Did this man even exist? He's the most famous man on the planet, even after 2,000 years. Even more famous than Bob Dylan or Elvis (not trying to be funny)..

I believe he existed; but don't believe he was/is the son of God and all that. But, if you think he was, then cool!

    So who was this guy?

Seriously, the evidence suggests that he really did exist. But who was he?

I'd consider myself as agnostic - but am still interested to know who was this man Jesus?

Even from a non-religious aspect, who was this man Jesus? Do you believe he even existed?

"I am an historian, I am not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history."

I believe he existed and is the son of God but it's hard to believe he walked on water and stuff in that light. A lot of it's over-exaggerated.

A guy in ancient times who just tried to get people to be nice to each other? possible, maybe probably. A guy who was sent from Krypton or something to save us then died, waited till the end of the weekend to come back, flew back to his planet then never bothered reappearing to sort out peoples misinterpretations and bickering about his message? nah.

    Blessed are the cheesemakers indeed.

I believe he existed but I don't believe everything about him! Such as find it hard to see that he was concieved by the virgin mary miraculously unless she had an annoymous donor!? How he possibably not have had some kind of intimate contact with a woman for those years that he lived? I wouldn't be surprised if the theory behind the da vinci code was closer to the truth? especially in the case of mary magdalene...other aspects I only half believe actually happened...I know sound biased really. I firmly believe Jesus Christ did exist regardless of what has been said in the bible!

one of many claimants to the title 'saviour, son of god' at that time - got lucky when the romans picked his cult to represent the ideology they formulated to further their power

i have my own theory on his so called crucifixion.

Jesus died den came back as a zombie...the 1st zombie. den to explain how the cave he was placed was opened, its very simple. Grave robbers moved the stone in front of the cave, only to find a very dead and very hungry Jesus. He ate dem, leaving nothing behind.

There the crucifixion story told in a more believable way :D

You could say it's 'hip and edgy' to be an atheist. I would say it's people enlightening themselves with common sense after generations of fearful oppression from the church.

But seriously in all fairness, i believe jesus was a real person who did inspire millions of people to help their fellow man and do good in the world. Granted as an atheist i do not believe in god or any of the beliefs surrounding jesus as "the son god with magical powers". But i do think he is a hugely important figure in our history.

Well no, he raised Lazarus and thousands of others as well.

Resurrection from death seems rather pedestrian at the time.

I believe he existed.. Not that it matters. The story written about him has managed to help some people and cause death and suffering for others. He's one of countless preachers at th time and his story was written 300 years after his death to suit a purpose.

That's all anyone needs to know about him.. If he wasn't the biggest fad of the last two millennia, someone else would have been. All religious folk denounce all other religions as if there's is the one true belief. It's laughable. I find the beliefs of south american tribes more realistic and meaningful.

"I am an historian, I am not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history."

I'd find it hard from a historians perspective to put so much weight behind the figure and not the cult (not a stab at christianity just a term) that persisted around him. There are countless 'figures' in history that are generally presented as individual forces of nature but the historians perspective would be to the dismantel the myth of the figure and reveal the cult that brought him or her to the fore, As ads by google said, the more intersting stuff is how his name and words were used in the 300 years after his death, the actual events of his life are meaningless and can easily be questioned while there is much more recorded events of the movements and intentions of early christians and it is much more interesting from a historian's perspective.

He probably did exist and was one of the best politicians ever to hit the streets back in the year 0AD.
The best damn democrat to run against the Roman conservatives if you will.
Obviously, his PR company did one hell of a job when selling their product.
Not surprisingly though, like all advertising agencies, they exaggerated a 'little' when promoting what Jebus could deliver.

We don't know what he was but we do know what he wasn't by process of elimination, time-line and geographical locational birthplace.
As such we can surmise more accurately what colour he was given his regional caucasian.
The vast majority of historians and scientists stick to the basic tenement that he was a Galilean Jew (historical background on this alone is found in the bible in many books) and thus would have features which resemble modern-day persons of Semitic descent. This would have meant that his skin colour alone portrayed by western and most modern civilisations would be totally inaccurate via their idolised pictures, statues, glass stained windows and even mass cards, etc.

The Middle East was crossing point of cultures and races which leads to further attenuation that Jesus more so should have been African or Arabian, even partly mixed, if not more so. The Near East was the primary means of access for traders and travelers seeking to access Africa via the adjoining Levant. Hence, the bordering Roman provinces of Judea and Galilee (Jesus' home region) multiple waves of immigrants passing through those primarily Semitic lands. As such, it is conceivable that Jesus' lineage could have borne traces of Arab, Aramean, Berber, Roman, Greek, Black African, Persian or Indian ancestry.

Had he been any one of these or a mixture, yet again there is no way he could have been the current image that is propagandised by current white only thinkers. His facial bone structure alone would have been indicative of the Levant era, Judea and Galilee region alone. Further taking into account the geographic region, the religious persuasion of his family and their faith's tendency to stay within their own kind, and their ability or lack there of to travel great distances due to known family job description and monetary concerns, that also absolutely limits the rare likelihood of further western caucasian DNA and pale/white/skin tones being introduced.

Again, we don't know exactly what he was but we can be nearly sure given the above reasons and many more, what he wasn't - and thats the image you probably see all around you in western civilisation.

Surprisingly (:)) I believe that Jesus is who He was described as in the Biblical text (both Old and New Testament) and that these accounts are accurate and correct. As a result of this, I aim to follow Him.

I think the most important question isn't what do you believe about Jesus, but given what you do believe about Jesus how does one respond to it.
