some plan for it?

You also have to remember that, popular as this place is, we don't get everyone.
And you have to remember that not everyone who shoots will compete. And of those who compete, not all compete outside their club.
For example, in a given year, DURC might have 400 members. Maybe 300 of them will shoot more than once. Maybe 200 will shoot on a regular basis (which is about once a fortnight or so - which isn't bad compared with many other clubs). 50-100 of those 200 get entered into the club ladder competitions. Of those, maybe 20-30 will wind up going to national level competitions, split between .22 and air rifle matches.
But if you said we only had 20-30 shooters, you'd obviously be very inaccurate.
