Didnt know where to post this one. Gaurds called to the door the other day looking for the previous tenant of our house, they were in plain clothes and were not in a squad car. Just wondering could this be for something minor like a summons or would that have been gaurds in uniform doing that? Was all a bit wierd, i told them that id get the phone number for our landlord for them and they just walked into the house without me inviting them. One of them was an old fella and he had his shirt hanging out of his trousers, not professional at all.

Sounds like you just put hassle on yourself by saying that you would get the number for them. It happened to my friend before gardaí just strolled into his house

well he is most certainly not a member of the travelling community if the gardaí are concerned about him, surely we can extrapolate that much?

Hopefully not, however when you throw mud at other professions, you may expect to get some thrown back at you.

Did you even read the OP he never said anything derogatory about the gardaí

Not permitted to enter plain clothed or not without invite or papers

Had this myself once when I lived in Dublin also in regard to previous tenant - led to strong words, my stepping outside and closing door behind me and calling a solicitor friend of mine - during call the two chaps returned to their car and drove off

Nope, just someone with a bit of standard, who doesn't stand for people critisising others and afraid to take legitimate criticism themselves.

you know the type I refer to,I'm sure;)

Don't worry about Flutt, he's not too bright. Grammar Nazi isn't the worst of it by far with him. I vote we ban him for the shits he's put us through.

    Jeez, that's just not on.

Someone has to call the guy out on that.

No, but if you accuse others of not being professional, you must expect others to highlight your lack of professionalism.

    It's a very simple concept.

Next time, refuse to let them in or give out information without valid ID.
Saw the Real Hustle last night, showed how fake Police and Garda can con people very easily, because people do not ask for I.D.

Probable series of events leading up to knock on the door...

    Garda Bill: "Hey Garda Tomo!"

    Garda Tomo: "Yes, Garda Bill?"

Garda Bill: "Ye know that guy on XXXXXX Road? The one who gives us free beer during those long, hot summer evenings?"

Garda Tomo: "Yes. I do Garda Bill!"

Garda Bill: "I'd love a beer now without showing my ID!"

Garda Tomo: "Me too, Garda Bill!"

Garda Bill: (Thinks for a second) "Let's roll!"
