Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

system requirements, what do you use?

When the forum's were open, there was a lot of discussions about system requirements, and what worked well.

Just thought i would make a thread here to see what everyone runs SC2 on!

    myself:
    xps m1710 laptop
    dual core 2.2ghz 4gb ddr2 ram, 7950gtx.

works perfectly, if all settings are on regular / standard

    desktop:
    core i3 @ 3.4ghz
    4gb ddr3
    hd5770 @ standard

can set almost everything to max. 23" hd screen 1920 x 1080 res.
Runs perfectly, but my temps soar to 75* on the gpu, and 50* on the cpu, so i probably need better cooling there.

my brother plays it on a similiar laptop to mine, and its running just above average.

    very happy with the performance.

So what do you all use?

    i7 920 @ 2.8
    6gb ddr3
    9800 gtx+

Have no problems with everything on max

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,824 ✭✭✭RoyalMarine

id say that i7 packs a right punch.

how does your 9800gtx+ hold up during video play?

i can really hear the fan going into overdrive on mine when there are those user made scene's.

    E6600 @ 2.4 GHz
    2GB DDR2
    512MB 8800GT

No longer cutting edge but it ran the beta without any hiccups, I think it was at 1680x1050 on a 20" Viewsonic.

Its fine I dont notice any fps drop or slowdown etc etc. I was going to invest in a dx11 card but I cant justify it at the moment. The temp of my gpu and cpu are nearly always stable as I have a case with a load of fans :D Once I got used to the noise it was worth it

    Vaio FZ11S

    T7100 (1.8ghz C2D)
    8600M GT
    2GB RAM

Ran the beta fine on low/medium settings, I'll have to invest in a proper desktop soon enough though.

I think I can beat that:

    Athlon 64 3500+ @ 2.2Ghz
    1Gb Ram DDR2
    Geforce 7800 GT

Downloading a 7hour guest pass to see if it will run but looking at 8% complete and 30 hours to finish downloading :/

Well that link says my PC will just about manage it. Just hope I can have the detail levels up to a decent setting. Nothing worse than playing a PC game with N64 textures. I might take you up on the 10 day trial offer but by the time this game actually downloads I'll have enough to buy the thing.

The game said my graphics card isn't supported, it's an ATI Radeon HD 3650, yet, the game works absolutely perfectly on medium settings

    E6600, Ati 4890 1gb, 4gb ram, 64 bit Windows 7. Everything on Ultra @ 1680x1050.

My set up, 2.8ghz quad core Intel, 8gb DDR2 RAM, and a piece o' **** gfx card that's not worth a damn. Frame rate drops like crazy when there's a lot of those custom units or buildings. Gonna order a GTX 260 tonight, only 209 on pixmania, P&P is 16 next day delivery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 85,053 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

most medium settings 1280x720, comfortable smooth play; same settings at 1950x1080 mildly choppy

    AMD Pehnom II X6 2.8ghz
    4GB RAM DDR3 1333
    Integraded HD 4290 on Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3

edit: I'm hearing lots of reports that people are saying they get the "graphics not supported" alert - just ignore it. game runs fine.

SC2 will run on that absolutely fine, you should easilly be getting Medium, even High settings out of that.

For the record even a really bad pc would be able to play this though. Isnt there a way to force the game to render in 2D?

    Settings set to Ultra.

    Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz @ 4.20GHz
    4096MB DDR3 RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB GDDR5

    MBP i5 2.4ghz
    4GB RAM
    Nvidia GT300M

Running it fine on medium settings. Could probably turn some things up I'd say.

    Dell Studio 15

    Intel i5 450m
    4gb ram
    ATI 5460 (I think) 1GB

1280 x 720 res and everything on high, no slow down at all.

Might be able to put things up a bit, dunno, haven't tried.

Is there any chance to run SC2 on Dell Inspiron 11z?
    Intel U4100 1.3GHz
    4GB RAM
    Intel GS45 Integrated Graphics

I obviously didn't buy it for gaming but SC2 is the only game I would like to play. I'd rather not buy a desktop only to play one game. Is there any chance SC2 will be released on PS3 or Xbox?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 593 ✭✭✭Scráib

    Macbook Pro, 2GB 667Mhz DDR2 SDRAM, ATI Radeon X1600 256MB Ram, 100Gb Hard Drive

It defaulted all the settings to low. When i try and up them it gets pretty choppy. At the default settings when there's massive armies on screen it gets choppy too and the 'Please close other applications to improve performance' message appears.

That said, the game runs reasonably well. Well enough to enjoy at any rate. Still, if I could upgrade my RAM I would.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,847 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

The games runs ok on my system on medium setting but the lack of ram is killing it sometimes. Levels take ages to load and there's some stuttering when new stuff is loaded into ram like the videos during gameplay and some of the bigger unit deaths. It's fine though once it's loaded into ram.

i was wondering do i have to buy a mac version of the game,or will any version work in installing it on it on a mac

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Spacedog

    2 X HD5970s in Xfire
    core i7 @ 4 Ghz
    6GB RAM
    2 X SSD in Raid 0
    res 1080p

Runs almost perfectly, the cut scenes and levels load well under 10 seconds. frame rate can drop to noticable but playable levels on rare occasions.

lovin the game, in game cinematics are almost indeciferable from pre-rendered, part because of model/texture quality, but also the work on lip syncing animation, voice acting, scene direction and storytelling matches those of the cut scenes.

No, every copy of the game is both Mac and PC compatible. Blizzard do this for all their games for some reason. I don't know what it is... but I don't mind! :D

Had to stop playing. The chugging and loading from RAM got too much in hte bigger levels and I'm just ruining the game for myself. My friend is getting me a new PC so hopefully I'll be back into soon enough.

ouch that sucks! my brother wants me to price him a laptop / pc that will play it similiar to mine. he's sick of playing it on low settings.

Wouldn't mind if I couldplay it on low settings but the disc swapping that's causing the game to slowdown is making it pretty much unplayable. My own fault for not upgrading :)

No the Integrated graphics wont stand a chance.

    My spec:

    Dell Studio Hybrid 140g
    Core 2 Duo T5750 2.0GHz
    4Gb DDR2
    Intel 965 Express Integrated Graphics

Jerks like a 2 dollar whore with everything on low.

Playable enough to enjoy it? I'm on an almost 4 year old MBP with almost identical specs, and trying to decide if I should get this in a few weeks as my post-thesis treat to myself...

It is yeah, but it's on the lowest possible settings so you lose a lot visually. In every mission I get a popup saying 'Close other applications ot improve performance.

To my mind it's the game -20% of what it could be, but until I upgrade 80% of Starcraft is good enough.

Also, just got my GTX 460 yesterday, have to say, having everything on ultra is purty :) The zerg creep writhes and shivers, it's truly epic, and it's all glossy and slimey looking, frame rate suffered a tiny bit, so have the settings on high now.
